Can I substitute the yoga workout with the cardio?

You can, but to get the best results, you should do the program as its intended. I hated yoga (still do), but its a different way of working your muscles. Most of us hate it because its rather hard to do, but once you complete the 90 minutes of it, you should be dripping with sweat.

Don't skip it, just push through it. If you really want it bad, don't modify or skimp on your nutrition... what doesn't challenge us, doesn't change us.

Totally agree with the above answer! I hated the yoga while doing P90X. I skipped it a bunch like a lazy bum at first. Then i started to realize that i wasnt getting anymore flexible and i could use more work on my balance. I finally gave it a whole hearted shot and havent looked back. It helps your flexibility and prevents you from getting injured during your workouts and in real life situations. Most dont like it because its hard and takes you out of your comfort zone. It is definitely needed and shouldnt be skipped! Give it another shot and give it a full all out shot. It eventually grows on you!

Tony has a "fountain of youth" yoga DVD that's only about 45 minutes and it doesn't include balance postures. You might want to consider trying that out. I truly believe that Yoga is a critical part of the program.

So many posts on hating the Yoga!lol
It is hard, it is long and it will test you
but keep showing up and you will begin to appreciate it.
By far the best overall workout in the program.
Try the P90X2 Yoga. It's a little shorter thne P90X
and I think a little less difficult then the original, but
there is a good debate about that ;)
Another option I heard is to run the dvdat 1.5 speed until
you can master it.
Modify what ever you have to but don't give up or
sub this workout, it works everything and it
is really a good balance to all the jumping & pounding
with hte res of the program.
Keep going!!

from my blog:

Man, we hate being uncomfortable, we Americans. We have big comfy lazy boy chairs, comfort food, and we HATE doing anything that makes us uncomfortable. Well one of my clients in my P90X workout group said something today that really triggered me:

“Week 6 is feeling great…really found my comfort zone. (and by that I mean I am comfortable being uncomfortable.) It’s weird the emotions that are brought up as you subtract vices from your life. I’ve learned to just be uncomfortable. Being happy or comfortable all of the time, 24/7 is a very American notion that is simply unreal. That’s why it’s damn easy to be a fat, addicted American. But now, I am feeling a weird freedom from all of that desire.”

It’s completely true. That’s why the majority of Americans hate yoga. When someone decides to start P90X, they say they love all the workouts… except… well… for the yoga. They say it’s long. It’s hard. It’s boring. As Tony says in the Fountain of Youth video, Americans are extremely impatient, and don’t enjoy holding difficult postures for long periods of time because they get uncomfortable. It’s been so beaten into our collective psyche that comfort is everything. But you know what? That couldn’t be further from the truth!

How do we grow as human beings? We have to be willing to step out of our comfort zone. Try new foods, visit new places, and yes – be willing to try new ways of approaching our daily lives, so that by the time we hit 80 – we’re still going strong! Can you imagine a life where you never tried something that scared you? Or something that you weren’t quite sure if you were going to like? I’d have missed out on so many amazing things, if I had let my comfort zone be the be-all-end-all of my life. As a kid I was an incredibly shy person. Now I’m an actor. That’s not to say I’ve completely conquered that demon. I’d still rather e-mail someone I don’t know then call them on the phone – but the fact that I realize it, and am working to overcome it – that’s all you have to do!

Getting back to my client’s quote, she said she has learned “just to be uncomfortable”. But here’s the little secret – that level of discomfort? It goes away. If you’re willing to accept the discomfort and keep going – keep working through it – eventually it frees your body and mind – and leads to a better quality of life. This is something we can use in all our daily pursuits, not just fitness, but when you’re faced with that choice mid-set, of whether to give up on that last push-up, or grit your teeth and give it hell, just know that if you do it – if you don’t quit on yourself – you will be a better version of yourself for having done it. And do your damn yoga!

One tip I found that helps me get through Yoga is to not play the music on the DVD and play music from my IPod. I'm sure Yoga wasn't meant to be done to bands like Van Halen, Disturbed, Motley Crue, Metalica, etc. but it helps me get through the workout and makes the 90 minutes seems to go by faster.

If you're considering P90X2, I would say get that and sub out the yoga from that one. It's about 65 minutes and moves a lot faster.

I truly hate the yoga in P90X... that said this round I am making myself do it as I have learnt that it is a necessary evil....

Yoga is a good idea, but P90x's yoga is for the birds. It's too advanced and way too long. There are many yoga videos out in the market - you can absolutely substitute P90's for a different one.
