Insanity.... holy soreness Batman!
1 day of insanity
1/7/13 12:14 PM
So, to be honest, I tried starting this a month ago and made it two weeks (which I totally enjoyed) before catching the flu and being bed ridden for two and a half weeks. Now I'm starting over and I'm a little surprised to see that even after two and a half weeks of not working out AT ALL I still was able to increase some reps during the fit test. SO woo hoo! I see all of these threads with people that are already in pretty good shape and have like 15 lbs to lose... more power to you, but I've got like 80lbs and "in shape" is a bit of a stretch. lol Anyone doing Insanity that is starting from the ground or did start from the ground? It would be a little more encouraging to find someone who was (forgive the terminology) fat and out of shape when they started and did well with it. Anybody out there? lol

Hey there! Glad to see you picked it back up and have been able to maintain or even further your progress after a few weeks off. I myself started Insanity with roughly 80 lbs to lose. I started my first round on 8/6/12 and finished on 10/7/12. During that first round I lost 33 lbs and 22.5 inches. This program works as long as you commit every day and follow the nutrition guide.

I started round 2 on 10/13/12 and made it to week 6 before I had some stuff occur in my family. Needless to say, I stopped and didn't do a damn thing between Thanksgiving and the New Year other than a few select Insanity workouts and in that time, I managed to gain back the 6 lbs I had lost during the first month of round 2. It was a major eye opener as to just how quickly you can slip back into old routines and your old lifestyle if you do not stick with the nutrition plan.

I started what I consider round 2B on Saturday, so today is day 3 and I am just as sore today as I was when I first started round 1. However, I like the feeling of being sore because it meant I gave it my all. I am going hard in 2013 and getting to my goal weight of 165. I am starting round 2B at 220.4 lbs and hope to be between 190-195 when I finish this round in early March. You can do this too, regardless of how big you are starting out. Let me know if you have any questions or need anything... Always glad to help. Dig Deeper!

That's AWESOME!!!! I'm 215 and when I started before I was 225 and I lose some, but after the flu I lost more... Definitely not how I wanted to. It's good to hear that it works for people who have a little ways to go as well as those who are just trying to get in shape. Thank you for your post! Good luck with round 2B! I look forward to seeing how the next few months go. emoticon

I'm with you on that. I could lose a good 60lbs and still not be lean and mean. I probably should get the before photo up, just to prove it.

I started on Sunday. (Yeah I'm offset by one day, but I like that so Saturday can be my rest day)

Holy soreness is a great way to describe it. But the Cardio recovery that I just did today was a godsend. It wasn't easy by any stretch but I wasn't dying at the end either, to top it all off the soreness is not as bad today. (I don't have to work to hide it like I have the last couple of days.)

I did INSANITY as part of my fitness journey when I decided to get fit about 2 years ago, since then I have lost 125 lbs and 16 inches off my waist (check out my profile before and after) I know what it is like to have a whole bunch of weight to lose and as long as you take it one step at a time do the best you can and work to improve on it you will get there. (Take from me, I know). I am happy to help you out and share some things I learned along the way. The biggest thing I can say right now is to find people to support you, I had my wife and between the two of us we have lost almost 200 lbs total. Having that person to lean on really keeps you on track.

Hang in there. Just about everyone has the same story. The first week is AWFUL. Insanity earns its name in spades, but I will also promise it gets better. I'm only on day 11 and I feel so much more energetic, and my wife claims the gut is shrinking. Even my doctor liked the results and said keep it up.

(Though his nurse who does insanity said that the second month will be a real treat. I'm a bit nervous.)

Yeah I look forward to being able to walk in a normal fashion where my whole body is not sore. **fingers crossed** I am excited. I am trying to not focus so much on the number on the scale as just the physical results... time will tell.

Joe

I had read another post somewhere you wrote about crying and cussing at Shaun T. I did Day #2 yesterday and finally understand it. I don't know what it was, but about 75% of the way through I was misty eyed and frazzled wondering how I was going to make it through the Deathh March music (where it slows down) at the pace Shaun wants you at. I thought in my head a few choice words for him, but I like him again today and ready for more torture!!

Shaun T is so nice and yet so mean...he smiles while putting me in pain. Haha!

Thankfully the attractiveness level of the scenery in the videos motivates me through my agony. I want to be a pretty & fit person too!

As you begin, if you need to, stop am exercise a few seconds before everyone to gain a moment of rest. I did that a lot in the first week and a little less during this second week - a little faster pace here and there and few less pauses is my goal each day/each week/each repeat of a dvd.

Dig deeper!

You haven't really cussed him out until you are on all fours cussing between breaths.

Pure cardio shows that he does have a heart. I think it's pure cardio that he walks through the group and says, "You take a break. You take a break. You take a break." Now I don't know if it's the same person or three different people, because my head is down trying to find some way to keep at it.

Hang in there it get's better. I promise. (Or at least you get used to it so you don't notice anymore.)

hey guys.

i just finished day 21 today and feel great. i know exactly what all of you are saying. but after finishing the third week i can almost make it through all the workouts with only taking a couple of 2-3 second pauses. it actually makes me feel better about myself when i see some of the trainers stopping as well lol. week one was awful, week 2 was better but still hard, week 3 was a good turning point. i started at 194 and have only lost a few pounds but my body is changing very dramatically. as the other guy said, im trying to focus on measurements and appearance rather then the numbers on the scale. the only thing sore on me now is my inner calf's down to my ancles. i dont really understand why they are still sore. i am hoping that the first 3 weeks built the muscle i needed to get through the workouts and from here on the weight will come off.

I think we are all sore when we start, but I'm not sure it gets much better! If we continue to push ourselves, it will continue to hurt. But, I think it's a good hurt. It's a reminder that I worked my body hard and it is going through some changes!

Keep pushing play!!

Here's my test to see if it's an injury or just muscle soreness. After you go through the warm up do your calves feel better. If not you may want to see a doctor to be safe. If they do feel better then it is likely growing pains.

When I have calf pain it is usually my achilles tendon. I get on some steps and dangle my heels of them gently, until you can feel the stretch. Hang on to the railings so you don't go too far, or fall backwards. (Try explaining that one to the doctor. "I fell down the stairs stretching. Honest.")

It will probably hurt like crazy at first but when you get off it should feel a little better.

P.S. It does get better. I don't think it get's easier, but it does get better.

it hurts from the time i get up in the morning till i go to sleep at night. i do pretty heavy physical labor at work and have pulled and torn muscles and ligaments. i feels as if ive pulled the muscle (not torn it) after my workout it does seem a bit better but kills throughout it. i am anxious to see my results on and off the scale but i am being patient and waiting for my fit text emoticon
