Insanity 60 days... True or false?
fat burn 2 month results
2/1/13 1:55 AM
Hi……

I’m starting my 5th week of insanity on Monday……

I have seen minor results….

I train very hard, always till failure and my diet is immaculate including my recovery formula.

I haven’t cheated and I haven’t missed a day, I’m always dripping with sweat and I’m out of breath… so I know I’m putting the work in.

But the truth is…. With 5 or 6 more weeks left!! I can’t see me cutting up by the end of this program…. Or 60 days…..

I’m 6ft2 started at 200 lbs with about 25% body fat, am I too big in the first instance for this program.

I’m starting to become a bit disillusioned, because I know I’m not cheating myself, so I’m looking for advice because I’m committed to gaining a better healthy lifestyle…..

Hope you can help.

You definitely don't sound 'too big'. Don't be discouraged. What kind of improvement have you seen so far? I've been doing Beachbody programs for about 5 months now and I have dropped 32 pounds, starting at 207. I closely track my caloric intake using MyFitnessPal and burns for my workouts with a heart rate monitor. If you aren't doing those two things, I do recommend it. Do you have an idea of how many calories you are consuming in a given day? I'd be happy to help you calculate out a good target if you have not.

I started out at very close to 30% body fat and didn't harbor any illusions that I would get 'ripped' with just my first program with that as my starting point. However, being around 14-15% body fat now and on the cusp of having that 6 pack my best advice for you is to just keep going. If you are trying to permanently change your appearance and health you can't think of it as just 60 days. It is more about making long term lifestyle changes going forward.

Do you have established goals and targets you are shooting for?

So far I have gained far greater chizzled upper body "chest up" however I used to play semi pro soccer and weight lifted religiously to improve muscle mass.... My area of concern is my gut and love handles.... like everyone I guess, but I’m just not seeing any improvements yet... I’m strict with the calorie intake, at 1500 cals per pay, with lean protein in each meal. I don't manage my heart rate, but I can tell I’m always in an anaerobic zone... my goal is 10% body fat, luckily I have a lot of muscle memories and find it very easy to bulk muscle, but this gut malarkey is getting in my head.... I think I can see what might be happening. You are eating about 1500 calories a day while doing the program AND lifting and playing soccer. Looks like you are not eating nearly enough when I did the program I was 5'9" and 155 lbs. I was eating 2600 calories a day because I wanted to maintain my weight and I still lost 5 lbs. Eating too few calories will cause your body to go on defense and not burn what you are giving it as fuel because it thinks it will not get enough and will slow down your metabolism and fat burn. If you have a nutrition guy on the team you might want to check with him and let him know you are doing INSANITY as well as playing. If you don't have a guy with the team I would go back to the INSANITY nutrition guide and crunch the numbers again for calorie needs. Then add a few to make up for the soccer and lifting.

Hope this helps feel free to buddy me and reach out any time.

Yeah, like CoachBumpusBurn says, you certainly are not eating enough. That may sound counter-intuitive to eat more to lose weight, but I think that is what you need to do. On average I'm burning 400-600 calories a workout and I am eating between 2100-2300 calories a day.

Your body is trying to hold on to fat because it thinks it is starving! emoticon You are definitely eating below your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) which is generally NOT healthy. As a basic guideline, most data I have seen does not recommend men EVER eat below 1800 calories a day. You should easily bump your calories up 500, and probably much more depending on how much exercise you are getting and how many calories you are burning. If you let me know how old you are I can give you a better idea of where you should be.

Sounds like you are way under eating. Also remember that the LAST place you will lose body fat is in the areas you have seen the least improvement. Increase your calories by nearly 1000, and you should start to see some improvement. I am guessing your metabolism is shutting down and you are probably losing muscle mass.

Hi! Great job on getting to month 5. I know it can be frustrating when you don't see the results you want. If you are eating well and doing the workouts it will come. Most people see the best results in month 2. Everyone is different and I can take more than one round to see really awesome results. Have you taken measurements to see your progress? Pictures? Sometimes we don;t see changes until we compare before & after.

Are you tracking your nutrition? Eating enough? Using a heart rate monitor?

Happy to help! Keep pressing Play!!

Cheers,
Christina

I thought it might be helpful to give you something specific you can work with, so here goes...You say you are 200 pounds and you live an active lifestyle. Using the calorie calculator, you need to multiply your body weight times 14 to get your, "maintenance" calorie needs, then you need to add another 600 to compensate for the Insanity program. By my math, that adds up to 3,400 calories. Since you are trying to lose some weight, you need to shoot for 500 calories less than that, giving you a daily need of 2,900 calories. Basically to see significant improvements, you need to be eating the 500 calorie option in your nutrition plan, and add a few additional "blocks" everyday. You sound like you are really dedicated to this, so I am betting you will get it done. Good luck!

Also, I wanted follow up with another thought I had here along the lines of your food intake. You are eating very low calories and mention you are eating plenty of lean protein (that is good) but it makes me wonder if you are over restricting fats as well. Remember, even though you are trying to lose fat, your body still needs it. If you go too far on the low intake spectrum there, that will also hinder your ability to lose fat. Again, because your body will want to try to retain it. Do make sure you are keeping adequate levels of 'good' fat in your diet. My breakdown for protein-carbs-fat ratio tends to be in the vicinity of 35-40-25 respectively. The protein percent could be higher and the carbs could be lower, but the fat shouldn't go too much below those levels.

Hope that helps.

I exploded my left ACL 3.5 years ago. Martial arts. Man did that suck. Felt like my leg opened up like a Pez dispenser. I had the hamstring tendon replacement so my hamstring in that leg isn't quite what it used to be, but my knee is about 95% functional to what it once was.

For the heart rate monitor, look for one that will allow you to track your calorie burns. You can get ones fairly inexpensive ($35) that will do the job. They get much more expensive from there with features that will allow you to synchronize with apps and so forth, but that can be a little overkill. The one I use requires that I intermittently put my finger on it for a couple of seconds to get a reading, which can be an inconvenience in the middle of a workout so I will probably upgrade mine at some point.

I currently eat a lot of fish, chicken and turkey....

And CLA supplement to aid omega 3, and essential fats.... I've completely cut sugar however that was the hardest thing for me....

Should I be doing more road runs in the morning and no weight training?

Regards

Buy Insane Abs. Do it 3 times per week RIGHT AFTER your scheduled workout. Bet you see a result. And occasionally, one of your meals.

I wouldn't add in any running until you bump your calories, but once you do that, feel free to do so as long as you have good energy and don't feel like you are overtraining. I think that is one of the biggest things when people first start. People are so amped up to get fit, and then either burn themselves out or injure themselves. Be smart in your approach. As a previous semi-pro athlete, you probably have a good feel though for how much you can and can not push your body. Listen to what it tells you. When you feel like you need a rest, take it.

I did Insane Abs a few times right after my month 1 discs. I came really close to throwing up on more then one occasion.

The next morning, abs look like cobble stones.

Running or weight training both are pretty good exercise so either or depending on your preference. From what I've read and what everybody have told you your calories are low. What some bodybuilders use to calculate the amount of calories is the multiply their body weight by 15 and that will be the average daily caloric intake. So you are about 200lbs x 15 = 3000 calories a day, so I would put your average around 2500-2800.

It's good to see that you are getting a good amount of omega 3, but remember to much of one fat isn't always that good, I'm not saying its bad but try to get an equal amount of omega 6 (that is if you are omitting it from your diet).

When you doing moves in Insanity make sure you engage your core and use your core to help move the legs, if you haven't done so already and another thing is you said early that you lost about 30+ lbs already than the last couple of lbs to go is going to be the hardest, just don't be discourage and keep moving forward.
