Breast cancer GONE...starting anew :)
Breast cancer GONE...starting anew :)
breast cancer

Hi all! My name is Stephanie--I am 38, a mom to two gorgeous little girls, and a devoted wife. My husband and I are also Beachbody coaches, and have been such for a few years now. We love living a healthy lifestyle/working out/eating clean.

The day before Thanksgiving 2012, we found out that I had breastcancer in my left breast. One area was non-invasive, the other WAS invasive. On 12/28/12, I underwent a double masectomy and a lymph node removal (on my left side). Recovery has been...well, a pain in the butt, to say the least. I have gone from 19-25% body fat, and lost 7lbs of muscle--bleh!!

Right now, I have tissue expanders in my chest, placed under my pecs, in preparation for breast reconstruction. I started working out again last week, but understandably, i have to be careful. I'm a hardcore HIIT girl--this 'taking it easy' is killing me, but i'm being good and taking it easy.

Is there anyone else out there that has gone through this? IS going through this? I'd love to share inspiration with anyone out there! emoticon

Hey Steph,

I am not going through this but my mom and grandmother did. You are an inspiration girl, keep up the good work and I'm glad that everything has worked out for you and you are healthy again!

Thanks, Tiff! It's been quite the journey. I am SO ready to get rollin' again! I have my exchange (tissue expanders to real implants) on March 1st!

SURELY i'm not the only one here! emoticon But if i am, that's okay. I had my last major surgery on 3/1--got my tissue expanders out, and the real implants in. I worked out (carefully) today, and feel FABULOUS!! i'm ready to kick butt and take names!

Hi Steph ~
You are not going thru this alone, I just got back from my last day of week 2 of radiation treatments (4 more weeks to go)
I had my surgery on January 10th and started radiation February 28th. I too gained a bit of weight and lost motivation and like you was pretty sore, especially the lymph node area!
I started slim in 6 last week and am amazed at how much better I feel, also making a very good effort to eat top 2 tiers of Michi's Ladder. It's a crappy hand to get dealt but I am trying to stay positive and healthy going thru radiation and so far so good!
Keep moving forward and keep your chin up!! We WILL get thru this!!!

Yay Monique!!! emoticon

Did your nodes come back clean?

I had my exchange surgery on 3/1--started working out again last Tuesday. It's...weird. The implants under the muscle make everything feel so different! I still haven't even tried to do a pushup--have to admit--I'm scared. emoticon It's been quite the ride, and I don't want to try to do anything too quickly.

My left side (where the lymph node was removed) is STILL sore--as is the left side, in general. The right side (which had no cancer, but they removed my breast anyways for future worries) feels alright, but i had to have some 'pocket' work done when the doctor did the exchange, so it's a bit sore underneath.

I've been doing my own mix of things for the time being, but i think i'm going to give Insanity another shot and see if I can handle it right now.

I'm so, so happy to 'hear' that you feel much better after starting Slim in 6!! It's amazing what these workout endorphins can do to your mind and body! And going through radiation--YOU GO GIRL!! Way to push through it! I'm amazed with you already. And...I agree with the 'crappy hand' comment...but you know what?? We're going to be better, and stronger by the time we're completely healed!

WOO HOO!

Hi Steph~
Thanks for getting back to me - it's SO nice to have support!! I'm still plugging along staying very positive and working out as regularly as possible and sticking with a good clean diet. My lymph nodes did come back clean which was a huge relief! And I am still a bit numb at the lymph node incision and under my arm a little but it's slowly coming around. And only 3 more weeks of radiation to go yay!! I am so happy with my medical/oncology team and my support team!! You included :-) Amazing how if you stay focused and find the good in it how strong and positive you feel. I decided that I am somehow gonna use this to make myself a better, stronger person.
I'm impressed that you're even thinking of Insanity!! That's an ass kicker! I'm still on Ramp It Up but gonns give Burn It Up a shot next week - woohoo!!
I joined your facebook page so we can keep tabs - thanks for you words of encouragement and you're right we are SO gonna be better and stronger!!!!!
