Lower back pain in CLX - modifications??
Does anyone know of any modifications you could do for the bent over exercises (such as bent over rows, dead lifts etc)? My lower back really hurts if I do more than 1 of these per session (Note: I've never been injured/had surgery/had back problems and yes, my back is flat not rounded). I end up having to cut these exercises short, not because of muscle failure but because my back can't take it.

Suggestions?

I had the same problem at first, what I found that helped was not bending over as much it almost seemed like I was standing up and reducing the amount of weight I was using. When I reduced the weight and really concentrated on my form I was able to get through it without the pain. I hope this help.

I'll give it a try. I think I have some of these coming up in my circuit tonight. Thanks for the suggestion emoticon

Ugh, been dealing with lower back problem for three months. Just starting to let up a little. I'll give you my two cents as well. Maybe replace bent over rows with one arm dumbell row (lawnmowers). Seem to be less stress on my lower back when I was in the lunge position. Dead lifts a tough one, if you must lighten the weight and listen to your body. If it hurts you may have to skip that one for now.

Good luck

So the workout I did yesterday had mostly dead lifts in it for the bent over moves (I did Burn Circuit 2), which as Fred mentioned, is pretty hard to modify. I think I will just have to go way down in weight on those and slowly work my way up. I wasn't using THAT heavy of weight to start with, but I guess it's just too much for my lower back right now. Anyway, tomorrow I'm doing Burn Circuit 3...don't recall specifically what sort of exercises are in that one, but I do plan to try leaning over much less whenever I get to those that don't involve dead lifts.

Thanks again for the suggestions!

I too had lower back pain when I did Burn 1. I have been doing all the suggestions but want to mention one more. Be sure and keep your abs tight the whole time. Really concentrate on that. It does help.

I have been trying to do that - or at least I thought I had. But I probably haven't been concentrating on it in particular, so I will give it a shot and see if it helps. I appreciate the suggestion.

There is something to that. I went to PT for about six weeks and we worked on a lot of core to help support the back. If you want some the core work let me know I'd be more than happy to pass them along. It was ice, heat, message and core work. It's finally betteremoticon
Like you I never stopped working out I made adjustments. Somedays it was a no go but listen to your body so it doesn't get worse.

Hope it heals soon
