Brazil Butt Lift - The Plank
Hi,

I'm on my 3rd week of Brazil Butt Lift and I can only hold the plank position for 5 seconds tops. I do push ups instead during the BBL plank exercises. How long did it take before you could follow along with the plank exercises?

Hi Tiger007 (luv the screen name emoticon),

Congratulations on reaching your third week! That's awesome. I love the Brazilian Butt lift program!

Can I ask you which part of your body is giving you the most trouble holding this pose? Is it your back, stomach, legs, arms? You indicate that you're in your 3rd week... how long had it been prior to this program that you were previously engaged in regular workout routines/program? If it's been awhile you may need to build up your strength in several areas before you can hold a plank position for a long period of time. I realize I haven't directly answered your question about how long did it take me before I could hold a plank for longer than 5 seconds however you can't compare yourself to others because there are so many variables... level of fitness, age, strength etc. The best thing to do is keep working at your fitness level because as long as you're consistent and give it your best effort you will improve everyday!

Hi Coach Susan, Thanks for the feedback. I am out of shape all over but the BBL program is whipping me into shape with great results so far. I lost 7 inches in the first 2 weeks. Tomorrow is my day to wiegh and take my measurements, can't wait to see my results.
I was just looking for some hope that some day I will be able to do the plank for more than 5 seconds. I tried doing it tonight with my arms straight instead of on my elbows and forearms. I could hold it a little longer that way. Just gotta keep building up my strength and some day i'll get there.

The plank can be tricky. I used to be pretty good at it but I got out of working out for awhile. I've now got a shoulder that has been taking a beating at work which adds to my difficulties in doing planks now. I'm early in the 4th week of the program. I'm starting the plank on elbows and toes then dropping to my knees when I start to weaken. Proper form is most important. If the shoulder is hurting I skip putting the one arm behind my back and stay where I was. Everybody is different and there is no shame in sticking with level one for now. Keep at it and it will become easier. Good luck!

You will be able to once you build up your core and upper body strength. I first did this with P90X and it got easier and easier each time. I think doing the yoga really helped with the that. I lead 4 women in BBL and they are all struggling just like you and always ask how I can do it...the more you workout the stronger your muscles will get. My girls cant even do a pushup so your almost there! I would suggest adding in some yoga to build your strenth. Good luck!!

I haven't started BBL yet (or any Beachbody programs), but this is something great about the Beachbody programs I've heard about: they give you something to work up to. You may not be able to do the plank for more than 5 seconds now, but as time progresses you will be able to do it longer and longer until you have no trouble at all keeping up with the video. emoticon

I am able to hold the plank longer than 5 seconds now. Thanks everybody for your encouragement when I first started I thought I'd never be able to do the plank exercises but now I am getting stronger and can at least do level one. I finished 4 weeks of the Too Big Solution and just started the Classic solution this week. Losing inches and pounds.YAY.
