Combat Day 1 - Yippee!

1/8/13 6:51 AM
So yesterday was day 1 of Combat. I was so excited. Anyone else as excited as I am to do this program. I went shopping this weekend for all the food I would need for the next week and spent yesterday morning doing all my prep for the week so I would not have to worry about food and snacks for work. I'm going to follow the nutrition guide on this one for sure. I know how important it is to actually follow the nutrition plan so I'm definitely going to.

I'm also a part of a really big group on Facebook, we are over 70 strong now so I know the support will be amazing. Gosh knows without support I am usually no good. I know some people are so self motivated but I am not.

So thought I'd just post here and see if anyone was with me on this one.

So I picked up the baby, ran home and changed and did Combat 30. What a fun workout and it really was a good workout too. The 30 minutes just flew by. I'm pretty excited about todays workout.

What about you?

Good luck all!

Jo

Awesome.. Good to see others enjoying it too. I just logged day 23 this morning and I still love it as much as day one.. The is also the one program that, the longer the routines, the more fun it is. So, don't let those 45 and 60 minute names intimidate you or anyone in the group. It's just letting you know that you have 45 or 60 minutes of pure fat burning fun ahead of you.. Hope your Group is active and good luck on the next 59 days!!

Oh good for you, Day 23, nice. Glad to hear you are still enjoying it. That is good news for me.

Yeah, our group is off the hook active, it is great!!

So day 2 Power HIIT and Inner Warrior I believe it was called, fun stuff. Power HIIT reminded me a lot of PUMP so that was cool because I like PUMP. Love the the clean and press. Definitely looking forward to today.

Anyone else out there?

Yeah, I still do Pump routines also.. When I'm feeling froggy or on my off day, I'll do Extreme or Revolution.. If you like that, wait until you get to Upper Body Blow Out.. And, that name is exactly right.. They will blow out your upper.. Great routine, but not easy by any means..
Have a great day..

That sounds fun, kinda! Haha. I like working my upper body so I'm all over that.

Soooo, day 3 yesterday. Did some Combat 30 and Abs. Really digging this workout for sure. I'm following the Ultimate Schedule so doing the hybrid using the extra DVDs which is quite nice. I like getting in some extra stuff like the abs after all the kicking and punching. Not sure what is on the calendar for today but I'm pretty excited about it. I really like this workout program quite a lot. It is really fun and much more my style.

Well, off to do some work. Will check in later.

For you or anyone that's been doing it for awhile, what kinda weights do you use? I ordered it yesterday and have know about it since before it's release. Was hoping to get it for Christmas but didn't. I'm wondering about what size weights you're using for the weighted workouts. I have sets of barbells that I can +/- weights. Do I need to look into getting some SUPER heavy dumbbells or are they all pretty light exercises(5-25lbs)? Also, are they fast change workouts? Meaning if I did 1 exercise with a 10lber and 1 with a 20lber, do I have enough time to +/- weights between workout or should I have a few different sets of dumbbells around?

Right now, becuase I have had some nerve damage in my left arm, I,m very limited onthe weights I can do.. I use 12's, 15's and 20's.. Just so you know what they use, Dan (big muscles) uses a 20-25 in some routines and them he has a 30 he calls on to beast the last bit of a routine or two. And, that is the max he uses in any of the routines. So, as you can see, they don't use massively heavy weights.. Doing uppercuts with super heavy weights could possibly damage your shoulder because of the quick up and back motions. Of course, after awhile, you might move up in wieghts, but what you have is fine. And as for quick change, no. They don't normally switch between weights throuhg out the routine. Most stay with what they have. There are only a couple of routines that even call for weights.. It'll show you in the quide when you get it...

Cool, Thanks for the reply. My wife actually just bought a set of 2.5 and 5lb dumbbells for her brazil butt lift. I'll use those as my lights and use the other weights I have for the heavier sets. Thanks again.

Whew, was away for the weekend so just getting back to the boards here. Did my workouts though. Week 2 off to a good start.

You know, for weights I have been using my Les Mills PUMP barbell, I think it works well. And if I need a free weight I have extra weights that go on the end of the barbell and I just use those. Works great!

So, workouts going great so far. Yesterday was Combat 60 and that was really fun. Can't believe it was an hour long because it went by very fast. Totally fun workout. I'm still a bit uncoordinated with that one since it was the first time I did it but still, very fun.

Hope you are all doing great.

Finished Day 32 this morning.. Still loving this program.. Although, because of not taking a day off for the last couple of weeks, I'm starting to get a little mentally and physically wiped out. Going to actually use my rest day on Sunday to REST..
One thing to note: During all the time, Combat 45 has been my favorite routine. This week, I finally got to do Combat 60 Live. It's awesome!! I don't know it well enough to kill it yet, but it's a very fun routine.. 60 is great, 60 Live is even better. Hope everyone else is doing good.. Stay with it!!

I haven't done the live 60 one yet but hopefully soon. I am still really liking this program a lot. Only week 2 for me but it is so much fun. I did like Combat 60 a lot, it went by so quickly. One thing I am finding is that I am not eating enough. I am going to have to up my intake so I can have enough energy at the end of the day to do my workouts. I am doing them of course but I am tired. I'm a little person, only 5'4" and about 130 or so, so I don't need a lot of calories but I need more than I am having. I may just take some E&E.

How are you guys doing?

Just finished Combat 60 a little while ago! That is a non stop cardio workout for sure. I haven't done live 60 yet either, I think that's next week for me. Sounds like your body is saying feed me..lol

Once I started combat I had to increase my calorie intake.. Funny, because prior to Combat, I was doing an Insanity/Pump hybrid.. I guess Pump just didn't give me the kcal burn I needed. Nice upper body stuff, but it sure isn't cardio. Not compared to Insanity or Combat.. Day 34 for me today.. I've actually started looking down the road and I'm working on a Combat/Pump hybrid calendar.. Not sure how it's going to look right now.. Just in the pre-planning stages.. It was much easier making my Pump/Insanity calendar..
Everyone have a great weekend!!

Hybrids are tough aren't they? Poor planning on my part today, I somehow have to get in Combat PlyO and P90X Legs/back, what was I thinking when I laid this one out..lol
I had increased my calories before I started knowing I was going to need it. Also knowing adjustments can always be made. So far so good, just today I'd say I notice my first sign of change other than dropping a couple of pounds.
I am always looking down the road, how did you like the Pump workout. Did you think about trying Body Beast? Wonder how that would be.
Enjoy the weekend

Hello!!

How was your weekend? Pretty good here on my end. Did Upper Body for the first time, wow, great workout there. Really loving this program. Funny you mention a Combat/Pump hybrid Dale because that is exactly what I'm planning on doing next. How is your schedule working out, you still planning it out? I'd love to check it out if you feel like sharing.

fhstillfit, hybrids aren't hard I don't think. I think they just provide a nice variety after you have done a full program. Pump is a really great workout, I enjoyed it. I like the lower weight high rep workout. If you want to bulk up though then you will definitely want to check out Body Beast. I can show you some great success stories from it if you want. I know some guys who just had amazing results. It really depends on your goals. What are they?

Well, still have some work to do today before my workout but then I'm all for it!

Loving Combat!!

Hi there,

Good weekend just went byeemoticon

Only thing I find hard about the Hybrid is the schedule so you don't over train. How you combine the two programs is important. I have days that I have two workouts in one day each an hour long! Tried to stay away from that but there are those days it just happens. Now those days I find hard to say the least!

My goals...the days of wanting to be the biggest boy in the gym are wayyyyyy behind me. So my goal this summer is ripped. P90X gave me a great look but now I want hard core abs! It so fun to push your body and try different things.

Well punch and kick time for me.

Train hard!!

Great weekend.. I had to skip Saturday's workout.. My wife ran her first marathon on Saturday, so I had daughters duty until later in the day.. I used Sunday as my rest day and then I killed it yesterday since I was off work.. I did Combat 30 Live (because I hadn't done it yet and wanted to check it out) and then followed it up directly with Combat 45. That was an awesome workout..
I didn't get to work on the schedule yet all that much.. The thing I'm not going to do on this hybrid is, work my way up to the intense ones.. Since I've already graduated both programs, I'll use only the high intensity routines and then I'll throw a lower (not the lowest) routine in the mix to act like an Insanity Core Cardio and Balance type day every couple of weeks. But, there is only one rest day and most of the routines are going to be what you find in Month 3 of Pump and Month 2 of Combat.. But, I'm thinking 4 days of Combat, 2 of Pump. That's my first thought on it now..
My original hybrid I made was Pump/Insanity. I followed the Pump schedule and then on the walk/flow days, I inserted Insanity routines. Month 1 for the first 6 weeks and then Month 2 for the rest of the time. I needed to make some changes, but it was ok for a first try.

Sounds like things are going well for you both. Yeah, definitely don't want to over train but I think with the hybrid you won't necessarily have to if the schedule is done right. Maybe Dale will make us a good schedule, heh? emoticon

I'm on week three of Combat, did Combat 60 yesterday, really like that one. Gives you a bit of everything and it really flies by. Sometimes it goes a bit slowly, the actual moves, so I tend to speed up a bit, but I do like that workout a lot. I think today is a HIIT day, Power I think. Those always remind me of Insanity, which is good, I like Insanity.

Well you guys have a great day. Chat with you soon.
