losing inches, but not pounds
hi.
i am on my 14th day of insanity, have lost 3 kg in the first week, am eating correctly, have calculated my calorie intake multiple times according to my heigh, weight age etc. and subtracted what i needed to lose weight.

in the first week have lost 3 pounds, noticed weight fluctuates between days, should i be worried?
i am thinking to cut a meal out and make it 4 meals a day, so my intake would be 1400 calories per day instead of 1700 (5 meals).

as i said, inches around waist are dropping, but numbers on the scale or pounds arent. what does this mean?

any help appreciated. - yes i am following the diet strictly with portions, amounts, etc.

Don't, and I repeat DON'T cut out your meals! You sound like you are on the right path!

First off celebrate the inches you are losing! That's a GREAT sign of change! And are you noticing improvements in the workouts as well? Those are the most important!

The scale is evil! I will tell you that. The reason being, muscle weighs more than fat and it looks better! So weight will fluctuate according to the scale month 1, and you will see inches drop! Which is VERY important, and once you tackle the beast that is month 2 then you will start to see the fat start to melt away!

Keep up the awesome work! You can do this!

the workouts are phenomenal, and im getting better and better at them and enjoying them
im that keen that i go for a 5km run at night to supplement the workout
i do insanity in morning and then when i feel like it go for a run at night.
so i should keep the 5 meals and watch inches drop but still continue eating 5 meals?
just mindful that i dont want to do it wrong and then realise it later on down the track. if that makes sense

anyone else care to comment

I agree with DChavez, do not decrease calories. When I started, I was eating(under eating) about 1800 calories. By the third week, my body was begging for more food, not in a gluttonous way, but a legit need for food. Just into month two and eating about 2400 and feel I need every bit of it, I.e. not over eating.

Stick with the guidelines, but adjust to what your body is telling you.

I admit, I'm baffled when you say you're losing inches and not pounds-- 3 lb. in one week is great! What'd you expect, 10 lb. a week? That's insane! You're doing fine, just stick with the guidelines and what your body tells you.

Absolutely keep up the amount of calories you are on! And since you are also working out extra it may even be beneficial to add in an extra 200 calories! Remember the more you take out of your body the more fuel it will need!

And I do understand where you are coming from, I actually was eating around 1700 calories during my first round of Insanity during month 1 and my body was begging me for food just like Grand Master X's. And I can tell you that if you aren't careful you will definitely miss out on results! Eat too little and your body goes into starvation mode and it will retain weight and fat just to keep itself going.

thanks guys
i meant 3kg = 6.6 pounds in the first week
typo on my part.

ok ill stick to 1700 calories per day and that includes a 4:1 (carb to protein) recovery drink.

its just strange that weight (pounds is fluctuating) and thats whats worried me. id hate to know im doing all this work and i shouldve done it a different other way instead. but as i said, inches are dropping

Trust me, and more importantly trust Shaun T! You will get results! The fact that you made sure you double checked alone proves your determination! The scale will mainly fluctuate due to the gain in muscle! Don't forget like the nutrition guide says, once in month 2 you need to actually add more calories to your diet since your body will be needing it even more!

Keep up the awesome work! And keep us posted!

Muscle is more dense than fat, so the fact that your dropping inches from your waist means your losing fat!!! Awesome work....
