Keeping Fit In College!
1/30/13 8:24 PM
So since I've started dorming for the spring semester I've found that doing Insanity, P90X or any other kind of home workout is not going to happen. So instead of giving up on getting/keeping fit I've decided to make this thread to help keep myself accountable!

I'll be posting what I did for a workout for the day, it could be anything from a 5 mile walk, to an intense class of martial arts (I practice and compete in Taekwondo)

I'll also be posting a general overview of what I ate for the day (Mostly dining hall food)

Anyone is welcome to join me. It doesn't matter if you're not in college, really fit, not fit, Doing some kind of program, or doing what I'm doing and just trying to keep in shape!

Lastly, go ahead and post your progress whether it's good or bad! We have to be accountable!

As for Day Number One:

Today I went for a 5 mile walk for a light workout (I did 14 straight rounds of sparring yesterday, and I'm all beat up!) My meals were almost identical, consisting of a Turkey and cheese sandwich on wheat bread, with mustard and jalapenos (my favorite), an apple, and a diet pepsi. The only difference is that for breakfast my drink was a glass of skim milk.

Overall I feel pretty solid about today

As for my stats (i'll be weighing myself every Saturday)

Current weight: I have no idea! somewhere around 240, we'll find out Saturday
Goal weight: 210
BF Percent: 20
BF Percent Goal: 12

I live in a town that is home to a college. A lot of the students there do Insanity and P90X ( with bands ) they do it in the common room on their floors. Some dorms have floor wars/challenges to see who gets the best fit tests..

If they can do it, you can do it as well. Keep moving and grooving and your goals will be closer each day..

Good Luck!

John

That's something to look into for sure. As far as I can tell my floor has nothing of the sort going on... yet emoticon

As far as Day Number Two was:

Today I took two martial arts class, one 30 minute kumdo (korean swords) class, as well as a blackbelt level Taekwondo class. During sparring a 3rd Dan and I got a little... competitive which left me with a nice red welt, or bruise or something on my arm. We're gonna go do some cardio training tomorrow!

As for food I'd say I did a little worse than yesterday, with my breakfast being fruit, eggs, and a muffin with skim milk, my lunch one of my turkey sandwiches and an apple with a diet pepsi, but my dinner was kinda bad as i got pulled out to a pizza shop where i got a chicken sub (I was weak! I'm sorry!) with a coke zero.

Overall it was not a BAD day, nor was it spectacular. Tomorrow I must do better!

Hi there! I too am a college student and I find that I am well able to do P90X, Insanity, Asylum, etc. I usually bring the DVDs to the gym and play them on my laptop. I have all the weights and other equipment available for me there and I just find a corner or area where there's not a lot of people.

Navigating the dining halls can be difficult, but it is possible to eat well. You want to stick to lean protein, healthy fats, fruits, veggies, and whole grains as much as possible. Fill up on veggies from the salad bar and avoid refined grains and sugars.

Hope this helps!!

Seems that a lot of people are able to still do P90X, Insanity and the like even in College. Maybe I can look into these ideas.

As for Day 3:

Breakfast was almost the same is yesterday, except I skipped out on the fruit. So eggs, a muffin, and milk. Lunch was a whole wheat bagel with creamed cheese along with some yogurt. My dinner was spaghetti and meatballs. I had some frozen yogurt as desert.

Overall it was better than yesterday In my opinion.

I almost forgot that today was a light workout of just beating on a punching bag for 30 or 40 minutes, practicing footwork and the like. Turns out there's a tournament coming up in March! I have a goal now!

Gonna weigh in tomorrow. I'll be back with the news then.

Day 4!

I made today a cheat day, the main reason is that I'm visiting home for the weekend. But even though I did that I still had a pretty good day.

I'll skip the rundown of my diet for the day as I did not take the time to record it (You have no proof I ate that candy bar!) But for exercise: After helping to teach a few classes of TKD, I practiced for about an hour on my own. About an hour later I weighed in and checked my body fat and here are my results:

Current Weight: 234 lbs! Quite a bit lower than I expected! I was 137 my last weigh in a few weeks ago but I assumed the worst and guessed that I had gained.

Current Body Fat: 19.4%! Last time I checked this I was at about 21, but lo and behold! Progress!

Back to normal sensible eating tomorrow. Thankfully I really don't care about sports so the superbowl has no sway on me for getting together to eat junkfood with my friends.
