My calves have been sore for about a week now and they don't seem to be getting much better. i have been using tiger balm in the morning and evening which helps a little. Any suggestions on how to help this? Its weird because they are probably the strongest part of my body due to the my job.

Hi Scott!

How is P90X going? Have you been stretching your calves? Been using a foam roller?

What do you do?

Here are some good stretches:

Wall Calf Stretch

Stand a little less than arm's distance from the wall.
Step your right leg forward and your left leg back, keeping your feet parallel.
Bend your right knee and press through your left heel.
Hold for 20 to 30 seconds and switch legs.

Downward Facing Dog

This basic yoga pose is a great calf stretch.

Begin in a plank pose with your hands under your shoulders then lift your pelvis up making a "V" with your body. Spread your fingers wide.
Work on bringing your heels toward the ground.
Allow your heels to flare out slightly wider than your toes. Reach your sits bones, on the bottom of your pelvis, high to the ceiling to increase the stretch.
Try treading lightly, alternating your feet, to deepen the stretch as well.
Hold for 30 seconds

Calf and Shoulder Stretch at the Wall

This stretch is a great multitasking stretch that opens the shoulders as well as the calves.

Stand in front of a wall with your feet together. Place your hands on the wall shoulder-width apart.
Rock your weight back on your heels without locking your knees, so your toes get pulled off the ground. Reach your bum out as far as you can by lengthening through your spine. Tuck your chin to feel a deep stretch in the back of your neck.
Stay here for thirty seconds and then shift your weight forward, placing your toes back on the ground.

Cheers!
Christina

Thanks for the info Christina i will have to try those stretches tomorrow. I'm loving P90X so far and can't wait to start week 3 tomorrow. I feel a lot better about myself, my attitude has improved and I feel very confident for the first time in my life. I'm a union electrician so lots of going up and down stairs and ladders. the one thing i have a question about is what is a foam roller and what do u do with it?
thanks
Scott

Hey Scott, I would definitely do the X Stretch a few times a week to loosen up your calves. Foam rolling is awesome and I love it! I do the P90x2 Recovery & Mobility workout all the time which has foam rolling
