P90X good for Pecs?
9/11/09 2:16 PM
Hi everyone.
1st let me say that I am LOVING P90X! Tonite will be my 5th workout. I am feeling it all over my body everyday, in a good and bad way! emoticon

But 1 thing I am noticing from my workouts so far, and from seeing all the wonderful BEFORE and AFTER photos from my fellow Xers, is the apparent lack of Pec involvement. From experience, did anyone else HAVE TO add presses/flys to their workout to get their Pecs involved as much as the rest of your body's muscles got worked by P90X?

Thanks
Marcellus.

P.S. I know this may have been answered already, but the search function is VERY unhelpful.

Hey marcellus85!
Congrats on becoming and X kid...lol
All my life I never had any pec muscles to speak of, just a flat area there with a nipple on each side, blah!
After my first round of P90X I found my pecs were there but not as large as I would like. I uped my intensity in my second round and in only 15 days into teh 2nd round, my pecs are begging to pop! I do deeper and more pushups in each exersise. Here is the tric....when you thin you are done and cant do anymore..dig deeper and do 3 more. Thats what I have been doing. If you have to push pause, do it, then jump back in. Today I added some dumbell flies in too so I will let you know how that works for me.
If I can help in any other way just shoot me an email.

Thanx Ron...I will absolutely look into that! I just dont want to compromise what P90X was designed to do for me. Maybe I should wait until my round 2. Preciate it man!!

Here's the thing... P90X will develop all of your muscles. It's not meant for bulking, but for cutting, but if you push your limits on any strength training you will gain size.

The problem a lot of people have is that they do exactly what Tony says in Chest & Back, they quit before they should. They do the number the group on TV is doing, or some number in their head, and then they stop. Maximum reps means go until you can't get back up with good form.

I personally do over 360 push ups in Chest & Back every time now, after 2 years of this, and have gone as high as 460 total. Trust me on this, if you push to your maximum, right to that very limit, you will gain pec size. You can't help it.

Thanx Derek! I know one thing I absolutely have to do is get heavier weight when I can afford it (hopefully next week). I know that if I want bulk, I must go for alot less maximum reps than 25. Of course this doesnt apply to pushups. For them, it IS just plain old-fashioned max reps. Thanx again man!
