Just finished day 1 p90x advice would be great
So i did phase 1 of p90x four years ago before I lost the dvds and didnt have too hard of a time with it (back when I was in high school and good shape) after 4 years of lack of exercise and partying I am trying to get back to that fitness level. I just finished day one and struggled but was able to finish chest and back. My question is I couldnt make it all the way through Ab Ripper X. My legs were killing me and also my back. Also I was worried if I went to hard on it I wouldnt be able to get through to plyos tomorrow. Just seeing if anyone has had a similar problem.

Thanks!

Tim

My first time through I had a very similar issue, I was so spent from the chest and back workout I was not able to finish the ARX workout it is not uncommon, as a matter of fact in my opinion the first two days are the hardest of the program. The only thing I would say is to give it another shot on Wednesday after shoulders and arms and concentrate on the form in ARX. You may have been experiencing the leg and back pain due to bad from while trying to get to the end of the workout. Doing one rep with good form is better than 10 with bad that could lead to injury. Congrats on starting the program up again!

Hi Tim,

Congrats on re-engaging on your fitness with P90X. Great job getting through chest & back. It is pretty common for people to not be able to get through ab ripperx. I would concentrate on your form and then work to increase reps. When I started I even stopped the dvd to make sure I did the form correctly. If something is painful is is always best to break, reassess and not push it. I think as your improve your back will start feeling better. If you continue to have back issues, definitely discuss with your doctor.

What sports did you play in HS?

Thanks for the advise everyone. I will slow it down and concentrate more on form. I played hockey, football, and lacrosse in high school so I was pretty active. I figure once i get through the first week I will be golden!

Oh and one last quick thing. Is it okay to do some extra cardio...as in just walking laps at the gym or jogging. I need to get my body back by spring break in 120 days. I would like to lose 20 pounds. I am starting to eat extremely healthy and i really want to sculp it. I feel like if I can do this it will give me the motivation to do everything else I want to do in life!

I don't see why that would be a problem just be careful not to over train or under eat, those could lead to negative effects and cause you to stop losing. Keep up the good work you sound like you really are dedicated!

The first week of P90X is tough... Especially after a break. I finished my first round in August and started my second round this week. Day 3 I could barely move. Today is much better after the yoga. Keep at it and things will get better. I would say it's OK to do some moderate exercise, but make sure you don't cut your calories too much... your body will go into starvation mode & you will lose muscle instead of fat.
