Feeling a little discouraged
Hi guys, Im about to start week 12 of P90X and Im starting to feel discouraged. Im eating all the right foods and working out every day but it isnt reslly showing. My strength has improved a hell of alot, when I started I could only do around 5 pull ups, now Im doing 18 or so. But when I look in the mirror all I can see is the same skinny guy as when I started day 1. The only real change I notice is my abs, they feel twice as firm and are starting to take shape. Is this normal? Or should I be seeing a finely toned muscle machine by now?

It takes time to pack on muscle but as you have mentioned your strength has definitely increased by quite a lot in a short period of time. The other thing with P90X is you will see different changes at different stages of the program.

Remember you still have 60 days to go. Just imagine what IS going to happen over the next 2 months!!! Rather than focus upon what you haven't reached yet, focus your attention on all that you have reached and achieved and this way you will reinforce that much more your commitment to your self and your program.

Also make sure that you are tracking your eating because as you increase your strength and output, by both the number of reps but also by the weight that you push, you will need to look at providing more for your body in the way of nutrition and nutrients. Muscles need proper nutrients to continue to grow and refine.

Are you using Shakeology? What about a pre and/or post workout supplement?

YOU ARE DOING AMAZING really. Keep up the great work. Take pictures they tell a huge story that you can and will be proud of. Keep your focus where it needs to be and that's on your gains and not where you still need to get to. Just look at how far you've come in only 1 month!!! Let your self be proud emoticon

I'd love to hear about the next phase and your gains, your accomplishments.

Kathleen

From 5 pullups to 18 is awesome, congratulations! P90X is the best overall program out there but isn't designed to put on a lot of muscle mass. It will make you stronger, burn fat, and get you in the best shape of your life but if you want to put on muscle mass I definitely recommend Body Beast, which is designed for just that! Keep it up, you're obviously gaining in a lot of other ways!

Dont get discouraged! You are feeling stronger and have improved on your pullups, thats a great acheivement! If you are feeling stronger and feeling like your getting tighter in your abs its only a matter of time before you can see the results! As mentioned above, take pictures, sometimes you dont think you look any different but when you compare side by side pics you can see the changes! Keep up the great work!!

Sorry you might have misread, I said week 12 which is almost at the end of the 90 days emoticon Its strange because sometimes I can see small changes, then nothing at all. Usually when I wake up in the morning and look in the mirror I see the most difference.

I dont use shakeology either, would that make a difference?

I guess I need to just be patient and not get thrown off by the ones that have changed their lives after 90 days, my time will come emoticon

Matthew I have considered body beast, have you done it? How does it compare to P90X?

I'll probably do another round of P90X first and see how I feel.

Are you getting enough protein? I recommend whey protein mix if not. Also, are you doing 8-10 reps with the last couple being tough? If not, up your weight until you are. Other than that it sounds like you are doing awesome!

Yes I'm on my second fund of body beast, it's almost all lifting weights, lots of reps blasting different muscle groups each day. I've had good success with it, you will gain muscle by also fat and will have to lean out afterwards. I'm going to continue to build for a few more months then cut back and lean out toward summer. Will probably start mixing in some P90X2 to lean.

Another round of P90X isn't a bad idea, I did several. You're getting results, don't get discouraged because if they aren't coming as fast as you want... We all want things to happen quickly and it just doesn't wrk like that!
