5'7 and 225 lbs. Should I do Insanity?
Showing 14 results.
Hello All.

I am 23 years old, 5'7" and about 225 pounds. I used to be 227 pounds in high school and then I went down to 165 in a small amount of time but I suffered with over-exercising, laxatives, and purging (vomiting)after meals. I knew that I had to stop that when I turned 20. I stopped all of the habits cold turkey but ever since then I have gained back all the weight and even though I exercise, my metabolism has been messed up making it really difficult to lose weight even though I exercise occasionally. So I am wondering if it would be okay for me to start insanity with the plan of doing at least two rounds. Can I just start the program or should I do a cleanse for 10 days prior so it'll be easier on me because I will have lost some weight by then (Hopefully) Help! Thank you all!

Hi!
You can definitely do Insanity, but you should also eat healthfully while you are doing the program. You need enough fuel to do the program well and lose weight. I have added you as a buddy. If you want, I will send you your recommended calories per day. You should set up a free account on myfitnesspal.com. Once you have done that, we can set in your calories and recommended nutrients.
If you stick with the program and eat well, you will see wonderful results in your body. I know that losing weight is your main goal, but with Insanity you will not only lose weight, but also firm up and tone and develop nice muscles. During the first few weeks of Insanity, you might not lose, and might even go up just a bit as your muscles build up some acid. But that will come off after a few weeks, and you will find that you are trimmer and leaner.
Insanity is a great program! I am just now about to push play emoticon

I started Insanity at 217 lbs when I was 23 years old, so I would say you could definitely go for it!

Myfitnesspal said my calorie intake should be around 1,490. Is that about right? Thanks in advance!

You're going to need to increase your calories to have the fuel to get through the workouts.

To about how much? I want to only take in the calories to be able to get through the workouts. I don't want to have an excess in calories because then I won't lose weight and I am aiming for 1-2 pounds a week.

That's going to depend on your fitness/activity level. For me I'm at about 2500 calories for starters and I'll adjust from there.

If you have any other questions or need support/motivation, I have a thread for Insanity and Asylum. Feel free to join in.

The oil in your car should be changed regularly, the antifreeze flushed every couple of years. Your pipes in the bathroom and kitchen should be clog free, and the windows in your home should open in the spring for fresh air, unless you live near a plant or sewage building. In other words, man's body should be flushed regularly and/or continually, whether a rigorous exercise program is just around the corner or not. Take a 225 photo now and remember...laxatives and vomiting? Yikes, what a secret to keep, which I'm sure tons of people do hoping to the Big Guy that nobody finds out! Good luck friend, the first few days your body will ache for leisure, but your heart and "eyes" will say otherwise. Do not fear and do not give up. You are far to young to "accept" what you have "chosen" in the past. Amaze your friends and amaze yourself with the gift of "choice." The Nation...

Do it! I'm 24, 5'8, 228 pounds I just had a baby and I started insanity at the 2 month mark after He was born.. I'm on day four today and I won't lie, its not easy but you just have to stick with it and stay at your own pace. Only you know how much your body can take so listen to your body... stay focused and you can do anything you want!

-katie

Ps only day four and I've lost 4.5 pounds! :-)
