I am on the first week of month 2 of INsanity. My knees are aching and preventing me from doing most exercises involving doing the plank. It was much worse during the first month, but is still bothering me. Anyone else have this problem? Am I doind something wrong? Thanks.

No your not alone it will take a while for your body to adjust. I am on month 2 and i still feel like i got hit by a truck when i wake up lol. I have bad knees and i find some of the workouts tough especially involving the jumping. I try to do alternate exercises when ones that are hard on the knees comes up.

I also experienced extra knee pain during the second month of Insanity. What helped me was to really focus on form. I found that with the intensity, it was easy to engage in poor form, so I always had to make sure those knees were behind my toes during all those squats and lunges. I also had be mindful about landing softly during the many jumping exercises. After the workout, I would take extra time to stretch my knees out (I used a foam roller),and if they still felt bad, I would ice them or put tiger balm on them. All that combined really minimized the pain for me. If it doesn't help, I would agree with Legions and recommend modifying the moves that seem to hurt your knees the most. Good luck!!!

Hi guys!

Sorry to hear that you're knees are bothering you. One thing that you might want to investigate are your shoes. I know a lot of people use/recommend cross trainers for Insanity, but one thing that you do want to make sure is that you have shoes that have the appropriate amount of arch support for your feet. If you have arches that fall/collapse inward (overpronate), and don't wear supportive shoes--you can get knee problems/injuries, plantar fasciitis, achilles pain etc.

I have posted a write up, video and pdf article on my thread if you want to take a look at it. It explains all of this stuff in more detail. Click here to check it out.

Also, if your knees are really sore, you might want to consider taking a day off or doing some cross training to give them a break. There is nothing worse than hurting yourself so it puts you out of the game. Also, practice the RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

Best of luck, and feel free to contact me if you have any specific questions about this stuff. emoticon

YES! Two things, well maybe more. How old/cushioned are your shoes AND are you going slow enough to maintain form? What kind of surface are you working out on? I workout on a tile floor. I ended up buying some foam squares to jump on and that's helped too. Good luck!

The same thing is happening to me. I think it has something to do with the shoes I workout in and the fact that I am doing the workout in my garage. The cement floor could is terrible on the knees. I've been doing research on the subject, and those two things could be a factor.

I would suggest some sort of plyo-mat. Like the gold's gym ones they sell at wal-mart. They are cheap, but keep your knees safer than the cement. I put a bunch down in a big square, and then a big peice of carpet over them to keep everything from sliding around. It's still a sturdy surface, but keeps my knees from getting killed emoticon hope this helps. I have an insanity thread if you want to join. Let me know if you get the mats and if they help !

Hmmm, lots of talk about shoes, mats, floors, cement, etc., but nothing about the actually "joint aches." The fact is that dependent upon age and lifestyle, the padding between bones, knees/elbows, wears down. The body rejuvenation industry has not caught up. If I could easily put a coffee coaster between my major bones at the knees/elbows I'd have done it already. Football is fun for boys, but hard on men when we hit "x" age! For girls, well, you have your own "young girl" demons. Good luck and remember, pain is your body telling you something is wrong; however, to accomplish body health and body transformation, pain is at times a necessary agent. Therefore give your mind a good slap in the face and be prepared for some sweat and pain! Oh, and I guess buy some new shoes, a mat, a towel and work out in the grass! The Nation...
