I'm with you Dave. Completed P90X a few years ago and dropped over 60 lbs. Getting a lil loose in the cage again. Time to commit to INSANITY. Just about to start the fit test, figured I'd hit the boards first and find out if anyone was starting today. I'll post the results when I'm done.

I'm in. Did P90X last February and lost 12 pounds. Kept 9 off. But, I aggravated a torn meniscus in my left knee and had to have it scoped in June. I would love to drop 20 pounds, not sure I'm in condition to do that. I'm 56 and weigh 203. Did the fitness test today and trying to get the "Do your best, forget the rest" attitude going with my results. The further we got into the fitness test the less stamina I had.

Switch Kicks - 31
Power Jacks - 30
Power Knees - 62
Power Jumps - 15
Globe Jumps - 8
Push-up Jacks - 9
Low Plank Oblique - 9

Wow, nice fit tests! I decided this time to skip the fit test. Numbers have nothing on the way I feel and look. Just finished up Plyo and will again have "in! Out!" nit mares hahaha

I was a little sore this morning but that quickly went away. I have to admit though, as hard as these workouts are, I really like the torture. I was never a "workout" type but after last time and the feeling I am getting this time, maybe this will be the round that turns me into a daily workout type for the whole year and not just a few months. We shall see!

Kmcdon - well done on the first loss and you will shed those baby pounds quickly I have a feeling!

How are you all doing?

Hey TCR, I will tell you that I got to 260 by having my thyroid basically stop. I went undiagnosed for almost 5 years and had no idea what was up. Fighting back from that I had ZERO stamina. What I started doing was eating, a lot. I know it sounds counterintuitive but eating the right foods and in the right amounts (1900 calories a day for me) really improved my energy. I also take a protein drink 45 mins before I workout and directly after. That combination, and time, really helped me improve. Hope that helps you out.

OK, Plyo Circut done. Humbling, just humbling. Quick question. Since I definately have to break during the sets, do I push pause, or let the DVD keep running and jump back in. I feel I'm sitting for wayyyyyyy too long of the program. I know this first week will be tough. In P90X, I was so sore the first week it was hard to push through. The mind is just so impatient to improve....yet the body sets it straight when sweat starts hitting the floor. Just have to gear up, and continue to push play and watch for the little victories...

Dave,

I remember how good the recovery drink was after P90X workouts (didn't use their stuff, used Endurox). I've got that on hand for post recovery drink. Working on eating 5 meals, shooting for 2,200 calories/day.

I'm a Diet Coke junkie, and I'm trying to scale that way back, and trying to push the water...

Hey Dave! Congrats on losing the 56 pounds! Thats awesome. I would love to join your thread. I am starting Insanity today. I really need a support group. This is my second round of Insanity. I did my first round a year ago. I have been debating on doing another round for a few weeks. I just need to commit and do it!

So I will admit that I have trouble getting all the way through without lots of micro-breaks. I took more the first run through than I am taking now though. I look at it like this.

1) I will not hurt myself. So I stop when I feel that I cannot continue.
2) I watch the folks on the TV and they are also taking micro-breaks, so looking at how in-shape they are and where I am, I don't feel bad.
3) I do not stop the DVD because then I will take a longer break than required. I use a chest attached heart monitor and when I do stop, I look at that and wait for my heart rate to drop slightly, and then I get right back on it. I may only last a few more reps but then I just walk around for 5 seconds or so and get right back on the horse.

That is my routine and I got great results. Heck even Shaun T. takes breaks lol

We have to remember that this is a ridiculously tough workout and we are in it to get in shape, not kill ourselves.

One thing I did do was completely stop drinking any cola products. I did that last time I ran this cycle and it stuck. I do not miss them at all. I do a lot of water...

Hope that helps.

Well welcome Sarah and Paige!

Paige, I did the meal plan my first run through and learned how to eat correctly. Now I just eat right. I did have to jump up my calorie intake to make sure I had enough fuel for the workouts. If its your first time through, I recommend doing the meal plan to get that baseline. Also, if its your first time through, do the fit test. Its s HUGE motivator. I really did not see changes in myself the first 3 weeks BUT the fit test proved things were working. After that, pounds just started falling off and did so for at least a month and a half after I finished the cycle.

One of these days I will post some pics. I am still rather embarrassed at where I was but am pretty darn happy about where I am. No 6-pack yet but that is what round 2 is for!

Thank you Dave!! I actually did Insanity last year and did it for a month and followed most of the meal plan. I know the basics lean meats, vegetables, fruits, whole grain items, beans, fish, etc. My back started to hurt and then I just became lazy. I did the fit test around November so I'm just going to go by that. Congratulations on your results so far. I know what you mean about posting the pictures, but at least your happy with your results so far. Keep it up!

Hi Everyone,
I started 1/21 and would love to join this group! I did 60 days of P90X last spring, lost 13 pounds and a LOT of inches. I gained back most of the inches, but have kept the weight off. I decided to do Insanity because I was looking for shorter workouts. I attempted to start back in November and only got 2 weeks in due to changing jobs and getting used to a different schedule. I have since been doing some of the workouts to supplement my gym time, but am committed to the entire program this time. I haven't been part of a message board workout group, and I think it will help to keep me on track!

Welcome Angie! Yeah I have to have a group to keep me accountable. I tried without it and got lazy the first time.

I started yesterday as well, I'll post my fit test results when I get home tonight. I completed P90X a few years ago and read the forums all the time, but never actually posted anything, so thought I'd give it a shot this time, use it as a tool to stay motivated.

I'm a skinny guy that has always loved working out (prior military), but have slacked off recently and started to be able to see the change in my appearance (small gut, had to buy bigger pants, can see the weight gain in my face in pictures). My wife recently gave birth to our first son, and I want to commit to getting back in great shape to be a good role model for him.

I don't know about anyone else, but after early morning workouts, the five flights of stairs up to my office are brutal, and it's only been two days!!

Well welcome to the thread, 3rdLieutenant. If you stick around, we will keep you motivated!

It's funny you mention soreness. I workout early morning as well and this afternoon I got up from my desk chair and my calves were on fire!

I know that will only last for about a week or so and it tells me I am doing something!

Thanks for the welcome, Dave!

Here were my numbers from my fit test:
Switch Kicks - 50
Power Jacks - 45
Power Knees - 91
Power Jumps - 27
Globe Jumps - 8
Push-up Jacks - 25
Low Plank Oblique - 54

Some of my numbers may look a little suspect now that I look at them, butI I wasn't sure on some of them how to count (both sides individually or L+R=1), oh well, this is what I wrote.

I sit here and type this in sweat drenched clothing on the floor, as I just finished up Cardio Power and Resistance. Wow - and I thought I was sore yesterday, wait a few days for this to kick in! With all the strength stuff this morning, I'm definitely going to be feeling it.

I don't know about anyone else, but I have just as much trouble keeping up during the stretching as I do with the exercises. That whole 'keep a flat back and your arms straight out' concept just kills me, I start shaking and can't even stay in the right position. Not to mention at the end of today's workout, my arms were so tired from moving pushups that I could barely lift my arms over my head to do Shawn's favorite 'sweep your arms over your head while standing' stretch.

Leave it to Shawn T to make even the stretching difficult! Here's to day 3, good luck everybody, keep pushing play!

Well today was my first day of Insanity -Plyometrics (1/23/13) and I can tell you I took many micro breaks. Ive never done this program or really worked out that much, and well it definitely showed lol. I pushed as hard as I could to get in the groove. The pushups were by far the hardest for me since I have no upper body strength at all :wackoemoticonso I did the knee push ups til I can get that strenth). As far as everything else.... it was crazy too but I pushed on as best as I could. I look forward to the day this eases up just a bit and Im shedding pounds and gaining strength!
