Hit a plateau
Hit a plateau

Hey everyone,

I've been working through P90X for awhile now, Day 50/Yoga today and having a bit of a problem. I seem to have stopped losing weight or any inches off my waist about 3 weeks ago and can not seem to progress. I don't think I'm eating too little or too much, averaging about 1800 or 1900 calories a day.

In about the first month I went from 250 down to 235 and have more or less stayed there since. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Kocin,

Have you maintained your calories that you started with? As you lose weight, your caloric requirements go down as well.

Also, do you wear a heart rate monitor to track your calories burned? As you get into better shape, you will start having to work harder to burn the same amount of calories.

Try upping the intensity of your workouts, and add 100-300 calories to your daily consumption for a week, or take away 100-200 from your consumption for a week. This should jump start your metabolism. At my weight, 255, I need to eat about 2000 a day to lose weight. They also need to be quality calories (whole, natural foods) in the right ratios.

Hope this helps you out bud, feel free to shoot me a PM or friend request if you have any more questions, I'd love to help you hit your goals!

I'll give that a try, I've been keeping it about the same calories throughout, didn't think about needing to bump it up over time.

I know for me, my baseline BMR is about 3200 calories. I have a reasonably active job, and in order to stay out of starvation mode I need to keep my calorie intake pretty high, especially since in some P90X and Asylum workouts I am able to burn as much as 1200 calories.

During my last big loss, I plateaued at 242, and looking back, I know I wasn't getting enough calories. It's a rough balance to maintain, but as you learn the signs from your body it will become more instinctive.

It may sound weird but eating more can help you burn more, I've seen it happen many times before. My mom is the perfect example, she wasn't losing anymore I had her track her calories and she was too low, we brought it up she kept losing 4lbs/week, when it stopped I had her go up again another 100, again for a few weeks she lost 4lbs/week. We kept doing this add 100 every plateau and she hasnt stopped losing since.
