I'm a male, 163 lbs, 5'11 tall. When i started doing insanity, i just stuck to eating my own things, which wasn't a lot. i think i averaged about 900-1k calories / day and 60g protein max? And i lost weight like crazy. By that i mean i went from about 206ish - 160 in a month and a half.

Anyway, i was told i needed to get more protein and carbs in, so I started following the nutrition guide that comes with insanity. everything spot on to it, with the exception of Shakeology which i can not afford. I had to stop insanity for a while, and just restarted on month 1, following said nutrition guide. well since i switched from low calories/protein to this insanity nutrition guide, I've been gaining weight back. and not in muscle. i mean weight that i can visibly see in the mirror, without having to step onto a scale to know that i gained it.

Following insanity guide I'm (on average) 125carbs, 115cal, 44g fat.
now this might not be dead on, but it's pretty cloe to that 40-40-20 ratio.

any suggestions on what i can do to stop gaining weight (the bad kind, don't mind if it's muscle).

ps, i also do Les Mills Pump along with insanity

How many calories are you eating? If your only eating 115 grams of protein that isnt enough nor is 125 carbs. Seems like your not eating enough to me. Also how clean are you actually eating. If you dont keep it clean you will not lose weight or fat! If you need assistance id be happy to help you!

Hi John, After you were in 160 , why did you started eating more? you were not losing weight anymore? How much are you eating now in calories?

i was told i needed to eat more protein and calories. I eat about 1500 calories a day at the moment

Hi John, sorry about the late response.

I quickly crunched your numbers. Yes basically if you eat too low while working out you will eventually get to a plateu in your weight, and your body will begin "eating" muscle mass, and we don't want that. You might me gaining weight because you were too long in a 1,000 calories diet, so your metabolism is slower. Now you began eating more and with a slow metabolism you will gain weight faster than before. My advise is to eat a little more, about 1,700 (that is what your body needs MINIMUM to work properly), you might gain a few more pounds until your metabolism is fast again (do not store fat), then you will begin losing weight and gain lean mass from the workout. You can go up to 2,100 and still lose weight.
