Yoga kicked my ass.
Yoga kicked my ass.
1/31/13 6:55 PM
Im on week one (day 4) of P90X, and am feeling the severe aches and pains associated with a hard workout on a unfit body. Ok lets be honest, I can barely walk up stairs or put on a t-shirt without flinching or tears running down my face.

Nevertheless I was excited about Yoga X, as I've always wanted to get into yoga but was too embarrassed to go out and sign up for a class. This gives me a great opportunity to jump into it. Admittedly I went into it with a little cockiness and a "Lets rock this" attitude, and was humbled at first by the 1:30:00 time on the clock, but I snorted and didn't think twice about it.

When we started I recall whispering to myself "I have made a terrible mistake, and immediately regret this decision."

I lasted 16 minutes before I couldn't physically hold my own weight on my shoulders in downward dog/plank, nor could my legs keep me up for sun salutations. 16 minutes and I was beaten to the ground and no amount of pauses could help me. 16 whole minutes before I truly realized how out of shape and inflexible I really am. I crawled up my stairs to my room completely and utterly shattered and broken.

Challenge accepted Mr Horton

Next week, I'm getting to 25-30 minutes.

See you tomorrow!

LOL! Yoga will kick your butt for sure! It is my nemisis! It is the one day and the one workout i feel i have to absolutely bring it and give my all. It is the most challenging of all the P90X workouts. It will grow on you eventually and you will learn to love it. It is extremely tough though! Keep it up and try harder next time! emoticon

LMAO, this so brings back memories of my first Yoga X session! Was going to be an easy rest day to get stretched out and relax…. NOT! It's by far the hardest of the P90X workouts, bar none. Glad to see you're accepting the challenge, most are looking for a Yoga X alternative after the first round. Keep after it bro, I'm still laughing, great post!

@ CoachMaczilla23 - Oh I absolutely love it. I definitely love a challenge and Yoga X is one of the hardest things I've had to do other than put on a tshirt the day after Yoga X. I already look forward to next weeks rematch.

@ MatthewG63 - I thought the same thing, a nice relax day to stretch out then I won't need to do X Stretch on Sunday, now I think I'll need X Stretch just to undo Yoga X.

Hey, Yoga X was one of the hardest workouts when I first tried P90x a little over a year ago! Take your time and learn the moves. It is now one of my most favorite workouts and has so many benefits. It took me weeks just to learn some of the moves! But once you understand the moves and have the ability to do them, you will see the benefits.

Hah!!! Oh man, you have NO idea how good this post just made me feel. Not because you failed so miserably at it but because I just had almost the EXACT same experience! You and I are apparently on the same schedule. emoticon I did make it longer though - to 35 minutes but to be honest with you, I skipped the downward dog poses about halfway through the first part. I did the first few sets but I just can NOT do the runners pose and especially the leg swing through to get there. No sirree! So instead what I did was stand and then wait until they got to runners pose then followed along as best I could from there. This might be something you (and others struggling with this one) could do. Do the downward dog part until your arms just can't take it anymore. Then move to a standing position and follow along once they get to runners pose of each movement. Eventually I *think* we should be able to do the full sequence without modifications. emoticon

I was able to do the standing/balance poses and the seated poses just fine. But then when it got to abs I was so wasted already I just shut it off. LOL Next Thursday I will do better though and so will you! I'm sure of it. emoticon

Hey, in the same boat, actually posted a pretty pathetic whiny post on my support group thread abut it. My 3rd time doing YogaX today, and it was no better than the first, haha. I did find out one thing though, and Im in the same boat as you (after about the 30th vinyasa, I'm shaking like a mofo in downward dog), once you physically cant do anymore damn vinyasas, skip a little past the halfway point. I didn't figure this out the first 2 times I did YogaX, instead I just got so frustrated I turned the dvd off around the 30min point. But this time I waited it out and around the halfway point they do the "last vinyasa", and after that it is all balance poses. I liked the 2nd half of the DVD MUCH better than the first half. It was challenging, but it was rewarding, and relaxing like I thought Yoga was supposed to be. Besides the crane, and the plow, I was able to do all the moves. And the last 17 min or so even throws in some ab work.

I'm gonna keep at he vinyasa stuff, but it's been 3 weeks now, and I havent seen any improvement in it, so who knows.

Hi there, I have a (dumb) question concerning the Yoga portion of P90X. I only lasted 11 1/2 minutes through and I felt so defeated. Do I continue with Yoga the next day and do the best I can to finish the CD, or do I continue with the next CD after Yoga. I felt cheated that I didn't get a complete workout, but man I was so sore and I felt as if my appendages were going to haphazardly fall free from my body. I know I gotta work through the soreness, but my mental won't let me be beaten. Any suggestions please?

I am glad I am not the only one who felt like this. I thought it was just me. My first time doing it I lasted the whole 1hour and 30 min. I was exhausted afterwards and all I wanted to was go to sleep. I am on the second phase of P90X and I am not quite that exhausted as the first day but I still do me bad (in a good way). I am getting stronger and my poses are better than before, not great though. I am now starting to incorporate some full pushups in the downward dog/plank move. I sweat like crazy. My girlfriend who does not do P90X let alone exercise says it's only Yoga. Clearly this is not your gym membership yoga.

Hi Fellman, I asked the same thing when I went through Power 90, and was told do what you can that day. If its 10 minutes, then pause or stop. Tomorrow forget that day and do the next workout. Next week you can seek revenge and push past the 11 minute mark.

This is new for your body, when it tells you its done then you have to push a little more ( Tony said something like 'People tend to give up too early', and I'm as guilty as the next person) , however if your sacrificing form then its time to pause or stop for the day. As long as you pump out one more rep, 1 more minute, or 1 more pound each week, then you've bettered yourself a little more.

Hope that helps!
