Starting slow!!
Starting slow!!

Hi there, my name is Tim.... Ive decided that I have gained enough weight and its time to do something about it. I am currently 6'2 and 359. I am a big guy and I carry my weight well. Only problem is Im too damn big. I work a four on four off schedule that is pretty active so I get plenty of exercise for now. Im not making an excuse for not working out, I just dont have the time for it with work, remodeling my house and what not. I quit smoking in November of 2010 so I already know if I put my mind to something, I can do it. Ive recently started Shakeology and I usually take it every morning. I know its not much , but its a start. I have this idea of trying alittle at a time and right now Im weening myself off of any kind of pop. Eventually id love to get into the gym and start a workout that will get me in the best shape of my life. I would love to find a coach that will work with me every step of the way. Here is a quick example of what I have been taking to work with me for the day as far as food.... Shakeology for breakfast before work, a turkey sandwich on wheat w/ miracle whip, 2-3 string cheese, salad with grilled chicken and italian dressing, and for dinner its either a steak and noodles, or healthy choice meal... that all depends on what Ive got to use... I know I have lots of work to do on the food, but it could be worse... I would love to hook up with new friends and a coach that is helpful.. Send me a friend invite if I sound like somebody you could get to know.. Thanks in advance, Tim emoticon

Hi Tim, You just need 1 hour a day!, Can you find 1 hour a day? You are eating pretty healthy, but need more proteins and take out the cheese, dressing, noddles. At least the first month! If you are really committed I can give you a hand!

We have a group starting Feb 1 of P90X.

Hi Tim,

Great job on getting started! You are moving in the right direction. It didn't take yuo overnight to get to 359lbs, so you're not going to lose it over night either. Eliminated bad nutrition out of your diet like you have been with soda, will get you results. getting rid of Soda alone will help your lose 20 lbs in a month.

My wife and I are both coaches and personal trainers. We would love to help you win at this. If we can help, feel free to reach out to us. You got this Tim!

Hello Timothy,
I see that you are making some healthy changes in your lifestyle and i am glad that you did. Losing all that weight is gonna take you some time but you can do it!

I looked at your nutrition and it seems to be looking good, but now you gotta dig deeper and track everything down so you know how much you are eating.

Using the Harris-Benedict formula we can determine your maintenance calorie and drop a little below it so that you can lose weight. You just eat way less to drop weight. The healthy way of doing it is to drop slightly below your maintenance calorie and shred 1 pound at a time. With a 500 calories drop you will lose 1 pound per week.

I can help you figure what to eat, how to eat and when so you get great results. Let me know if you want me help you. Thank you!

No offense but counting calories is for the birds... Like I said before, I dont have the time to hit the gym or even work out at home.. And I especially dont have time to sit there and count calories and weigh all the food I eat... Im just looking for someone to help with some info that I just dont know about food and the proper ways to go about it... I have yet to come across someone who doesnt swear by it (counting calories)... There has to be someone that looks at it the same as me... Maybe this was a bad idea looking for help... Take care...

Hi there! Might I make a suggestion - and this is how I started my journey:
Check out "Michi's Ladder" under Eat Smart in the toolbar above.

You've already started swapping out some foods, now it's time to swap out some more. Ideally, we'd all be eating pure Tier 1 and maybe some Tier 2, but it's something I'm still working at (2 years later). I printed out the guide and took it (and still do) when I grocery shop.

I don't calorie count, but I am a stickler for portion sizes. Become a label reader.

The other thing that has really helped me is figuring out where I get in my own way. For example, I wanted to bring my lunch to work. So I bought a lunchbag and a few icepacks. Except that I would forget to put the icepacks back in the freezer overnight, so the next day I would get something (burger and fries) from the cafe at work. To "get out of my own way" I bought enough icepacks for 2 days of lunches! That way if I forget to put 1 set in the freezer, there's always another set ready for me.

I started my journey at 310 and I've been able to lose 60 pounds - slowly - by making small lifestyle changes. I know you will be successful as well!

Let me know how I can help you further.

Hi Tim,

You are not wasting your time. Everyone here is trying to give you knowledge to help you. If you are just looking for the basics....then cut out sugars, bad carbs ( breads, pastas, white rice, etc.) balance your protein, carbs, and fats for every meal. Increase your veggies. Here's a simple meal.....chicken breast....cup of cooked brown rise, and half plat of veggies........it this for both lunch and dinner, sub shakes and bars for your snacks, have eggs and veggies for breakfast....cut out sodas....drop 30-40lbs in 30 days

I understand you might not want to count calories, workout, etc... We are offering you information that will help you get results. What you have done up to this point has not worked....to continue on this path will provide the same results. If you want change, then you'll need to make changes. We are providing you a blue print to lose the 200lbs or so that you want to lose. Would you build a brand new house with no blueprint? Of course not. Just like, trying to lose weight, you need a blueprint.

I hope you utilize some of this that we have offered. Wishing you the best of luck in your goals.

I couldn't have said it better than Jeff.

If you don't put any effort into it how do you think change will happen? Counting calories doesn't take a lot of time and you can do it for only a few weeks if you can stay accountable to you nutrition. If you can get your nutrition right and stick to it after, you wont have to count calories after some time.

That almost how i do it, i eat almost the same thing every day and every week so i know without even counting how much calorie i eat. I still check it from day to day but i know that what my food is healthy and that my calorie and macros are right.

Remember that you are the one reaching out to us for help, if you don't want our help and advises and wanna go your way this is up to you.

Thank you and have a good day!

Dominic
