Insanity DVDs, Laptops and Rootkits BAD BAD BAD
I have been a long time member of beachbody. I own P90 P90X and P90X+ ..Some One on One discs etc. I bought Insanity and Im PISSED OFF. I use a laptop to work out because I travel alot. Beachbody went nuts with their "copy" protection. I cant play theses DVDs on any computer let alone my laptop. I own these DvDs and by law I should be able to back them up so I can save the originals. I travel alot and dont want to lose or ruin my original disks.
Also unbeknownst to most of you these DVDs install what is known as a rootkit on your computer. Its a hidden service. It makes it impossible to play these disks on your computer. The only way to get rid of it is to reformat your computer.
This is totally unacceptable and borderline criminal.
I own these DvDs. I cant use them the way I need to.
Dont buy these until they remove this ridiculous invasion.

?? I didn't have this problem at all. I travel regularly for work and in fact the first time I used the DVDs for Insanity was on my laptop last week while on the road. I plan to back up the DVDs on my laptop and also rip them to my Iphone like I did for my P90X DVDs.

Figured I'd add that One on One with Tony Horton - Vol2Disc3: Patience Hummingbird now has the ROVI (Macrovision) protection / rootkit.

 1D:\>dir /a
2Volume in drive D is Patience Yoga
 3Volume Serial Number is 3718-5933
 4
 5 Directory of D:\
 6
 708/06/2009  05:09 PM    AUDIO_TS
 808/06/2009  05:13 PM    VIDEO_TS
 908/06/2009  05:09 PM 49,152  9KMJ9G4I.EXE
1008/06/2009  05:09 PM     32  autorun.inf
1108/06/2009  05:09 PM 24,832  RGASDEV.SYS
123 File(s)         77,684 bytes
132 Dir(s)               0 bytes free

So for those of us who employ devices other than a DVD player to view content (iPod, Zune et. al.). Beachbody/Product Partner is impeding my ability to use what every device I prefer.

Looks like I may be cancelling my subscription if I can't rip the content to my iPhone!

(p.s. Anyone who reads this and uses a Microsoft Operating System. DO NOT use the 'Autorun'. If you are unfamiliar then GOOGLE the terms: "Disable AutoRun" and your version of Windows. I suspect that the 9KMJ9G4I.EXE file shown above is a ROOTKIT as my virus software went CRAZY when I placed the disc in my PC.)

Just to add to the discussion, I got the "blue screen" of death the first time I popped in one of the Month 2 DVDs. Scared the crap out of me. Now I use a portable DVD player instead of my laptop.

I asked directly about this in the Fitness Q&A category and got this reply from Steve:

Our version of piracy protection does not install mines in the user’s computers. There are such softwares, but we don't use them. Our protection schemas simply make it very difficult for the user to make copies.

I have trouble with the Recovery DVD playing segments in the wrong order sometimes on my dvd player, and if you hunt around newsgroups you will find people claiming part of the copy protection scheme has to do with non-standard information in the "table of contents" files of the DVD. (I have never run the DVDs on my computer). So I suspect this is part of the copy protection that Steve refers to.

But it is troubling that your virus protection programs reports issues with the DVD.

It is also a shame that honest people cannot make backup copies. Of course, anyone that really wants to pirate the disks will be able to find info on how to do it using one of the tools and newsgroups that are out there. It only takes one person to do so and post the info. So copy protection ends up hurting the honest customers the most.

It is, of course, very good advice to turn off auto play.

Yea sure, it also makes it very difficult for the user to WATCH IT PERIOD!!! I'm really mad about this. I'm in the military and live in the barracks. All I have is my laptop. I paid extra money just to have insanity rushed delivered to Hawaii where shipping and handling already costs more. I paid about $30+ for shipping and handling. I waited until today to start so that I could be on track with the calendar. All of this just to find out that it doesn't even work on my laptop. I've wasted so much time today just trying to figure out how to get the dvd to play. I could have been out on a run or at the gym. Every minute and day is valuable, beach body. It sucks that you guys care more about the people who may possibly pirate your system than those who actually paid for it. There are ways to protect dvds from being copied without making them impossible for certain people to use.
