I want, (not need as my wife says) a new heart rate monitor. It doesn't have to have a chest strap but must display my heart rate without having to press a button. It must also calculate calories burned. Any suggestion?

Thanks for any help.

I need, I mean want one of these also. I found some at wallmart but it did not show calories burned so I did not get it. I think MC Sports has them and they were around $75-$100. I may have to get over there and just buy it because I really need it. I just won't tell the wife.emoticon

I have a polar with a chest strap. I bought it at Dick's sporting goods store a few years ago, and I've never had trouble with it. I think it cost around $40. Nothing fancy...just heart rate. I can also click on the file when I'm done and get a reading of how long I worked out and what my average heart rate was. That's all I need!

Best of luck! I think a heart rate monitor is an essential tool with this program. That along with plenty of sleep, plenty of good fuel to stoke your metabolic fire, and a good amount of water. I know that I'm losing a lot of that water during my workouts in the form of sweat! ;)

I use the Polar f6 it tracks calories burned, Heart rate, Avg Heart rate, Max Heart rate, stores the data. And shows you at what % of your max Hr you were exercising at.

Hey Laddy! I just bought a new HRM last week for INSANITY. I have a Garmin 305 for outside which is great, but inside, it doesn't calculate calories burned. I got a Polar, don't remember the model, but it was $160. Very nice, very happy with it. Check the X WARRIORS thread for the model and stuff. I posted it a few days ago.

Im with you. the one i have tells me the calorie burn, but I have to hold a button for my heart rate. I have adapted to it and hope it holds up for me during Insanity or like you will also be looking for a new one.

Good luck, and let me know what you decide.

No joke, Insanity is sick. Already a week gone and the number 3 & 4 abs decided it's time to start showing. I start my 60 days officially on Monday and should have my six pack by the end. I'm at 11.5 % body fat now so I should be under 10 by the end.
I think the Polar F6 is the way to go.

Hey Bayou, yeah I saw your post but I can't spend that kind of money right now. Wife just back to work and all. We need to catch up on some things and put back into saving what we took out to survive. I was looking to keep it under $100. Off to ebay I go.

April, the thing I don't like about mine is sometimes when I hold the button for heartrate it doesn't pick it up. Also I have to keep hitting it as it doesn't adjust automatically. It was a cheapo to get me started 3 months ago. Time to get something a little better.

Too funny, we must actually have the same one. It can take me several times also. I think that I too will be investing in a new one. Let me know what you find and decided on. I love hearing what everyone has to say so that I can be in the know.

Has anyone tried the one online from Beachbody.com?

I got mine at Walmart. How about you?

The BB.com ones are Reebok. I wonder how they compare to Polar?

I just bought a Polar F4 heart rate monitor todat at MC Sports. It was on sale for $79. Regular price was $99. Here is the link on the Polar website if you want to compare features. It looks like a good one but I have not used it yet. http://www.polarusa.com/us-en/products/fitness_crosstraining/F4/

I just bought the Epulse off Amazon and I love it! It's a continuous HRM without chest strap. You just put it on your forearm like an arm band and you are good to goemoticonemoticon

Hey guys, great thread. I'm gearing up to start Insanity next week after two rounds of P90X. The monitor I've been using for P90X requires the button push and no chest strap, which was fine so far. For Insanity, though, I'm thinking I won't have time to stop to push a button and wait. So, I'm in the market for a new monitor.

I'd love to find one around $50-60. I want continuous monitoring with no button pushing and calorie burn count would be awesome. Any suggestions in this price range?

Thanks!

Allen

Well, after looking at EVERY ONE on Amazon, I went with the Timex T5J031 for $61. Great feature set for the price, and pretty good reviews. Anyone have any experience with it?

HI
I just bought a timex T5G971 from amazon for $51.00 (free shipping) and it counts calories burned! It was recommended
by consumer report and had great user reviews! Make sure it is not T5G941 cos this one doesnt count calories burned!
Can't wait till mine arrives so i can see how many calories I am burning!
