Need a Sanity Check on My Daily Diet
Need a Sanity Check on My Daily Diet
p90x diet nutrition phase 1 level 2 food
1/23/13 5:25 PM
I started P90X on the 8th of January and have been pushing play ever since. Feeling great and looking forward to my 30 Day pics! However, I want a sanity check on my daily diet. Here's some facts about me:

Age: 36
Height: 6'0
Weight: 222
Sex: Male

I've taken a strict approach on my meals. Don't want to deviate and I don't mind eating the same thing often throughout the week. I do spice it up a bit, but this is my normal daily schedule:

Breakfast (8:00 am):
6 egg whites
1-2 cups spinach
1/2 bell pepper
little salt & pepper for taste

AM Snack (10:30 am):
Cliffbuilder's Protein Bar 20g

Lunch (12-12:30):
1 scoop of whey w/20 oz water
4 slices of turkey breast meat
1/2 cup of spinach
1 serving of Orrowheat Sandwich Thins
1 tbsp of mustard

PM Snack (2:30-3:30):
20 Almonds (un salted, ala naturale)
Whey Protein w/20 oz of water

Post workout: 1/3 serving Gatorade powder w/1 scoop of Whey Protein

Dinner (7 pm):
6-8 oz chicken breast
2-3 cups of assorted veggies (brocolli, corn, caluiflower, etc).

I use myfitnesspal to track my dailies and I hover around 1900 calories. I'm in it to lose weight and to tone up. I don't feel tired at all. I have plenty of energy during the workouts.

Like I said, I just want some feedback to gauge if I'm doing it as right as I can. Your feedback is greatly appreciated!

Forgot to add that if I do feel a bit hungry in the evening, I'll have a tangerine or another apple.

Looks good, IMO. Seems a little bit heavy on the whey protein (3x a day!), but otherwise, you've got a good high protein / low carb thing going there, with plenty of vegetables / fruits.

My main suggestion would be to look at your protein intake. Between the eggs, the whey x3, the clif bar, and the chicken, I'm guessing you're way over 1 g / 1 kg. As long as you're drinking plenty of water, I don't suspect that will hurt you, but I don't think it really adds anything to your progress either.

Aside from that, if you're hitting your caloric goals, and you have enough energy to do the workouts, you should be good to go.

If, on the other hand, you find yourself getting tired during your workouts, or even during the day, you can probably bump up your calorie count a bit safely. A safe target for weight loss is about 1-2 lb/week. If you're hitting that, awesome. With this diet, you may be overshooting that target, which, again is ok for now, but may not be sustainable over the long haul.

Can you post some of your breakdowns from MyFitnessPal as far as Prot/Carb/Fat? I'm on the same 1900 calorie target as you are and have been seeing about 2-3lbs per week loss so far. I'll bump my calories up a bit to 2300ish starting day 31 to help push things along.

You can look at my diary under rayvas at MFP. My diary is public.

I started out at 226 on the 8th of January and I'm at 221/222. About 2 lbs per week it seems on average.

Thank you for the input. I drink plenty of water each day, normally in excess of 200 oz! I go through 10 20 oz water bottle refills on a daily basis, so I believe I"m getting enough water...
