week 2 no results?
week 2 no results?
2/10/13 2:36 PM
Hi everyone! I have a question for anyone who may have experienced this or who can offer some guidance?
I purchased Insanity and I just finished week 2. On Monday I will be starting week 3. Here's my concern. I gave both weeks 100% effort, so much so that the first week I couldn't sit down I was so sore lol. I have followed through with all workouts each day and though I do feel clearly stronger (muscle strength), I have yet to see any droppage in weight in the mirror. I have been sore (some days worse than others) every single day in different parts of my body since I started so I must be doing something right?

Now I do have to say, I normally wouldn't expect anything drastic or even noticable in two weeks, but from seeing so many other peoples photos, I think I'm doing something wrong. They show a starting photo, and by the second week there's certainly results. I don't see that with myself.

I am so discouraged I could cry. I'm not going to stop or anything but with all the effort I am putting in my diet and the workouts it's discouraging that I am not getting results like other people. Everyone's different, sure, but so many people are seeing results even after two weeks. So, I'm thinking it's my diet...let me know if anyone sees a problem in the following diet I consume:

breakfast- small cup of coffee with a small amount of powder cream and a spoon of sugar. Plus a bannana
mid-afternoon- 1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese with a table spoon jam, and one piece of turkey bacon. 1 cup veggies
afternoon- sandwich (whole grain bread, no mayo, no cheese) with 2 slices deli meat, lettuce, mustard. 4 strawberries, or a small piece of fruit.
mid evening- 1 cup turkey chili, 1/2 cup fruit
evening- 3 oz chicken (cooked without butter or oil)- consumed plain, with 1/4 cup potatoes, 1/2 cup veggies.

I have also replaced evening meal with stir fry (cooked without butter or oil) with veggies and 3 oz. beef strips and a little terriyaki soy sauce.

I mean thats pretty much what I've been eating. I don't get it emoticon

Usually the first week or two you will be in an adaptive phase. If you don't lose weight you should lose inches. Have you see this in you? If not you will need to provide more information to give you an informed opinion. Age/weight/size/ goals/ how many calories are you eating?

Just got done reading an article on the site...it could be a couple of factors in this article.

I'm 5'3", 190 lbs, and have a desk job during the week. I think maybe I am not giving myself enough time. Eventually if I stick with it I'm sure I will start seeing results.

Hey Alooman,

First of all, don't give up. You are pretty early in the program, and Rome wasn't built in a day.

Did you take before pics? You will find that your body will change-reshape, get more toned and leaner throughout the program-so you will see results--but the scale won't necessarily show it. In fact, one of my team members just posted today on my thread that he was so discouraged b/c he had only lost a couple of pounds recently--(like you are feeling) yet his fit test results were amazing AND he had lost MAJOR inches off of his body. The scale is NOT the only or best way to measure your progress. Remember, muscle weighs more than fat, so you may be building muscle and burning fat--which won't show up on the scale. Especially with those lunges/squats etc. Another one of my team members did P90X and her before and after pics were noticeably different--her after pics were amazing--yet her weight did not change one pound. So, rather than driving yourself crazy with the scale, focus on performing your best, eating right, and by the end, your body will have changed. Trust me.

As far as your diet--I would say that you need to eat a different breakfast. A cup of coffee and a banana will not give you the boost that you need. EVERY meal needs to have a lean source of protein and a good carb (starchy--oatmeal, sweet potatoes, brown rice, or veggies). So for breakfast you might want to opt for a big bowl of oatmeal and some egg whites. (as an example) This will boost your metabolism and ensure that your blood sugars stay leveled out. I'm never a big fan of bacon of any kind--it's loaded with salt which will make you retain water. Also, check out the Harris Benedict Equation to figure out how many calories you need. It could also be a case where you aren't eating enough. (You don't want to go into starvation mode, and your body needs the good fuel). Click here for the Harris Benedict Page. So, take a few minutes and make sure that you are eating enough--especially protein. For Insanity you want to have a protein/carb/fat ratio of 40/40/20 and many ppl are often low in protein. www.myfitnesspal.com is a great way to track not only your calories but also ensure that your ratios are correct.

And above all, do not give up. Don't compare yourself to others--this is your journey alone. You will see success--and just b/c it doesn't happen over night it doesn't mean that it won't happen.

And finally, if you are looking for a supportive group, please join my thread! I have posted a ton of info that you might find interesting, and we have a great group of ppl logging in every day. It's nice to connect with others--so you know you aren't alone in this. Click here to check it out!

And to close, here is a pic that compares fat to muscle---something to think about!

Best of luck!

I'm a newbie here, but my first thought was that you're not getting enough calories. How many per day does it add up to?

Alooman,
Yes, be patient. Are you following the nutritional guide that came with Insanity? Maybe you should also keep count or write down what you are eating, from what you have posted, you might be short of some calories, so your body could be possibly trying to hold on to what it has because it feels it's not getting enough. But be patient. Have a family member or friend take a picture of you. They could possibly see a change that you are not seeing because you see yourself everyday.

Good Luck with your Insanity. Would love to see some after photos...

Good post by Coach Zarno,

She is right on the money! Give it sometimes, keep working hard and you will get results.
Not sure what program your doing but most of them come with a very easy to follow meal plan.

Stay with it, you did the hard part....getting started!

Thank you so much for all your help, and thank you to the coaches for going so much in depth. I think #1 I need to take pictures--so I just got done doing that. #2-I will start writing my cal intake instead of guestimating. #3- I need to recalculate my cal. and take measurements. I figured I'd just see the results in the mirror but maybe thats not the best way to go lol. Thanks so much!

You'll be so glad you have taken your pic's! Weather your looking at them 60 days, 90 days or even a year from now you'll be glad you have them! Plus once you reach your goals it will help you share your story with others. Trust me your going to want toemoticon
Once you have your cal intake down it becomes soooo much easier and you can always make adjustments. Sounds like your on the right path now!

Enjoy your Monday
