I started Insanity last march of 2012 at 16 years old, im 17 now and im about to start my 3rd time doing this. I guess being my age and all buying the right foods and eating the right amounts was tough because no one in my family was going along with it I still lost a lot of weight doing it the first two times but i didn't eat that much doing them so it was bad. but now im taking weightlifting in school and i want to bulk up with insanity and i was wondering if anyone could have any advice for me when it comes to bulking because trying this alone with the right foods is hard because frankly i don't know what to do, i have read lots and lots of reports and all but for some reason it wont sink into my brain on what i need.

Christian,
If you send me your weight and height, I can help you figure out what calories you need and what nutrients you should be eating. Since you are still growing, you will need extra calories and will not want to have an extremely restricted diet.
I will go add you as a friend and you can send me your information if you like.

Hello Christian, Trying to bulk up with Insanity is pretty much near impossible. This program is mostly High Intensity Interval workout that are designed to burn fat and get ripped.

The exercices in those workout wont stimulate enough your muscle fiber to activate muscle grow.

You need resistance training in order to gain muscle, like programs P90X or Body Beast. You will need to be in calorie surplus for your body to add muscle mass. If you know your body fat % and weight i could tell you how much calorie you need to take to bulk up. But you would need to switch with another program to help you gain muscle mass.

Hey sorry it took so long i was busy and really couldn't figure out what to say haha. but im 6ft 5in and 17 years old I weigh about 175lbs and I don't know my body fat% sorry but I've done a lot of thinking and talking and I've realized that cardio is what changed my life not weightlifting you know. I bought Insanity at 16 years old and I've done it twice and i got good results mostly weight lost but no show and i believe that was because i didn't eat that much, I haven't done Insanity since august before school started but I just started today and i really want to achieve this time and give it my all but i have a couple questions, i need 3,500 calories to maintain my weight for insanity but i can't eat 5 times a day because im in school and my family isnt on the healthy train like ive been trying. I don't mean to engulf you with all this information. i just don't really understand a lot of it.

Hello Christian, i just did a quick calculation and you calorie intake to maintain weight is 3100 calories. If you still want to lose weight you would aim for about 2500 calories.

Usually what i tell my customer is to stay low on calories until they are close to they body fat target before upping their calories to gain muscle mass. I think you are on the right road to success by dropping the weight with insanity and if you want to add weight later on you can always do so.

You can bring snack at school that you can eat between class? If you can bring a ice pack you could take greek yogourt, fruits or vegetable like small carrot, nuts, etc...

I understand what you means about your family chosing the food. Maybe you could go with them at the grocery store and ask to buy some healthy food for you. I know i this is, you will get negative comments from your family and friends about you eating right, but don't let other decide for you and stay strong, eventually they might change their bah eating habit and follow you.

Christian, great for you for taking charge of your health and fitness at such a young age. I agree with the others that Insanity isn't the right program if you want to put on some muscle. You need to do exercise involving resistance work (bands, barbells, etc) and you need to eat more than you are currently. I'd recommend that you look at P90X or even Bodybeast.
