YogaX suggestions please
YogaX suggestions please

I am doing my first attempt at P90X. I love the workouts so far, except for the yoga. I found that I couldn't stretch enough to do most of the poses and was unable to move between them in any kind of a smooth fashion. Heck, I cannot even touch my toes with most of the workout. I was so frustrated that after 35 minutes I jumped ahead to the balance poses at my wife's suggestion. I couldn't do any of these due to lack of balance. I was so frustrated afterward that I went for a run to cool down. I am willing to try yoga but am not flexible and found this unbearable, again not for the pain but for the fact that I couldn't do any of it. Is there a beginner's version I can get? I don't mind working hard, but I am not nearly flexible enough to do any twisting anything. Help would be appreciated.

Hi Erik

Yoga is the most difficult and "hated" workouts for a lot of people. We all share your frustration in the first weeks of doing it, but , trust me, you keep doing it (just do the best that you can) and you will improve. The flexibility and strength you gain in Yoga will assist you in the other workouts.

Hi Erik,

I must agree with Coach Alberto on this... YogaX is the one routine we all love to hate... I'm also a runner and had a lot of difficulty with the moves. It's hard to believe early in the program but it will get a little easier each time. Even after a completed round of P90X, lots of the moves will still be difficult although you will reap tons of benefits doing the YogaX routine. It will drastically improve your strength and flexibility which in turn benefits all other workouts... including running! I hope you decide to continue to do this routine and remember... you only need to do your best everytime...this doesn't mean keeping up with the people in the DVD... that will come with time. Also remember, if you don't work on your flexibility it most certainly will never improve.

All the best to you and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out. We are all here to help everyone achieve their personal health and fitness goals.

Hello! I agree with the other coaches, I hate yoga! I do it because I know I need to. I have terrible balance and find it very frustrating at times but you just do the best that you can and dont give up! your flexability will improve over time..but only if you stick with it and keep pushing yourself to improve as with anything!

Yeah, like is mentioned above, many people struggle with Yoga X right away. It's definitely not an easy workout. There is a shorter version that I like, called Fountain of Youth Yoga. It's about 45 minutes but would still help you work on your flexibility.
