Whew, what a work out!
Whew, what a work out!
fitness excited tough crazy 1 day of insanity
1/12/13 10:36 PM
I have just started Insanity, and I've always been thin and played sports but since I graduated high school, in the past two years I've become less active and granted I'm still thin, I am not necessarily "fit" or "healthy". And I want to become fit and feel healthier, so I started the Insanity work out. I thought I was going to throw up! Did anyone else grant themselves more breaks during the first day than they'd wanted? I feel a bit disappointed in myself but am going to continue to work out because I know it will be worth it in the end. Any tips or advice to get through the first week or so of it?

Hello! Congrats on starting Insanity its a great intense program! Dont worry about taking a few breaks at first the more you do it the better you will get. With each day and each week that passes you will have more stamina and real world energy! You will get better and better and begin to surprise yourself. Just work hard and push yourself. Make sure your eating a good clean diet too to fuel your body! If you need anything id be happy to help you out!

The first week is REALLY hard!!!!! If you get through it, you will be amazed in the second week how much stronger and fitter you are! And when you get to the second month, the first week you will feel the same as you do now!!! It's a tough program and not everyone will do it! You can!!! Keep digging! I am on my second time through - third week now. My favorite work out quote? "It never gets easier. You just get stronger!!!!"

It is totally normally to feel like throwing up the first time you try this craziness. It's not called insanity for no reason. It's also ok to take extra breaks. If you look closely at the videos, even those super fit people on the video need extra breaks once in a while. So it's totally OK. I know how it can feel difficult giving yourself extra breaks. But even Shaun T says in the videos to prioritize form over speed, and to go at your own pace. I do wish he would emphasize that a bit more in the month 1 DVDs. He does a better job of letting you know it's OK to go at your own pace during month 2 DVDs.

Don't be discouraged. Just keep at it. And you'll be surprised just how quickly you will improve. When I first started, I couldn't even make it through the first 10 minutes of warm ups. I was done after the first 10 minutes. But now I"m on month 2 material, and the month 1 stuff just feels like a breeze. So you'll definitely get there.

Don't worry, everyone is in your same boat on the first day! If you watch closely, you'll see the people in the workout are taking breaks too, so don't feel bad that you have to. Just take short breaks as needed and hop back in when you're ready, no shame in doing that. You'll improve quickly!

Thanks guys! I really appreciate it! emoticon I'm still continuing it and my muscles are SOREEEE. haha but coming from one of my favorite quotes: Sore muscles are happy pain emoticon I enjoy working out and it always makes me feel better afterwards. I do get frustrated with myself when I give myself an extra couple breaks or don't make it through a complete set without stopping for a second but I do always hop right back in so I suppose I can give myself that credit. My muscles just HURT! lol

It's actually totally OK to take extra breaks, as long as you are doing it for the right reasons. No need to feel guilty or angry. Like the first time through insanity, I was going for no breaks, and just focusing on keeping my heart rate at 90% of max all the way through. So I was just focused on my cardiovascular stamina. But then the second time through, I was focused on form. So I will stop if I can no longer do the exercises with good form. And it's OK.
