Hey everyone,

I just started P90X for my first time and I just had a question for how people work in more protein supplements if they want? I still want to build more muscle while doing P90X so I didn't know exactly how you would go about it. It feels odd to not drink a whey protein shake after working out so I just was looking for any suggestions from anyone who has gone through that same dilemma.

Hello. Congrats on starting P90X! I personally do take a whey protein shake after every workout with some pure creatine in it! I am a believer in it and thats what ive always done. So yes if you feel the need then do take it post workout. I also use whey to make smoothies sometimes! Its a great way to get your protein levels up!

Hi Mcampy! Congrats on starting P90X, you have a great journey ahead of you. I use the P90X results and recovery since it has the 4:1 ratio that your body needs to recover after such a strenoudous workout. I have also added on a protein that I mix in with my shakeology shake in the morning for breakfast. As well their is also a casein protrin you can take right before bed, to help recover your muscles. Here is a bit of info for each.

Whey Protein - You may find that you need to take a supplement like this to reach the necessary protein levels found in P90X's Fat Shredder Phase. Protein use is desirable immediately before and after exercise to help refuel recovering muscles. You can purchase this through TeamBeachbody or get it at any GNC, Wal-Mart, even some supermarkets are carrying whey protein.

Casein Protein - A rapid protein use is desirable immediately before and after exercise to help refuel recovering muscles, but delayed digestion and absorption may be more beneficial at other times; including bedtime when your body typically goes for hours without food. Casein proteins are acid sensitive and thicken in the stomach. Because of this, it can take more than twice as long for Casein to be broken down into its amino acid subcomponents than other proteins. What does this mean to for you? You are burning calories while you sleep!
