Energy Issue - Need help!
Energy Issue - Need help!

About a year ago I started P90X. I finished it and then completed another round. I then moved on to P90X2 a few months back and finished that as well. Needless to say, I felt great! However, like a few others I know, I took a few weeks off due to travel and family for the holidays. 3-4 weeks ago I started P90X2 again for another round, but for the past 3-4 weeks I've been having a difficult time keeping my energy level up. I haven't made any major changes to my diet and the only big difference I can think of is the few weeks I took off from workouts for the holidays.

My past 3-4 weeks have unfolded as follows...

I try to do my workouts after work when I get home. However, when I get home I'm incredibly tired and I struggle to find the energy to do the workouts. I get through the workouts, but I don't feel as energized and as strong as I did when I finished P90X2 the first time. The following guesses are longshots, but could my energy level for this round of P90X2 be related to things like sunlight and temperature? I only ask because those are the only differences I see between now and the time before the holidays.

So what I'm saying is that I did 3 rounds of P90X/X2 (started in February of 2012). Most of that time I worked out when the sun was out and in mild to warm weather (I live in Chicago). I took a few weeks off from workouts for the holidays and I started a 4th round of P90X(2) early this year (2013). Maybe taking a few weeks off and starting another round in a "different" setting made me crash? Just a thought.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated! emoticon

Eric -- are you working out at the same time of day as before? Anything change in work or your life that maybe stressing you out? I know you said nothing has changed in your diet, but are you 100% sure? Think through any changes as small ones could add up.

You may want to try an energy drink or a little whey protein before working out as well

Caffeine does wonders = Coffee or tea an hour before your workout will do wonders

I have noticed that my energy level dips with increases in room temperature... The colder the room, the more strength I seem to have, so that could be at least part of it.

Since you took a few weeks off, I suspect this is the main problem. A general rule of thumb is that it takes the same amount of time that you've had off from working out (at least) to get back to where you were before you stopped. The body can change quickly, whether it is for better or for worse.

I tend to dislike pre-workout energy drinks before working out because you may become dependent and need them each and every day in order to get a decent workout. It can get to a point where if you don't get your pre-workout energy drink, you can't perform effectively, and I'm not a fan of being dependent on something like this.

Hope this helps. If you have more questions, let me know.
