Get Super Fit After the Super Bowl-Starting Feb. 4th!
New Group Beginning on February 4th!

I'm starting a new group to keep together some of my old friend as well as make some new ones. If you're thinking of starting Insanity, Asylum, or any other workout, we'd love to have you join us!

My name is Patrick and I run a lot of races. I like to run 5ks, 10ks, 1/2, Marathons and especially Obstacle Races like Spartan and Warrior Dash. I use Insanity, Asylum, P90X, and X2 for my training. I'd love to have a great group of folks doing any of those programs to keep accountable with.

Hi Patrick emoticon emoticon emoticon

You know I will keep following you! emoticon

My ITBS is getting worse. I tried running 9 miles Sunday, after resting from running most of the week, and cut it short at 8.63 because the pain was excruciating and I was in tears. I decided if I am even going to consider this half marathon at all I need to back even farther off. I stretched, foam rolled, and switched off ice and heat yesterday, along with some ibuprofen (which I NEVER take!) and that is my plan for today as well. Wed, thu, and fri I will attempt some asylum workouts as long as there is no ITB pain, and then the Warrior Dash is saturday. I am supposed to run 10 miles on sunday, but with the race of course I am not going to. I am going to see how I feel Monday morning. If not, then I will attempt Tuesday. If the pain doesn't subside then I unfortunately am going to have to give up on the idea. That makes me very sad to think about because I have been training so hard and was really looking forward to doing it.

How are your knees holding up? Did you finally get rid of your ITBS? If so, any more suggestions for me?? Have you considered doing that insanity/asylum hybrid? Man that looks like a toughie! If I end up doing the half marathon, I am going to do the hybrid starting the monday after my birthday (marathon is march 17, bday is the 23). If I don't end up doing the marathon, then I'm gonna start that hybrid on Feb 11th or 18th most likely, depending on my stupid ITBS. What are you starting on the 4th?

Deana!
I knew I could count on you. So sorry to hear that the ITBS is worse! That's no good. Mine is all but gone on my right knee but now I think I have "patellofemoral pain syndrome" in my left knee. I looked up my symptoms and that's what the internet told me. ;) I'm rehabbing this week with rolling, ice, yoga, and stretching. I foam roll from the hips to the calves, quads, hamstrings, glutes, all of it. It's helping.

My advice on the 1/2 is this: if you can run 9 miles then you can do a 1/2 marathon. If it's not 'til March I would just maintain that distance so you don't injure yourself. I've worn a knee brace and also one of those knee straps that basketball players wear. They both work as well as KT Tape.

I want to do that Hybrid but I also really want to get Asylum 2. For the next week I'm rehabbing, then I'll be working out for a month at an Obstacle Course facility here in Vegas to prepare for my Spartan Super in April. Along with Asylum and Insanity.

Hey Patrick! I hope more people join us on here!!

Well, I did the Warrior Dash this weekend (as you can see from my pic emoticon ) and I had an absolute blast! I did really well with my time, except having to wait for a few of the obstacles. The rest of us had the same issue so I wasn't too concerned. A lot of people were going around the obstacles which to me was so stupid. Why would you go all that way to do a obstacle race, just to go around them? Yeah, so your time was better. Who cares?! To me those people were missing the point. My knee was killing me after! ugh emoticon When we were going through ice cold water in the obstacles it actually helped my knee pain, like it was getting an ice bath. By the time I finished it was on fire and during the course of the next few hours that followed it got worse and worse. So my plan is to not run this week, continue my ice, heat, stretch, foam rolling, and regular asylum workouts (not plyo, I think it's too much of an impact on the IT band) and try and run next sunday. I'm gonna rest again Monday, then again Saturday as well. If the run doesn't go well Sunday, the I unfortunately am not going to be able to do the half... I hope that is not the case cuz I have really been looking forward to it.

How has your week gone? What are you starting tomorrow?

Hope you enjoy the game! I personally couldn't care less about the Super Bowl this year emoticon

Awesome job at the Warrior Dash. I thought it was a fun race when I did it so I'm glad to hear you had the same experience. I'm going to do a week of Asylum and then obstacle training. I'm trying to cut about 8 lbs. for 'race weight'. These knee injuries really blow!!! My next race isn't til the end of Feb. but then I'll have to decide whether or not it's finally time to see a Dr. about my knee.

I would love it if more joined, even if it's just our crew. Some of them are MIA. I really hope you're able to do your half. You've put in some work to get there!

Patriiiiiiick!! Where is everyone?!?!

So what are you doing for your obstacle training?

I did overtime after game day for the first time the other day and WOW!!! What a workout! I still haven't run since the Warrior Dash. I was going to try Monday, but now I'm thinking I might wait till Tuesday since I have a massage Monday and I'm going to have her work a lot on my IT band. We shall see...

Your IT band knee brace, do you remember the brand or what it was called?

I'm thinking they're all gone! Can't remember the name of the brace but I'll look. It's one piece with a hole for the kneecap. The band I have is Muellher I think. The obstacle place here in Vegas has tons of stuff. Traverse walls, rope climbs, monkey bars, 8 ft walls, and some American Ninja Warrior stuff. They have daily workouts they set up so I'll be doing those. It's $50 for the month and I'll be going with my two buddies at 4 a.m. Should be fun!!!

Patrick

I tried some Asylum 2 last night and it's AMAZING!!! The Ab Shredder is incredible and I tried a little of X Trainer. Crazy footwork!
