Whey protein with Combat?
Whey protein with Combat?
1/3/13 8:23 AM
I am starting Combat tomorrow and was looking over the nutrition guide. I see that whey protein is not listed under the PROTEIN category. Does anyone know if it is okay if we use whey protein? And if so, what counts as 1 serving? I don't eat a lot of meat and struggle to get enough protein in my diet. Thanks!!

I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't be ok for the Combat program. Most protein drinks are going to have about the same amount of protein as a 3.5 oz serving of chicken breast (about 30 g) so that gives you a good comparison. The protein shake I drink has 28 g per serving. Hope this helps and good luck!

I noticed the absence of a whey protein serving option as well. I have completed P90X and P90X2, and the Combat nutrition guide is different. I think the Combat nutrition guide is more confusing personally. For 1800 calorie diet, the Combat guide has one eating 17 servings of protein! For most food options, it seems that the Combat serving portion is ~1/2 of what those accustomed to the P90X format would eat, i.e. 1/2 banana, 1/2 cup cooked veggies, 1/2 cup potato. I agree with CoachNorthman that using chicken as a comparison is a good idea. In P90X, 1 serving of chicken is 3 oz = 1 serving of whey protein, ~100 calories. In Combat, 1 serving of chicken is only 1 oz. My protein powder is 20 g protein/100 calories. So, I using 1 whey serving as 3 Combat proteins, 1/3 X 3. Despite the nutrition differences, I am loving my first week of Combat!
