How many calories???
How many calories???

I am starting my first round of P90x on Monday. According to the P90X nutrition levels, I am supposed to consume 3180 calories or be a level 3. Doesn't this seem quite high?

My goal is to lose fat weight and gain muscle.

My other research indicates that I should consume much lower calories (2000 calorie range).

Please provide advise.

Thanks

Hello, and congratulations on choosing P90X. Was my first program too!

As far as calories, have you tried contacting your coach? If you get no reply, I would have no problems helping you figure it out. I would just need your age, weight, and height.

Buddy request sent, in case you wanted to message me those details privately.

I'd be happy to help and calculate your caloric intake each day. To do that I'd need your age, weight and height.

Make sure you take your before pictures and measurements too. Also, sign up for the Beachbody challenge Beachbody challenge link .

I just started a new message board thread for people starting this week (most are P90X-er's . Come check it out, there is a lot of great info on there and some really good people who have already started to post their accountability.

I'll keep an eye out for you!

Silver,

Unfortunately, you can't have it both ways. Losing weight but gaining muscle are contradicting goals. It is best to focus on one. My suggestion is that if you want to get "ripped" is to lose body but maintaining your lean body mass. You have to do this by running a calorie "DEFICIT" meaning that you burn more calories than you take in. a 500-1000 calorie deficit below maintanence is appropriate for losing the fat but not losing your muscle. If you run too large of a calorie deficit for too longer, you metabilsm catches u and puts you in a "starvation mode". Your metabilism will slow down and you won't be burning the calories or making the progress you want. You want to make sure that you feed your muscles and use that to burn the fat. If you run a SURPLUS when you have a lot of fat, you will get the bulky look but not shredded.

In short, shred the fat first before thinking about putting on any mass or muscle. You will become stronger and more efficient with this plan.

Contact me if you have any questions about caloric intake, fitness, or goals.
