Continue Bulking or Beast?
Continue Bulking or Beast?
beast body beast

In a previous post I was given two conflicting opinions. I just started the beast phase and I was told to stick to the program and finish it through by one person, and another told me to continue to bulk for a couple more months and then cut.
I am conflicted and dont know what to do.

My goals are to look great. That obviously means looking buff/muscular but also showing abs, which i can only see very very faintly if i flex hard.

I imagine i will go back on beast or another muscle-focused program after beast in 3 weeks, so does it make sense to go to the beast phase?
Will the beast phase just bring me back to square one, where i started? shed a bit of fat and the muscle gains i've made?
Help would be appreciated please.

You will lose muscle if you cut, since you havent really build that much muscle on 2 months, which is why i recommend you to do a longer bulk.

You shouldnt think about a six pack abs and being buff for 2 years atleast. Building good quality muscle takes time.
You'll get further if you just continue bulking.

Abs on a skinny guy is like tits on a fat chick, it doesnt count.

I think there are a few other factors to take into account:

1) Hitting a plateau: I have seen it mentioned on one these threads that most people stop seeing results at the 6-7 week mark, so if you keep bulking you may need to mix up the routine a bit

2) Getting bored: (related to #1) If you get sick of the routine and your effort dwindles, that ain't going to do you any good

3) Body Fat: Some people don't mind having the extra bf on for extended periods of time. Others might want to shred down a bit for the upcoming summer. It's not like you are going to lose all of the muscle you gained by cutting. You will lose some but not most of it.

Personally I have been going back and forth on whether I want to take a short break and then go back to bulking, or mix things up and do a p90x round to slowly cut a bit before summer. I'll be interested to see others responses.

dsprenger,
This is why i am a bit confused about this program. It seems like after beasting you basically haven't progressed so much, and that you would have been better taking in a bit more cals while doing p90x.

If i beast for another round i'll put on some extra muscle, but then cut again and back to my old weight. This is what's confusing.

You will barelly build any muscle on a 2 month period.

Hgeek23, Usually you can build 0.5 pounds of muscle per week. That means over a 2 month period you can only gain 4-5 pounds of muscle mass and the rest will be fat.

That rule apply to all program, Body beast , P90X ,etc..

They way that i see it, depending on how much mass you gained in the bulk/build phase as long as you didn't gain a lot of body fat i would add more weeks to continue bulking instead of going into the beast phase.

One good way of doing it would be to do the build phase then the bulk phase like the program is meant, at the end of the bulk phase if your body fat is still low i would add 2-3 more weeks to the bulk phase, if after that your body fat is still low i would go back into the build phase for 2-3 weeks and then go into the beast phase. That way you can go for 3-4 months into bulking before going into the cutting phase. That way you can add more muscle mass and then cut it off.

One thing thought, it is not because you go into cutting phase that it means you will lose all the weight you gained, if you have gained 4-5 pounds into bulking, you will not lose 5 pounds in 2-3 weeks while cutting. Unless you have only gained fat and no muscle but if you followed the nutrition plan and did the workouts you will gain muscle mass.

So I now have 16-17 days left of beasting. I should go back to bulking?
If I beast I might get those abs, right? However i guess going back to bulk might get some definition too.

Just a question--the build/tempo workouts seem to me to be longer and/or harder than the bulk ones, why is it then that we do the bulk workouts while bulking?

The choice is up to you but since you already started the beast phase, finish it and knock another round of Beast after.

If you get lean enough, sub 10% you will see those abs.

The tempo workouts in an extra dvd that you can buy to subtitute the build workouts dvds. They are not necessaraly harder than any other workouts, but you can't use a lot of weight as your are holding the weights a lot longer than in a normal set. Tempo set are just different as they focus on the eccentric motion. What i like to call the negative reps. You wont need a lot of weights to feel the burn with these exercices. This is pretty different from any Beachbody program as you don't see these type or exercices in any other program apart P90X which briefly showed one push-up exercice in the chest series which used this technique.

While i really like those tempo workouts and i think it is good to add to your routine, my thought would be that they weren't incorporated in the Bulk series as you want to train 1 muscle at a time to bulk. That why in the bulk serie you do 1 muscle per day and move on to another muscle every day.
