Modified ab ripper
Modified ab ripper

I just started my second week of p90x but I'm struggling with ab ripper x. After a couple surgeries on my lower back (pilonidal) I've built up scar tissue near my tailbone that makes rolling over my tailbone really painful.

Are there excercies worthy of ab ripper x I can substitute for (crunchy frog, wide leg sit ups, etc) where I don't have to use my tailbone as a pivot point?

Thats a tough one. Have you ever thought about trying to pad you that area up a bit or use a yoga mat while doing the moves? Not sure if that would even help but it might relieve some of the pain. Just a thought...

Are you able to do good old crunches? Is so that could work for crunchy frog as it will work the same muscle group, as for the wide leg sit ups perhaps a second set of the heals to heaven?

May want to think about some of these.

Standing drills that work the abs such as

Jumping in place, lifting your knees up towards your chest
Running in place, alternating knee lifts while contracting your upper body to your knee
From push up plank position, alternating wide leg mountain climbers or inside mountain climbers.

Any other variation that works your abs would work. There are probably hundreds that would work. Just find something that works for you. The entire point is to work you abs as hard as you can. When you find something that works for you, you will be more likely to keep doing it and not have to worry about hurting something.

Stay Motivated!
