Program Progression?
Program Progression?
1/9/13 10:16 AM
A few years ago, I tried the P90X program and I was definitely not ready for it. I pushed way beyond what my body was capable of and had to put the program on the shelf while muscles recovered.

This year, I got the Power 90 program which, so far, is a good match to what I can do. I was wondering if there is a progression of fitness programs somewhere.

From what I've read, it might look something like this:

Power 90 -> Power 90 Master Series -> P90X

Is there anything in between P90MS and P90X?
What about after P90X?

Where do the other programs, like Insanity, fit into this?

I know there are so many programs that BeachBody offers, I'm just not sure where they fit in. I AM going to finish Power 90 and am trying to figure out what I should go to next, but I also don't want to get anything that is beyond what I can handle.

Any advice is greatly appreciate!

Hey mcrib96,

Did you try to match everything on the video?
If you did, i would highly suggest taking it slow and doing what you can do, Tony shows modifications for almost every move to make it easier.

The entire progression would be a little something like this 10 Minute Trainer > Power 90> Power 90 Master Series > P90X > P90X+/Tony Horton one-on-one's > P90X2

In your case, since your doing okay with power 90 i would say follow that through the whole program, doing what you can do. Modifying is the key to success and reaching your goals. After Power 90, you should be strong enough for P90X. The modifications can make anyone be able to do the workout; Resistance bands pullups, step version in plyometrics, less weights, etc.

The ultimate question before "what do i do next?" is what are your goals? Do you want to lose fat? Insanity can not be beat in that area. Gain muscle? Pretty much all programs can help with that too; Insanity, P90X, P90X2, Body Beast, Power 90; all of them.

And remember, no matter what program you choose to do, NUTRITION is 80%-90% of the program; after all, you are what you eat =)

There is not a defined progression by Beachbody, however some of them can be done progressively.

Power 90 ---P90X ---P90X2
Insanity ---- Assylum.

What program you follow depends of your goals. P90X is the most well-rounded program, including cardio and weight lifting, The other are more cardio oriented.

Thanks, Darrick. When I originally tried P90X, I was in denial about my physical condition. I was not in shape and not ready for the rigorous workout that I attempted.

I like the progression that you've suggested. After I hurt myself, I'm very cautious about pushing myself too hard. As for my goals, I do want to lose a little weight (15~20 lbs) and gain more muscle, but the ultimate goal is daily health and fitness.

The progression through Power 90 to P90X2 would be perfect for you then. One thing i like to remember when im pushing hard is when tony says "it isn't about getting hurt, it's about getting results" Some days will be harder than others, your reps or weight may go down one week but it isnt about the numbers. Its about getting results and as long as your eating right and doing all you can without causing injury, the numbers will come.

20lbs is a great goal and is very attainable with power 90, but don't pay attention to the scale every day like alot of people do. Muscle weighs more than fat and you'll be gaining muscle while losing fat so your weight will fluctuate rapidly from day to day, try to stick with weighing in every week/2 weeks/month.

OK, I'll give it a shot.
I would say POWER 90, POWER 90 MASTERS SERIES, P90X and P90X PLUS and P90X2 is the progression if yer going on a series run.
We are in our last week of INSANITY and we just received POWER 90 and Power 90 MS, we will start those in Febuary. Then we will do Brazilian Butt Lift. After that we are gonna do another round of INSANITY, then possibly CHALENE EXTREME DELUXE EDITION or P90X and X-PLUS.
I think it a good Idea to do different style of programs so the body doesn't fall into a pattern and I beleive that is why you don't see a progresion of programs guide. Its all up to want to train yer body and when.

Hopes this helps.
