P90X
p90x
7/8/09 8:31 AM
I am looking to start P90X on July 20th emoticon . I've got the program and have been reading through the materials to get myself ready. This will be my first time with a home routine workout so I have to get the dumbbells and chin up bar. Until July 20th I'm continuing with my gym routine of cardio on the treadmill and free weights (a routine I've been circulating since 2006 and am dang tired of!)

Just looking for anyone else who is starting around that date, let me know!

Hi Amanda!

I am starting Round 2 on July 17. Odd day, I know. But it works for my schedule! I did the Lean version the first time around. Are you going to be doing Lean or Classic?

Look forward to comparing notes with you!

Hi girls,
I started p90x about one month ago but stopped because of the pressures of work. I intend to restart on July 13th. I need all the encouragement I can get. I live in Jamaica and am the mother of a 3 year old. Looking forward to doing this thing together.

Hi Tracy!

I am going to be doing Classic for my first round. Very excited to start this, I've been doing the gym workout routine for almost 4 years now and have grown tired of my usual lifting/running workouts. I wasn't even sure I had posted the message correctly, so I am glad to have found someone to check in with!

Any suggestions on which kind to get? I was looking for one in the $30 price range, no higher than $40 if I can help it.

My husband bought mine for me. I don't even know where he got it! I will ask him tonight when he gets home and re-post!

Hi everyone-

I'm new to the site here and I'd love to join the conversation. After months of watching the P90X informercials and being won over by the success stories, I finally took the plunge and ordered the DVD's.

I began on June 25th, two weeks ago today. I started immediately to keep the momentum alive. (I've been skipping rest/stretch days as I still get my stretching in while teaching dance, so I'm actually on day 3 of week three in the workouts.) As a former serious dancer, I was hoping to get rid of the extra gunk on top of the muscle I'm developing, without getting any bulk, so I went with the "P90X Lean" route. I've been following the nutrition plan loosely- just upping my lean protein and cutting WAY back on my carbs (and no sweets, which is really getting hard). Is anyone else looking at the Lean track? I now wonder if I should have just gone for Classic as I'm feeling like Lean was a bit of the easy way to go (not that the workouts are anywhere near easy for me), and I've yet to see any changes in my body. Pretty sure I'm just looking for it too soon. Any words of wisdom?

I'm really looking forward to having some conversations here as I haven't been able to convince my boyfriend or any friends to do P90X along with me!

Welcome Silverslippers! I was also debating on going the Lean route rather than the Classic, but since my boyfriend wanted to do it as well, we just went with Classic. I haven't started the program yet, but I've been running through the workouts just to get the moves down. Tracy, who is also on this feed, finished the Lean recently and is about to start the Classic version...so I would definately ask her for some tips/info about the Lean version.

Amanda - the heart rate monitor that I have is Sportline.

Silverslippers - Welcome and congrats on taking the P90X plunge! I have really enjoyed it, and yes I did the lean version. My last day is next week, then I am starting Classic. I did Lean personally because I still had quite a bit of weight to lose and needed the extra cardio. Now that I have taken that off, I am looking to really define and tone! It sounds like you may be ready to jump right into Classic. I would not worry about bulking up...just use lighter weight with more reps!

Would be more than happy to compare notes and keep up with your progress.

Please feel free to reach out for anything!

Thanks Tracy & Amanda!

I think I might take a page from your book, Tracy, and go through the whole thing Lean first to hopefully lose a little more weight with the extra cardio, and then by that point, I'll hopefully be ready and motivated to take on the Classic. It'll also hopefully give me the chance to get my upper body strength up to par!

I really appreciate your thoughts!

Going out of town camping with the boyfriend's family this weekend, so I'm doubling up on workouts today to try to not miss a beat. I know it doesn't exactly work that way, but I want to make sure not to take a real "day off" before returning Sunday night. Have a great weekend everyone!

Thanks Tracy for the heartrate monitor suggestion.
I have been wondering how to keep on track with workouts too, since it is summer and
weekends tend to involve 2 days away from home. You and Tracy have me re-thinking what version I want to start with. I think I will go with the lean first, and let my boyfriend tackle the classic on his own. I did the plyometric workout the other day, OH MY! Best hour workout I have had in a very very long time, and running 6 miles is the last workout I can compare the Plyo's with. I was able to keep up with them for almost all of the moves - a few of the jumping/sqauting moves I had to take it easy on because my knees didn't seem up for the challenge just yet.

Have a good weekend ladies!

Amanda-

Just a couple of thoughts about what I've been starting to do, which might work for you. First of all, if I'm away for the weekend, I'll try to double up on Friday, and do my Sunday workout whenever I return home. It's tough, but it keeps you on track, more or less.

The other thing I noticed after a couple of weeks is that the Lean version doesn't ever include the Plyo, which seems to be such a staple of the program. I was pretty bummed about this. I've recently decided (and just started) to swap out Yoga X for Plyo, and am considering doing the same occasionally with Cardio, because though Cardio X is hardcore, nothing is a better cardio workout than the Plyo.

Tracy- you've gone through the Lean program- do you have any thoughts about this?

Hope it's going well for everyone.

Hi Amanda,

I also bough a Sportline for about $50 at Wal-mart and reason it was a bit more was that it works with or without the chest strap. Using the chest strap will give you continuous reading versus just using the watch by itself...

Using it I have learned that depending on which workout I am doing I burn anywhere from 500-1000 calories doing P90X so I guess the 600 average they say on manual is not far off.

I use my cals burned to figure out how many calories to eat.

I got the sportsline as well, It was on sale at walmart for 25 bucks, so I could not go wrong. No chest strap just the watch. But there are many online as well. I goggled and the walmart came up. Hope it helps ya.

Tarah,

I actually did swap out the workouts to include Plyo. I subtituted it for the Cario X, and did Plyo instead. I continued to do the Yoga X as suggested. I figured by swapping out Cardio X and Plyo, I was still keeping within my cardio day....but just kicking it up a notch!

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the extra info on the Sports line brand John, appreciate it!

Tarah & Tracy,

After looking over the lean program I was shocked that the plyo workout wasn't included...swaping it in to replace the cardio seems like a good idea. I am brand new to yoga so that workout is a challenge I want to take on to test myself.
Hope you all had a good weekend. Another 100+ degree day here in Texas...good day to stay inside the A/C for a workout!

Week 1, P90X
7/21/09 12:12 PM as a reply to Amanda83.
Just finished day 1 yesterday (7/20).I decided to go with the Classic version and that Chesk & Back workout is intimidating! I did my best to keep up with the push-ups, but some were hard to pull through on. I did most of them from my knees. My bad wrist makes it hard to do the push-ups where you can't use the stands. Right now I take my pull-up bar down and use that as my push up stands, but it's a pain to keep having to put it back on the door during the workout routine. I tried using my dumbells as push up stands, but I think I've just got to build up the strength to make it work right. For the decline push-ups I had to put my knees on the chair, toes was too much I couldn't even get up. I know it will take a while to get used to the dive bomber push ups...I can't even really make it through the motions of it, but hopefully by the next time around I'll have a better chance at it.

That Ab Ripper X afterwards is no joke either!

It's hard to keep up good form while trying to stay on track with the workout, hopefully as I get used to the routine the less "clumsy" I will feel.

Any suggestions on how to tackle the push-ups would be great!

Day1 p90x
9/30/09 11:53 AM as a reply to Amanda83.
Just started today and it feels like I am really struggling to keep up, I fight myself from stopping at the same time I try to pause and re-coupe myself. It's not so much the pull ups as it is the push-ups, just need more work at my push-ups is all (and they do a lot of them in a variety of ways).

Tomorrow is Plyometrics, wish me luck...

p.s.- I still need to upload my before pics from yesterday.
