Hungry all the time
Hungry all the time

Hi There,

I've been holding off on this question thinking that the problem would resolve itself but unfortunately that's not the case. I've been following the nutrition plan that came with P90X phase one to a T and I find that I'm hungry shortly after I eat. I'm having a difficult time sticking to the plan because I'll try munching on veggies just to get me through to my next meal which results in overeating my 2 portions of veggies etc. I'll even drink 1 litre of water before I snack and wait 20 minutes just to see if it's a dehydration issue and that never seems to be the issue. I'm afraid if this continues that it will sabotage my efforts. I'm only 2 weeks into the plan and maybe I need to give it more time but any suggestions or opinions are welcomed. I'm 5.7' and I weighed myself two weeks ago at 152lbs yikes! I'm very experienced when it comes to nutrition so I know it's not what I'm feeding my body. Thoughts?

How much calories are you having daily? That's the first thing that comes to my mind. Is your goal to lose weight, or keep it ?

Hi melanj3! It's possible that with this workout your body is just telling you that it needs more fuel. Double check and make sure you are in the right calorie level. And even if you are, sometimes you still have to make adjustments. Check the guide because I know it talks about this. You can add in an extra carb serving or you can go up a level in calories.
Also, as a side note, have you ever had any trouble with acid reflux? You may not have, but I always like to check b/c sometimes the symptoms can manifest as hunger when it's really just acid churning in your stomach, and eating makes that feeling go away. So just checking.
Let us know if you need mor help figuring this out.

And in the future, you never have to wait to ask a questions. We are always here to answer you! emoticon

Solution to your problem: Take the calculated amount of calories based on your bmi and add 1000 calories to that. You then minus 60 carbs every week as you lose weight. This gets your body accustomed to the diet approach.

Macro intake (male):
Protein 1.5g/lb
Fat: under 100g
Carb: fill the rest of the calories with these and minus 60 each week.

Macro intake (female):
Protein 0.8g/lb
Fat: under 100g
Carb: fill the rest of the calories with these and minus 60g each week

What do you do after you eat? Do you find if get involved in something, the hunger goes away? It takes some time for the full hormome to get to the brain, leptin. It does sound liks you wait and then you drink water which is the right thing to do. Have you tried to add in some more fat or protein into your meals?

What is your overall goal with P90X? You are eating the number of calories suggested? if you are doing all this, your bosy may need more calories. Everyone reacts differently and recommendations are for the median. You may be an outlier emoticon You seem very educated when it come to nutrition so I would try to bump up calories 100-200 and see how you feel.

If you are looking for a great group to workout with come check out our support/motivation thread. Support & Motivation Thread Many are doing P90X.

Bring It!

Cheers,

Christina

It's hard to know exactly what to suggest without knowing how many calories you're taking in, so my first suggestion is to make sure you're eating enough. Sometimes, just following the portions can leave you a bit short on calories, so it's worth a double-check.

One other idea that you may explore is eating 3 larger meals with no snacks as opposed to 3 meals/2 snacks that the guide recommends. Sometimes, this can keep you fuller for a longer period of time, but everyone is different, so you'll have to experiment a bit. I know that my wife does much better eating 3 meals and 2 snacks, but the smaller portions leave me ravenous, so I do 3 large meals and no snacks.

Worth trying anyway.

Thank you everybody for your advise, greatly appreciated!

I try to stay under 1800 calories per day, forgot to mention that I'm doing level one, phase one. I've never thought about acid reflux but it's worth looking into except I've never had this problem up until I started the program. I used to fast frequently which really teaches you how to keep your hunger in check so that's why I was confused.

However, on a lighter note.... I did come across an article intended for P90Xers and it stated if you're sore, hungry and tired then that's a pure indication that the program is doing what it's supposed to do. Lose fat and gain muscle!! It then goes into details about each section so that you fully understand what's happeneing to your body during the program and phases. Muscles are being stripped so fast that your body is having a difficult time keeping up nutritional wise which is completely normal. After reading that I figured I'll just try to handle it day by day and hope that eventually it evens out. I hope that I'm on the right track and please correct me if I'm wrongemoticon
