Just started slim in 6 on 1/3/13 with old DVDs from 2006 looking for a budd

Hi, I've had these DVDs for so long now. I'm 44 and mother of 3 kids (12,9,4), and 5'9" and 200lbs. I want to lose about 60lbs eventually. I don't exercise at all, and watch TV alot(I'll never stop that). My weight and sedintary lifestyle have made me tired all the time, so I have to do something about it soon. I started the DVDs on Thursday, and the first day I was very sore. I did the limber one right after hoping it would help. The second day I decided to do the limber first since I was so sore. The third day I was still sore but better, so I just did the regular video. Also, it was Saturday and getting the kids to leave me alone for a half hour was as much as I could do. And even during that 2 of them came in to see me, and I had to yell at them to leave. I feel too self-conscience at this point with anyone seeing me doing the exercises. Sunday I actually never got to do it with the kids around, but I plan on doing it all this week without a break. Saturday we will see again how things go. Weekends are going to be my problem.

So, anyone out there want to work out with me and keep me going? I have a feeling I may be doing the Start it up for awhile, so you have time to catch up if you are just starting today or tomorrow.

Thanks,
Michelle

I have never done the Slim in 6 Series DVDs but I wanted to take a minute to say congrats on deciding to start. I know what it is like to have a lofty weight loss goal. I had 100 lbs to lose when I decided to get fit, I have lost 125 lbs since starting and 16 inches off my waist so just know that no matter how hard things may get it can be done. Just by doing the workouts, you are doing more than 85% of the country and that alone is something to be proud of. Enjoy the journey, don't worry about impressing anyone, and remember the only person you are competing against is the voice in your head telling you that you can't do it.

Thanks for the encouragement. Congrats on losing that much. I'm sure that was a long and difficult journey.

I'm hoping to find someone here that is starting the same program as me so we can compare notes. But thanks for the buddy request anyway.

Hi Michelle,

I just started on 1/7 and would love an exercise bud! My reasons for doing it are that I just had a baby on 10/19/12 and contrary to what everyone says, the weight does not just fall off emoticon I have about 15 lbs to lose, but more importantly, I need to tone everything. My pregnancy was hard towards the end and I was either in the hospital or at home, but either way was lying on my back prohibited from even walking very much. So as you can imagine, my body has become soft and lazy. I had been fairly active throughout my life, and I long for the way I used to feel when I was toned and had tons of energy.

I did a round of slim in 6 back in 2005 and I also have the old DVDs! Did they update them and if so what are we missing?

Have a great workout today!

Hi, I know how baby weight is. I think I've gone up some with each kid. 3 kids=60lbs(20each). Now I'm done and need to get it all off. At least you used to be active. I don't think I ever was. I was just naturally skinny until about age 30.

I don't know what's different in the new DVDs, but I read people talking about new ones. I think the originals should still work fine and I'm not buying more.

So far I worked out 6 days now with 1 day off in the middle(not the normal schedule, but I couldn't find time that day). I plan to do it till Friday, and then find at least one time this weekend to do it (maybe sat night/sun morning). I haven't lost any weight yet, strangely. I'm not dieting, but I'm not eating alot either, like junk food. Maybe muscle weight, but I don't know if that kicks in till later. Like am I actually getting more muscles already? But I do feel like my stomach is a little stronger, and I'm standing up straighter. I also seemed to have more energy on Sunday, only 3 days into it. This could have been just hormones though, since I'm not sure if I'm still energetic.

How is yours going?

How does this buddy thing work? Is there a place to message each other not in this post?

Hi ladies,
I was wondering if I could join you too. I just did my first slim in 6 workout today. I am a mom of two (7 and 5) and I would like to lose 15 - 20 pounds and get more tone. Weekend are going to be hard for me too because I don't want anyone to see me workout, kids included.

I think that I might be on the start it up for a while, since the warm-up already had me sweating today. But I made it through so now I just have to keep at it right?

Good luck reaching your goals,
Jessica

Hey Jessica, I'm with you. I've been doing start it up for a week now, and I don't see ramp it up coming any time soon. Also, don't want anyone(incl. kids) to see me either. I'm at least doing all the reps for the legs at this point, as opposed to the last week, when I couldn't. But my arms are still too weak to do all the reps. Sadly, I'm starting to get tired of doing this. Who are these people that enjoy exercising? This is work. I do it but I don't want to. I know it is good for me. I keep thinking I can play more with the kids if I have more energy. My knees are making crackling noises when I bend them during the workouts. I'm wondering if I should ask the doctor about that. I figured they just need to get some muscle in them first(since I have absolutely none).

Anyway, I can be your buddy through this. Starting is the first step. Good for you.

Michelle,

I finished my last workout of the 1st week last night, and it was a struggle to get started. Baby was crying inconsolably for hours and I didn't think I was going to be able to get it done! But I am determined to lose this weight, so I started at 10:45pm. I'm glad I did, because I felt better after I started it.

I'm no expert on physiology, but I do think muscle builds as soon as the tissue recovers. Like during a workout the tiny microfibers break down or are "injured", and once the body heals the fibers, the muscle gets bigger and stronger. It takes about 2 weeks for the body to adjust to the new activity, so I wouldn't think you would see much weight loss at first.

Did you do SI6 back when you first bought the tapes? I did a round in 2005 and it was amazing how my body transformed. I think that's what is motivating me this time around because it was so dramatic. I also closely monitored my calories last time, and that helped. I am not able to do that this time, because nursing makes me so hungry and frankly I just don't have the time. I try to eat good stuff and that will have to do for now.

I have no idea about messaging outside of this post. I sent a buddy request a few days ago. Does it say anything in it about PMs?

Hi Jessica,

Welcome to the group! It's nice to be here with other moms. I think it's a totally different animal to try and workout with kids around. Now I not only struggle with my waning motivation, but it's a time issue as well.

I hear ya on the SIU making you sweat. It's exactly what I need right now; I'm not ready to move up just yet. I finished my first week of workouts yesterday, and I think I'll do another week of SIU before moving up. It's more about getting into the habit of moving everyday and slowly getting some strength back.

How are your workouts going?

I started Slim in 6 one week ago, and I have to tell you I am on Ramp It Up and it is truly beating me up. So what I had decided to do was alternate between Start it up and Ramp It Up. Ramp It Up every day like the schedule says for me to do now, I just can't at this point. So I am finding it easier to alternate between the 2 for a while, and not seeing myself ending this program in the 6 week period. This could be because of my back as well playing a major role. I had back surgery in 2003 and am still dealing with some issues with my back and muscles not wanting to cooperate with me. So if I have to, I modify as well. But I truly feel that I will be alternating the 2 for a couple of more weeks before moving on.

Hi all,
I'm sorry, I think I'm going to do some different exercises first. My knees are starting to hurt from these videos. I looked up the crackling thing in my knee, and it seems it is due to my weight(of course), and the fact that my thigh muscles are very very weak, which I really already knew. One time about a year or 2 ago, I had pain my knee so bad I could barely walk. I went to therapy and they told me my thighs were too weak. I'm going to start with doing leg lifts while laying down to work up my muscles first before doing SI6 again. Good luck to you all. I'll come back when I'm ready to start again.
Thanks,
Michelle

Michelle,
Sorry to hear that about your knees. Being a former nurse, I always advise others to listen to their bodies. Do you have a coach Michelle? If you need extra support and guidance I will be more than happy to help you and anyone else that would like the extra support and motivation. Feel free to join me. Maybe you can take a look at Body Gospel or Tai Cheng. They are both low impact. I think for you to ease back into workouts Tai Cheng would be a great start for you. Take care of yourself and please keep us posted.

Michelle,

I'm sorry you're in pain, and I think you're doing the right thing. All of these lunges and pliés are really hard on the knees.

If you are looking for things to do, swimming is great and very easy on the joints. Or walking.

Good luck!

Tonight I played soccer (indoor) for about 40 minutes. It's rough when you're as out of shape as I am, but you gotta start somewhere!

I'm starting to feel better physically, though. My legs didn't feel as tired tonight as they have in the past 3 weeks playing soccer, and I attribute that to SI6 getting them stronger each day.

Tomorrow is week 2 of Start it up, Jess I hope you're still with me here!

Michelle and Everyhone,

Please just do keep us posted on your health. You know what your body is capable of, and all of us need to listen to our own bodies and not push and avoid any further injury. We will be here for you Michelle. If you would like to talk at any time, just direct message me if you would like at any time.

If any of you need the extra support and some added motivation I would be more than happy to help out where I can.

Take care and god bless,
Darlene

Darlene,

I'd like the extra support and motivation! I think this group has dwindled to just me and you, but I'm still committed to seeing this through if you are.

I've completed my Monday and Tuesday workouts, but today has been hard. Baby slept poorly and I've been a zombie all day. I just got him I sleep now (fingers crossed he stays that way!) and I'm still going to try and get my workout in, even if I start at 10 or 11pm. Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of working out whenever like I used to before the babe, so I'm just going to have to do it when I can!

How is your second week going?

Hi Michelle,
I'm starting Slim in 6 on Sunday 1/20/2013. If you're still on Start It Up this Sunday maybe we can be workout buddies.

Sheri,

I am still here, I've just been busy and I haven't taken time to figure out these message boards. I am still on Start it up, I think that I will be here for a couple more weeks at least. I am making it most of the way through but I still miss a couple of reps here and there. My biggest problem is the sit-ups/ crunches. I know that you are suppose to use your abs, not your chest/neck but I always seem to be pulling with my neck.

Keep up the good work. I know it's hard with the baby. I am usually starting my work out around 9 pm after I get my boys in bed. I would rather do mornings but it seems that my youngest always wakes up early if I am trying to workout before he gets up.

Sheri and Jessica,

I am a coach as well as doing Slim in 6. I have been alternating between the Start it Up and Ramp it Up. I find it is easier for me to alternate because I had tried to follow the schedule but Ramp it Up is too much for me to do day after day. So I will do this until I am comforatable with my back to go beyond Ramp It Up.

I can understand how working out at the sames times is difficult since all of you have young children, and I don't, so it makes it somewhat easier for me to workout in the early morning. Since starting Slim in 6 I am down on my weight, which in itself is great but sometimes this ole' body doesn't want to take on more than it can so this is why I am sticking between the two. I figure it like this, as long as the pounds are still coming off, which is a main goal for me along with getting healthier, then I will stick with what works. That being said, I will be on Slim in 6 until my next program comes via mail, which is Rockin Body with Shaun T. I need to add more cardio for a while and add in strengthening with the bands and weights, so I am aiming for a mixture in the workouts. The main goal is to trick the body and work all aspects, cardio, core strengthening (but with my back I have to be careful)and toning of couse, so this is where I do the bands and weights.

We need to listen to our bodies, and my being a former nurse we are trained above all when it comes to ourselves, listening is the key. We know what we can and can not do.

Not sure if this helps, but that is where I am at now. I won't be finishing the Slim in 6 quite yet. I will be your added support and motivation ladies for the duration of your journeys and thereafter. Buddy me ladies as well if you haven't yet. We will get through this and succeed in increasing our health and becoming fit together.

Do you ladies have coaches? If not you can join Beachbody under my team if you would like. We can add much more to this as a team.
