HELP!
HELP!
1/9/13 7:03 AM
Im not sure if this is the place to come with my questions, but Im not sure where else to go. I am doing the Insanity program and I completed my 2nd day yesterday. I am in lots of pain this morning and in fear of injury. Should I continue on with day 3? Or should I continue today with maybe some walking or yoga to relax my muscles. I dont want to get unmotivated so Im seeking help. Please respond as soon as possible.

Hi there,

First off, sorry to hear that you're not feeling so hot! However, this is probably a good time to ask a few questions. Have you done any other workouts/programs before or is this your first? Also, what kind of pain exactly? Is it really sore muscles? Joint pain? Nerve pain? The type of pain will make a big difference, as well as where it's located (back, knees, ankles, wrists, etc). Can you give a bit more detail?

Insanity is a really demanding program and if you haven't done somethings similar before, it's highly possible your body is just reacting to the new challenge/stress. Especially if you're just really really sore. It's also possible that you maybe need to work on form and/or your footwear (again, depends on the exact type and location of pain.. ). If you're really worried, though, it's probably best to talk to your doctor.

In high school (I graduatede in June of 2012) I was a full time athlete for 3 years. Not quite as demanding as Insanity, but pretty close. So i have endured tough exercise before. However, this is the first time I've done cardio for about 2 years.
I have pain in the back of my knees, like a tight muscle feeling. It may be because of all the jumping and bending in Insanity.
However, I am afraid that if I start my worjout today I may not be able to finish then become discouraged.
Thanks for responding to my post so quickly! Hopefully you can help.

Hi!

I experienced the same thing on my second day of Insanity. I woke up in the morning and felt like there was no way I was getting out of bed, let alone putting on a pair of heels and heading to work!

I seriously contemplated whether or not to skip my workout for that day, but I had the same hesitation about losing my motivation. I decided I would do the workout but do it at about half pace and make sure that I wasn't going full intensity; at least not unless I felt like my body could handle it. About halfway through, I felt warmed up and like I was able to up my intensity a little bit and to be honest, I felt awesome afterwards just knowing that I pushed my way through.

Everyone's body is different, though, so make sure you don't go out of your comfort level when it comes to soreness.

Hi Skinnykaykrisss,

Doro makes some very good points here--and she's right--it all depends on the type of pain. Knee pain can result from a number of causes, and knee injuries can take a while to heal--so be sure to get this figured out before you push too hard. I have a post that talks about proper footwear (as this might be the problem) on my Insanity thread. It's on the first page and there is a brief write up to read, plus a video and pdf article. Click here to view the thread.

Best of luck!!

When the body aches from injury the body should be rested. When the body's muscles ache from exercise, because the exercise is new, forge on. Treat yourself and body to a warm water for soothing and rejuvenation. Your spirit will appreciate the gesture. The Nation...

Addendum: The soreness will lessen, but for me, it's never completely gone. The aches I still feel in my muscles let me know I'm still working hard. The aches I feel in my joints, well, that's another story. I am a bit older now, but new mountains are still on the horizon. Good luck!

I purchased Reebok Zigtechs before my workout began today and the pain was relieved! My legs feel much more supported. However, I think I may need to buy inserts to further support my arch and foot. Thanks so much for the advice! You kept me motivated today emoticon
