I feel full & bloated in the morning
This is such an interesting thing that has been happening to me for the past 3 months. My latest meal in the evening is at 7 or 8 pm and I sleep exactly 3 hours after that. My sleeps are full of rest and relaxation, therefore, I feel very healthy. Yet, I cannot put my head around why I feel full and almost bloated in the morning after I wake up; I do not feel like I want to eat or drink anything and I have to wait an hour or so before I start feeling hungry.

What's that about and how can I turn it around?

I'm not sure about why you're feeling bloated in the morning, but I can tell you for certain that there's nothing wrong with not wanting/needing to eat when you wake up. That's perfectly normal and totally fine.

Perhaps, to solve the issue of why you're bloated, you can list your food choices at dinner time and we can try to identify a problem. Usually it's a food sensitivity issue; like an intolerance to dairy or gluten, etc.

Let's have a look and see what we can find.

Hey Bandit,

Thanks for the response. Actually I looked more into it. It's not bloating. It's more like feeling full. Just like I typed, as if I do not want to eat. Interestingly enough, the moment I go for my morning hour walk, I start to feel hungry.

Could it be that the body requires movement? Or could it be that my body needs an extra hour from rest/sleep to become hungry?

My evening's macro's are primarily vegetables, lean meats, and complex carbs. Something like 1 chicken breast with a cup of vegetables and half a cup of beans, for example.

Does this help?

Tigerstyle, thanks for clarifying. The difference between bloated and full is an important one. I'm guessing that you're just waking up with plenty of nutritional energy from your healthy meal the night before. Count yourself as lucky to not wake feeling famished. Since you know how to jump start your hunger if you want or need to eat, I don't seen any problems here.

This is perfectly normal...there is absolutely nothing wrong with waiting to eat.

I usually wake up around 5 or 6 a.m., and it's not uncommon for my first meal to be some time between 11 a.m. and noon. I've never had any issues, and I doubt you will either.

Do what feels right.

I have the same problem, I am NEVER hungry when I wake up. I work night shift 3 days a week so that doesn't help either. Somedays I am up and 8am, but after my nights its more like 1pm.

I have found though that if I eat something small, 1/2 a banana, or a yogurt, or shakeology. I am STARVING the rest of the day.

I try to eat something small though so I get my metabolism started which is probably why I am starving.

Otherwise if I waited till I was hungry it could be 3-6 hours till I ate after waking up

There is no biological need to do this...actually, your metabolism will be higher if you don't eat vs. if you do, so if you're not hungry, don't eat.

Check it out:

Resting energy expenditure increases in early starvation

Starvation led to considerable alterations in basal metabolism including a significant (mean 3.6%) increase in resting metabolic rate

Fasting induced acute changes in biomarkers of metabolic, cardiovascular, and general health

Increased meal frequency does not promote greater weight loss

When meal frequency is decreased without a reduction in overall calorie intake, modest changes occur in body composition, some cardiovascular disease risk factors, and hematologic variables

Wait until you are hungry and eat a nice, big, balanced meal of whole foods...you'll feel much fuller throughout the day, and your metabolism will actually benefit.

Hope that helps.
