am I cheating?
1/8/13 11:04 AM
Ok i have a question. Just completed plyometric cardio circuit of Insanity at start of week 3. When it gets to level 1 drills where Shaun T goes "down and back and 4 press ups and run it out and in and up" etc I am really struggling with the in and up (still quite a big lad). therfore i just stay down and omit the jump but just do the press ups and run outs.
It just feels like I am cheating a bit. I can get up and then back down but just cant keep up and dont feel as if i would get as much out of it compared to what i do. Any thoughts?

That's not cheating! remember shaun t. he has been training for years, and everyone is different. As long as you keep working out and eating healthy that's all that matters!!!! you know your body and you know how far it can go!!!
But don't be lazy push as hard as you can!!!emoticonD

I personally don't think you are cheating. I think you are doing what you can which is what Shaun T says quite a lot in Month 2 videos. As long as you give it your all and do the best you can then you are doing it! Maybe a bit later after you do the videos more and increase your overall strength you can try again to do the complete Level 1 drills.

Hey John,

The insanity workouts are really tough, ive only done the fit test and i struggled through the whole thing. Your not meant to be able to go through the whole thing right away, making progress and getting results is what these programs are for. So you staying down and holding the position is still improving yourself, its so much better than just standing there while the dvd rolls on. The people on the dvd have been doing those workouts for a LONG time so its not the end of the world if you cant keep up, for instance; today was week 3 of P90X for me and i had Plyo. Last week i couldnt keep up with the workouts but this week i was able to do so much more because i tried some of the more difficult moves last week and improved. Thats what you need to do; try the full move once in a while or keep doing what your doing until you feel ready to try one. Your not cheating, your doing your best which is always enough =D

No thats not cheating!!! You are doing what you can. For me personal I would do as many as I could his way & stay down for the rest.....the more I did like that the better I got & you will get more out of it by staying engaged you don't even have to wait for him to go up & down. You could continue your push ups & run it out & the start again till the drill is over. But before you know it you'll be right there with them emoticon
I was so proud the day I did the whole drill with them.....I have full confidence you will smash that drill in no time. Keep pushing play!

If you have any question or need more support I have a thread :support thread emoticon]

We would love to motivate you & get to know you along your fitness journey emoticon

No that's not cheating Shawn T and the others are machines lol.

I have bad knees so some of the exercises i have to modify especially the squats and some of the jumps. As long as your getting a full workout and putting in an effort thats not cheating.;

good thanks - stiff after plyometric yestrday but had good pure cardio with only two small breaks so really pleased. Cardio abs wasnt fun though. lowered back a bit in c position and really felt the abs working (back still ached a bit though so had to stop a few times - had really back car crash about 25 years ago and small of back muscles have been weak for years - hoping this will help to strengthen them). Onward ho as they say!

It's sure good to hear your pushing through....Things will get better & then it wont hurt so much. I am total proof of that. I have been I 2 car crashes & was very week to begin with but the more you workout the stronger your back with become....Just make sure you pay good attention to form so you are not harming it more than building the muscle.

WAY to Go JOHN!!!

Carlie

TEAM ENGAGE!

I want to tell everyone on this thread that this is one of the more inspiring threads. As a really pudgy guy myself, it's nice to see someone else that can't so it all. And then the response to it all.

Probably one of my favorite attributes of Insanity is that you are given permission to take a break when you need. I know that every instructor says it, but it's so much harder to take a break and feel okay about when no one on the screen does it. When I'm wheezing and ready to die to either hear ShaunT "Take a break" to someone in studio or look up and see someone laying on the ground taking a break gives me permission to take that break or whatever. Sure I know that I've probably not even done half of what they did, but still it's an implicit permission.

Just keep at it man!

Don't ever think you are cheating, as long as you are giving your all and doing your best you're not cheating. As in the videos Shaun T always says you don't have to go as fast as him or do as much as they do on the video as long as you keep at it and put your all that's all that they are asking. If you watch those on the video they constantly take breaks as well throughout the workout, so never feel bad for taking breaks. But just remember push yourself to your limits each time, that way you will increase your strength and stamina as you go along. You don't want to settle into a comfort zone where you can't increase your strength and stamina. Just continue to push yourself and increase your results as you go along!

You are doing a great job! Modifying a move is not cheating. Since this move gives you difficult, I would recommend spending time practicing it. Three times a week, try to add it onto the end of your workout...or at a separate time of the day if you need more energy! Keep practicing and over time, try to add a few reps in. Then the next time, add a few more reps in. Modifying moves to your fit level is perfectly fine. Just don't get stuck with where you are. Keep pushing yourself and the moves will come!
