RE: Calories burned during ChaLEAN Extreme workouts??
Showing 11 results.
Hi there-

I am on week 1 of ChaLEAN Extreme. I know how important it is to create a calorie deficit when trying to drop weight, so I am wondering if anyone knows approximately how many calories are burned during each ChaLEAN Extreme workout? I understand there are many factors involved in calculating calorie burn such as body weight, intensity of exercise performed, etc. But if anyone has a general range I could use as a guideline that would be very helpful! I am 5'4" and weigh 140 lbs.

Thanks!

Hi. I don't know if you have access to this feature or not, but you can find out your daily caloric needs by going to the top tool bar to 'Eat Smart' dropdown menu. Click on Nutrition Tools and then Caloric Needs. It will ask you for your age, weight, height & fitness program. Given the informatin I have about you, it looks like about 400 calories.
Hope that helps! =D

Hi! I have a bodybugg and use it to track how many calories I burn in each workout. I think 400 really does overestimate the calorie burn of Chalean Extreme.

I'm 5'10, 175ish lbs. For the Burn/Push workouts (that is Burn 1,2,3 or Push 1,2,3), I burn between 180-240 calories. I sweat like crazy during them, but again, it's not cardio-based, it's strength-training so the calorie burn isn't as high as it is during Cardio workouts. However, Chalene says that she notices on her bodybugg that she burns more after a strength-training workout throughout the day. (I'm not sure if it's like that for me however)

For Burn Intervals, I burn around 400 calories, and Burn it Off, around 300 (it's a shorter workout).

For Turbo Jam however, I burn 500 for Cardio Party 1 and 2, 517 for Punch, Kick and Jam, and 370ish for Cardio Party Remix, so I like to do these sometimes in place of Burn Intervals or Burn it Off to mix it up a bit and increase my calorie burn.

My log sheet is in another building where i do my workouts, but if anyone is interested in specifics, I can bring it to my computer and write down the specifics.

i had a lot of success in my first 2 months of working out, but I think I was over-eating as I was assuming I was burning around 400 per workout when I was estimating how much I should eat. Often when I do a Push workout, I'll do some cardio before for about 20 minutes or so just to increase my calorie burn for the day while I'm working out. Good luck! ;)

machinegirl-

this was extremely helpful thank you! emoticon

one more quick question if you don't mind... i received a "bonus" workout on the "burn it off" dvd...its called TurboJam Fat Blaster workout. I am guessing I burn at least 300 cals because it is one of the most intense cardio workouts i have EVER done!!! And only 30 minutes which I love! Ever calculated calorie burn on that one?

Also if you know of any other TurboJam workouts similar to that one please let me know...because I am new to TurboJam and am thinking of ordering more now because I love the FUN factor of these!! But ultimately I like the more intense workouts that are shorter (30 min) so any suggestions I would love to hear!!

Thanks again!emoticon

hi Shannon-

thanks, I did see that tool now, and that helps to know how many cals to eat based on which program you are doing. it would be nice if they showed you an estimate of how much you are burning too. i suppose they try to keep it simple by saying "just eat this much and do these workouts and you will see results" kind of thing. i suppose i am a bit more analytical and knowing the estimated burn makes me feel like I can ensure I actually create that deficit if i eat a little more or less that day! oh well, maybe they will add that feature in the future. emoticon

thanks again! emoticon

Hey Melissa! I saw your question about Turbo Jam. I think you might like the Turbo Jam LIVE set.

Cardio Party Remix
Join Chalene's dance party and burn, baby, burn! (30 minutes)
Booty Sculpt + Abs
Chalene's total-body sculpting class with more incredible music, loads of fun, and rockin' results. (30 minutes)

The workouts are pretty fun & only 1/2 hour. I really liked them when doing TJ.

Man! After reading this, I think I should decrease my calories on the circuit days. Especially after noticing people saying they don't lose too much weight during the Burn & Push phases. DANGIT! emoticon

Hi Melissa,

Because everyone is different, I would suggest investing in a heart rate monitor that tracks calories burned during a workout. I have the Polar F6. It was about $100 at Academy but was the best thing because I truly know how many calories I am burning per workout.

I am in my first round of the Push Phase (week 4) and I have burned between 180 - 225 calories for the strength training workouts. I burn between 350 - 400 calories with burn intervals and about 350 with burn it off.

I have also been adding SI6 - Burn It Up or Ramp It Up on one of the rest days and all the strength days (only the cardio portion). That gives me about 250 more calories burned. I just felt that 180 - 225 calories on strength days was not enough.

I think that I am going to purchase the extra CE dvds to incorporate. The SI6 stuff is getting boring.

Hope this helps!

Hi Wanda-

Thanks for that info too! I do have a wrist heart monitor, but it is the kind you have to place two fingers on the sensors every few minutes during your workout to measure heart rate. I like it because there is no chest strap to wear but it doesn't take a "constant" heart rate...so it averages your calorie burn based on how many times you measure heart rate. It works ok but i never get the "real" count which kinda bugs me.

Anyway, knowing your calorie burn helps me to know on average what I burn, so thanks!!

I too add the extra cardio in on most days. I feel i need it to really get that fat burn going! I am in week 4 of Burn phase now and so far it all seems to be working well. Droppin' some inches now and feeling good!

wow, I'm glad I found this thread. I didn't know about the eat smart, nutrition, etc drop down. It's way off on me however. I've been doing insanity and have stopped losing weight. The drop down says I should eat just under 2000/cal/day to lose????? The Insanity guide says I should eat 1200 - crazy emoticon I've been eating 1500. I'm 5'1 and 131 pounds. Anyway, I started CE a while back and was frustrated at not losing so I switched over to insanity. It's very intense and you sweat a lot but I'm not losing like I thought I would. It's more to transform your body than weight loss. I did lose 4 or 5 lbs though and I stuck with it and the diet plan. I'm going back to CE (after I finish this last week of Insanity) and stick with it and the diet plan this time. I'm sure it just takes time and I'll add in a little more cardio with CE. Oh I also ordered the Slimming Formula or whatever it's called. So I hope to see good results. emoticon Oh, I might start with month 2 since I finished month 1, do you think this will be a problem?

Hi Kimmy - I recommend that you use MyFitnessPal.com to calculate your caloric intake. It is a free calorie counter and diet/exercise journal. When you login, you will set up a profile that will get your height, weight, gender, how much you want to lose, etc, etc and determine your net calorie intake. Any calories burned during workouts should be added to the net caloric intake. So, if my net caloric intake is 1400 and I burn 350calories in a workout, then I should eat 1750calories that day.

Also, if you don't have one, I would suggest a programmable heart rate monitor that will keep track of the calories burned during a workout. Those guidebooks can be confusing. They are usually basing the numbers off of some high number of calories being burned during a workout.

I am on my last week of CE and will be starting a new round. I did not get my eating in check until a few weeks ago so I did not get the maximum results that I could have gotten.

Hope this helps!
Wanda
