motivation sleep anticipation night time
1/17/13 7:18 AM
I have been doing some kettlebell exercises to get past some of the "cobwebs" before starting P90X in the morning and in anticipation of my package coming. However, I find it difficult to get up and get motivated at 4 am.

Is it better do P90X in the morning to start your day, or night time when I am generally more awake. I am concerned at night that I wont get to sleep, but mornings are tough for motivation.

Well, it depends. emoticon

If you feel like you have more energy in the evening and have a hard time getting up early enough to fit in the workout, I would definitely suggest trying the evening. You don't want the early rising to be a contributing factor that makes you want to quit.

Get ready to Bring It!

Set your goals, take before pictures and measurements, and plan out how you are going to eat. Feel free to send me a message or friend request if you need any other tips. I'm happy to help. I finished P90X back in December and I'm 1/3 of the way through P90X2 with some Les Mills Combat added in for good measure. I've lost about 30 pounds and cut about 12% of my body fat so far.

Thanks for the reply, and I did send a friend request to you. Thanks!

One other question, should I jump into the first workout like a beast knowing that it has been a while since really being in any type of shape? I know if you overdo it, you may injure yourself, and I want to maintain the program consistently.

Well, I'm a fan of going all beast, but if you do, be prepared for the sore to follow. emoticon

Pace yourself but give solid effort so that you have a baseline for what you are getting your body into. You will probably get pretty sore the first week so I recommend drinking lots of water as well as consuming Shakeology, a whey protein, Results & Recovery, or good old fashioned low fat chocolate milk within an hour of completing your workout. This will help with sorenes and help your body replace some of the nutrients it needs for muscle repair and growth.

You want to keep your heart rate in a good and safe working zone as much as possible to maximize caloric burns. Around 65-85% of your max heart rate is a good baseline. Your max heart rate is 220 - your age in years.

Feel free to send me a private message with any other questions.

I took your advice and went at it like a beast.. Boy, did/do I feel it but now I feel great! I obviously need to work on my pushup strength, but that will come. I got through about 3/4 of the time allotted on the first few sets down to 1/2 on the later. By the final set of pushups I was pretty much spent.

It was also the first time using a chin up bar in the door frame. At 6'3, its a little difficult and nerve-racking to have your feet off the ground, but I pushed through.

Ab ripper is the beast!

Looking forward to tonight.

There you go! Great job!

The more you do it, the better you feel about doing it.

Finished Day 4... Yoga was crazy! I have the balance of a 100 year old...lol But that will get better!

Question on nutrition. According to the booklet, I should be around 2400 calories.

(211 lbs x 10 = 2110, 2110 x 20% = 420, + 600 p90x) = 3130 cals/day. Reduced because I am trying to lose weight to 2400. Does this sound correct?

2,400 cals seems like a boatload for me if so. I feel like I am eating a lot, but have only mustered a 2122 calorie day at 50%P / 26%C / 24%F

Am I on the right track?

2400 is probably upper end for where I would say to eat. What is your age and height?

I show your Basal Metabolic Rate at about 2050 calories. You generally want to keep your net calories above this until you start to drop weight. So eating 2400/2500 is probably a pretty good start point assuming about 500 calories per workout.
