Maintaining Muscle While Doing Insanity
Hey All

So I just got the Insanity workout and currently i'm in the process of bulking. Currently 6ft 180 lbs. Can anyone tell me a good way to maintain my gains from bulking while i do insanity to cut? I was thinking of weight lifting like this:

day 1: Chest/Back
day 2: ply cardio circuit
day 3: Shoulder/Legs
day 4: Cardio Recovery
day 5: Biceps/Triceps
day 6: Cardio Power & Resistance
day 7: off

My nutrition would be:

Lifting Days: High Carbs/High Protein
Insanity Days: Decent Carbs (especially before I do my routine)/High Protein

All criticism is wanted.

Thanks

Make sure you are eating enough calories. Just be in a slight slight deficit for the cut. I like your schedule too. Looks like you got the right idea!

I think there's a serious flaw in your approach.

If you're bulking, you need to drop Insanity; it's about 800 calories worth of burning 2 times each week that works 180-degrees opposite of your goal.

If you want to bulk, your best approach is to lift heavy weights 3x per week and limit cardio work to sprints once/week, all while eating about 200-300 calories per day over your maintenance level. Then, once you want to cut, you drop your calories to 500 per day below maintenance and add a second day of sprinting or 1 day of long cardio to the mix (actually, your above schedule might be okay for the cut, just make sure you eat enough and take rest days when you feel beat). Doing what you're doing now and hoping to put on weight is futile; I tried it and all I did was get frustrated.

As for diet, I'd eat high protein/high carbs on lifting days, and high protein/high fat on rest days while you're bulking. When you want to cut, I'd switch to high protein/moderate carbs on lifitng days and stay with high protein/high fat on rest days.

That's what I did, and in a 4 month bulk/cut cycle I was able to shed 2 % body fat and add about 5 lbs.

Hope that helps.

Sorry for the confusion. I will not be bulking during insanity. The only reason I will be lifting during insanity is to simply retain muscle mass. I will start insanity once i finish my bulk.

I like your schedule, as was mentioned above. It's mostly going to be in what you eat so just keep that in mind.
