my poor knees- please help !
Hi Im beside myself now. I started Insanity in November last year. My fitness overall according to the fitness test results has increased by 58 % !! so I am more than pleased but my knees are not so much .... I was fine until I started month 2. Month 1 took longer than a month due to life stuff, health, christmas etc etc, but I never gave up ! i turned 40 on new years day and ive been determined to go into my forties fit and healthy. Im not obese but i am rather "burlesque" all in proportion but in need of shrinkage and less bounceage emoticon I started month 2 in January and ive suffered badly with my knees. Ive eventually gone back to month 1 today but even after resting for a week my knees are hurting again and its been like this all month on and off. i bought some knee jumper straps as i thought it was all the jumping causing the problems but so far i just have constant aching and throbbing in the knee area. its so upsetting and frustrating ! This is the first ever exercise programme ive enjoyed doing and dont get bored with!! your programme is genious, all the different workouts are so motivational! Im based in the UK and Davina McCall is only amusing for a max of 5 views ! (thats funny to UK babes)Your programmes dont mess about, get in, sweat, get out. I do NOT want to stop but I dont know what to do about my knee pain ?? Do I work through it? Is it the muscles around my knees getting stronger? should i rest?, see a physio? am i maybe doing something wrong? - i do however work really hard on form- Im not seeing the weight loss or toning benefit as i should because of the constant breaks im having with knee pain. emoticon please help ! ...i have to say though my botty is as solid as breezeblocks and my bobbilies stand to attention more now than they did when i was sweet sixteen !! Still recommend Insanity to anyone and everyone who isnt already fed up of hearing me harp on about it emoticon

I have knee problems as well and take a glucosamine, chondroitin and msm supplement to help with joints. Also, I use LivSport which is a pre-workout cream.

I had knee pain too, but I found that using a cushion, or a thick mat made the pain go away.
Its worth a try, if you love Insanity.

font=Arial][/font] I have been having the same problem for about 2 years. are u working out on a hard surface? if so stop, rest and get soft surface like a jumping mat or even some carpet.

I sarted noticing my knee when i started P90X 1. I has into my finally month and I wasnt always constant to the workout schedule but evertime i did the PLYO X or Legs Workout I felt an aching pain in my knees(btw at the time i was 29) I started doing INsanity a bout and mixing my workouts, but my leg performance was going down. Went to doctors and the basically let me know to lay of ant jumping, lunging and squatting movements. I had to stop for a month, but when I wne t back to working out, the pain was there and it still remains.

I would show to scale back and modify some of the plyo moves in INSANITY. Instead of going for a full jump, do a slow motin squat. Ive been told that running helps. Also doing leg extension can help build up the muslce around the knees

I have knee problems too and have had surgery in the past. I found that working on a cushioned surface- like a good gym mat (thicker than a yoga mat) really helped. I also found that after I started getting stronger quadricep muscles (thighs) - my knee pain was significantly better. Lastly, I realized that you need quality cross fit training shoes with good support. Hope this helps emoticon

Go buy 2 jumper knee straps. They are little straps that go just below the knee to support it when you jump, lunge etc. They worked wonders for my wife.

Sounds like solid advice.. I've had my left knee ACL, PCL and LCL reconstructed after ice hockey injury and it gets a little "sharp" sometimes.
I'll give the jump strap a shot and see how I get on..emoticon

what kind of surface are you working out on? If it's a hard surface, stop and find some type of carpet or cushioned mat to workout out on.

With all the jumping and movements of Insanity working out on a hard surface is going to ruin your knees. When you workout on carpet, cushioned mat or just a softer surface the softer surface helps absorb the shock from all the jumping and movements from the workout. Your knees should feel a lot better if you are on a softer surface.
