Super Low Energy Level - Exhausted after 3 excersizes
Showing 19 results.
Hi guys, I just started P90x this week. First couple of days went okay, but now my energy level is super low. When I start a workout, I'm practically exhausted and out of breath after 3 exercises.

I have been sticking to fat shredder Level 1 religiously this week and I am using the Energy and Endurance pre-workout drink as well. But I am shot really quickly into the workout and need to take extensive breaks. It turns the hour workout into forever.

Is there anything I can do to increase my energy, so I can finish the workout and go through it at a decent pace, like Tony and the other people in the videos?

Thanks very much!

Well, it's your first week and P90X is hard! A lot of us couldn't do it like the people in the videos right after the 2nd round of P90X. Your body is getting shocked by different nutrition and workouts so you are going to feel beat up the first 1 or 2 weeks.

Its great that you are sticking to the nutrition plan. Just be sure you are eating the right amount calories you need. And have 8 bottles of water (16 oz) daily. Have a recovery drink afterwards.

Shoot any other questions.

You're a perfect candidate to move up from the Fat Shredder.
You simply need more carbs.

I know I'm going to feel beat up and I have been trying to keep hydrated too, but its hard when the one hour workout takes like 3 hours because I'm dead tired.

I dont have much fat at all on me except for some around the waist, which is why I started on the fat shredder. If I move up to Phase II of nutrition, can I still lose the little extra I have around the waist?

According to my scale, I am at 10.6% body fat, but its all around my waist, it looks like a mini-gut, and I would really like my abs to show emoticon

Abs should show at 10% body fat , if you are taking your measure at around your waist for the body fat, then you are not 10%, how are you taking your measure?

You will need to eat CLEAN to melt that fat, 50 proteins/30 carbs/20 fat. How much calories are you eating now? give me your age/weight/height.

I am using the EatSmart Precision GetFit Digital Body Fat Scale. I bought it on Amazon, its got really good reviews.

I am eating 1800 calories from the Level 1 Fat burner plan. I have a food scale and weight everything out exactly. I do eat the bar, and recovery drink too.

I am 45 years old, 145 pounds, and 5 feet, 8 and a half inches tall.

I would tell you to lower your calories to 1,500 but your energy levels are too low and you just started P90X. So do the following: Keep at 1,800 for 2 more weeks and see what happens. There are not really 1+1 = 2 rules in nutrition and every body is different. You just learn to listen to your body. It's too soon to make an informed decision , as you are 3 days out of 90 from the program.

Its hard to complete the works out when they run so long because I need so many breaks.

So any suggestions to improve my energy level?

Richie, basically the energy comes from Carbs. Up the calories at 2,000 for 1 week. Let the body adapt, this changes don't happen overnight. The other option is to get out of fat shedder and go to the 40/40/20 level at the same 1800 calories.

Rich, you can try diet changes and it may help a bit but to be hones,t this program will kick your butt for a while yet. I started when i was 48 (3 1/2 years ago) so I can feel your pain! lol
The thing to remember is to just show up and keep pushing yourself. Don't try to compete with the group on the tv, compete only with yourself. Try to do just a very tiny bit more each time. That is when your results happen, but it takes time.
And try not to look in the mirror every day because you will not see anything change. Try to look Day 1, Day 30, Day 60 & Day 90,but even then, the changes might be discreet and may take a good eye. The real question to ask yourself at those stages is how you "feel".
What you really want to do with this program is just get your body used to this extreme style of exercise (but never sacrifice form) and make it part of your life.
It should really be more then a 90 day bootcamp. The results will show, but it's kind of like watching grass grow, paint dry or water boil.... the longer you watch the longer it takes.

Thanks Fog5, I really appreciate it. That's great advice, I will make sure I follow it.

I'm coming off the Power 90 program and that did kick my butt too in the beginning. We both started this in our 40s, I wish I would have discovered this years ago. I actually lost 30 lbs. on the Power 90, I just have this stubborn area around my waist that's left that I'm trying to get rid of, and of course get healthy and fit and build some muscle.

I took an addition two servings of 100% whole grain bread and that really did the trick. I was able to finish the workout with some normal breaks in between, instead of gassing out and being completely spent after 3 exercises. I will have to play with that and see if one serving works, but at least I know it was a lack of carbs now.

That sounds good, whatever it takes to get you to keep going, do it. Just don't get into excuse mode, that's a killer and easy to do.
I did forget to mention in my last post an important item that needs to be shared. These boards are filled with posts that:
a can't finish the workouts, what's wrong?
b can't see results after 30 days.
(I would add a third about the high cost of Shakeology but that's another matter! lol)
To some degree, I do fault BB with these because of all the examples they show where you can see some really fantastic results after short periods of time. Now let me state clearly,
I think it is possible to accomplish the same but it is far, very far, from common.
I understand that they are marketing to our quick fix society desires but the fact is
most people are like you and I and will have initial trouble just completing programs and
it will take much more time for us to reshape our bodies and see the great results.
What i do really appreciate about BB is that they educate you, be it through the explanations on the videos, or the way above average support that includes un-edited boards like this, so you really gain an understanding of what it takes and what you have to do as a long term solution.

now if only they could get the cost of shakeology down ....... eh eh ....

Cheers!

I agree with what everyone else has said. In addition, I would recommend eating a lot of fruit in between your main meals. Apples, berries, etc. This will provide you with the energy needed. Plus, fruits and vegetables are essentially calorie neutral, meaning what you take in calorie wise, your body will burn digesting them. Hard to eat enough fruit that the body will end storing some as fat. Especially since you aren't sedentary.

Fog, I definitely wont get into excuse mode. Power 90 was, sad to say, pretty hard for me when I first started. I had an IT job and was overweight and out of shape emoticon So I'm very happy with those results.

I don't have unrealistic expectations, I know it will take a while to see results and I'm okay with that. Its nice to just be able to complete these exercises better and feel healthier. I do wish I could lose the little belly fat I have left though! I'm very self conscious about that, especially since I'm lean everywhere else. But I think that's going to take some experimentation with eating the 1800 calories and some additional carbs on top of that so I have enough energy to do the workout. I "bonked" according to the nutrition book, pretty badly!

Do you recommend the shakeology? As you said its super expensive. I've been making my own shake in the morning and taking the Mega Man multi vitamin.

Thanks so much for all your help!

Jay,
I'm completely sedentary when not working out. Have a desk job from 9 to 5 unfortunately emoticon

Yes, but doing these intense workouts causes you to burn a lot of calories until the next workout, so eating a lot fruit and other things suggested will be used by your body. Most of us aren't elite athletes. The most movement and exercise is done in the hour during the workouts. The other 23 are as critical to successful results. So, good nutrition during the recovery time is when you obtain your results. The workouts are just the catalyst that start the process.

Ok Ritchie, just keep pushinig play. Challenge yourself only. Spot reducing is not possible so you just have to keep working hard and the results will come. Try not to concentrate so much on the areas that bother you so much as the areas you feel really good about. In the end, we all have to be comfortable in our own skin. I read allot of posts from women who are are really concerned about this and it is sometimes very sad and probably says much more about other issues. Be proud of even your minor accomplishments as even what you are doing know is more then probably 80% of the population.

Re. shakeology... I would never "reccomend" anything! lol..... Suggest maybe ;)
Shakeology is a very good product. When I buy it, I use it as a meal replacement and snack.
It also addresses my chocholate urges very well and I love the taste.
But.... it's so damn expensive!!! Many posts on this. People will try to get you
to become a coach so you can get a discount (remember though, coaches pay monthly fees
so the savings is not that much) but it doesn't address the real issue and that is
the cost of the product verses other similar products (taste being subjective).
So my purchases of the product are limited to special occasions or "treats".
I don't understand why BB doesn't take the approach of lowering the price significantly
enabling them to basically flood the market.
