Hey there Coach. Thanks for the heads up, via your blog email, of the new thread. I'm here and still hitting it hard!! Thanks for all you do!!!

For any who may be looking for a fantastic coach and friend, you couldn't find any better than what and who I have found in Coach Zarno!! I have been a part of her little family since the 1st thread and group that she started. She is a very down to earth person that has a long history in fitness and health, and a big store of knowledge that comes with that history. AND she is sooooo willing to share and encourage and help us all through our trials and successes. She is FUNNY and still catches me by surprise with her wit and insights.

I started this BB journey a little shy and unsure, but have persevered through coming onto 2 years now with very few days missed........ and those because of a serious concussion that still haunts me. I have done P90X 6 times, Insanity and Les Mills Combat with a peppering of T25, Rev Abs and now some P90X3 on a trial basis. They are all fantastic programs ans I have seen fantastic results from them. In my 1st round of P90X I went from 18% body fat, doing 6 unassisted pullups in an hour long workout to less than 10% body fat and did 321 unassisted pullups in my last pullup workout!!!! Unbelievable results!! I have transformed from an overweight, out of shape 52 yr old to a guy who is now younger in body than I was at 25!! I believe strongly that anyone that follows these programs will find a new self and their life, and the lives of their loved ones will be truly blessed for the effort and change in life.

I credit hanging out here a huge part of finding my successes. Coach Z has become a very close friend and supporter of Paxx. For which I am truly grateful and honored.

So coach......after all that mush emoticon just want to say......THNAKS!!!! YOu ARE a ROCK STAR!!! TRULY!!!

Paxx

PS. Did a 5k run today!!! Changed up some stuff.....shortened my stride length, increased my cadence, slowed my breathing, and had a very fun run!!! Had a 9:30/mile pace and really enjoyed myself!!! No achy knees or shin splints and never got to that winded stage at all!!! I'm starting to get the running bug!! Actually starting to think about a half or full marathon. The thought of it actually excites me. Once I figure out my marathin training I will work in some core/strength training into the program as well!!!

And, I TOTALLY think you should consider a 1/2 marathon. I think you would do fantastic!! Perhaps the Manitoba Marathon in June?? ;) wink wink nudge nudge?? emoticon

So guys, as you can see, we have some fab people here in the group, so be sure to say hello and join us!! You won't regret it!

Evening all

A new thread - yippeee emoticon

So lets start it off ina good way. I was supposed to do Insanity Max cardio conditioning tonight (only 47 minutes long) but need to be out early tomorrow evening for another appointment so swapped it out with Max Interval Circuit (59 minutes long) and really went for it as I strangely felt quite good about working out today.

And the proof they say is in the pudding ......

Will give a little background to all teh newbies next time I type but I can certaibly vouch for what Paxx has said regarding Coach Zarno - once you have been on this thread you wont go anywhere else.

Keep pushing y'all

Not sure yet. Think I will probably finish off the T25 month 2 dvd's and then see what happens.

Have not got room in garage to do the P90X workouts as very low ceiling (nearly bang my head every time I do diamond/tuck jumps) so limited on what I can get through.

John, I have exactly the same problem with any of the jumping stuff. It makes some insanity moves hard for me... I always hit my hands on the ceiling during hit the floors, jumping jacks, and I've scraped my knuckles more than a couple of times with diamond jumps. I just started trying to bring my hands as close to my head as possible, but I still feel like the low ceiling limited me somewhat.

Really got a good workout last night with P90X chest and back and ab ripper X. I like that one alot.

W1D2 - T25 Speed 1.0 and P90X Plyometrics: So I finished my AM cardio this morning with Speed 1.0. Impression.... Speed 1.0 is stupid. It's basically month 1 insanity warm ups for 25 minutes. I know this is only the alpha phase, and I know this program is going to get harder (I hope), but I can't help but think it's sort of an easier version of insanity that was created to appeal to more people, because insanity was too hard and people complained.

I've never done the P90X plyo before. How does it compare to insanity's max plyo?

Hey Team!!

So I've decided to mix things up a bit with this thread, and each day will have some sort of "question/topic" etc.

Here's your question of the day. Yesterday I wrote a blog post about things that can hold people back from succeeding with their fitness journey. There are a number of things that can hold you back, including schedule, fear of failure, how you view yourself--all sorts of stuff.

In the past (or even now) what do you think had held you back? Or what is a challenge you face with regards to your fitness journey? (past or present). As always answering is optional--it's just a fun way to generate some discussion.

Here is the link to my blog if you're at all interested: http://www.jodyzarn.com/weight-loss-program/

And on another note, I actually got up EARLY and got my workout in before everyone woke up!! Yahooo! Did the Warrior workout! Felt great!!

Have a great day everyone!

W2D2 - P90x3 Dynamix: Tony knew I was in need of a break to restore lean muscle range. I really appreciate today's workout. But I got to believe this is the calm before the storm. Anything that's too good to be true in P90X is definitely too good to be true. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

Coach, it's about time. Nothing like a new place to settle into and begin again. LOL..

Be blessed and keep pushing play.

Coach Z,

My challenge has been and continues to be eating enough and eating right. I honestly don't eat enough meals throughout the day. It's uncharacteristic for me to eat five times a day. As well, eating the proper things is always a hurdle. I would probably be exactly where i want to be if I had a chef to prepare every meal for me, so I wouldn't have to worry about what to eat. One of these days, I am going to be delivered of this money on my back. LOL..... Great discussion starter. I wonder what others are thinking.

Hey all,

Happy NOT MONDAY!!! Yesterday's run felt soooo good that I did an easy version of it today. Another 5K and this time I concentrated on keeping my HR down below 90%, and for the most part it was under 80%. My pace was at 10:00/mile and I felt soooo totally awesome after the run. I was trying to take it easy and so did a 6:1 run/walk and I never felt like I was ever hardly getting a sweat going. The shorter stride, the foot strike, the cadence were all good today. Man.....it makes a difference to the enjoyment of a run when form is better. I guess that is definitely the same with all drills in our workouts. Whether it be P90X, Insanity, T25, LMC or whatever.......form makes things safer and more enjoyable.

CoachZarno:

Thanks coach. That would be a lot of fun. We'll have to see if that could become a reality!!

Hope you all have an awesome day today. Making the time to get your workout in is a huge step that will bring all sorts of good things into your day and the changes that come bring a tonne of great things into your life. It may not be easy, but I can definitely say it IS worth it!!! Press play today!!! Then Play Hard!! And Laugh Lots!!!

Hi everyone

Coach - loved the new videos - found the insanity one very helpful. I've not lost any weight but i have lost a couple of inches emoticon i'm also getting to the point were i wimped out last time i tried Max i WILL NOT wimp out this time.

AP - Beta is loads better than Alpha Speed 2 was my favorite workout.

Another 5 mile run done last night which meant i hit 50 miles so far this month so i'm well on track for my 100 mile challenge. My dog is also much better today popping up and down stairs easily again and managed to jump onto the bed again this morning. Only vewry short runs for her from now on though, basket and a bonio for the longer stuff.

What's held me back before - in a word Me - i tend to doubt myself a lot so that's my biggest challenge too - to believe i can do the stuff i'm trying to do.

Morning All,

HIIT Power and Inner Warrior stretch this morning. After completing the two workoutsI decided to pop in another dvd, I admit I have Insanity envy (it is my favorite workoutemoticon), so I did Pure Cardio! It felt so good and it is nice to feel the muscle soreness, I know I have issues. After completing this round of Combat I will do Insanity until I decide on what to do next,(really leaning toward Pump).

To answer the question, my eating has always held me back. Self sabatoge if you will. I LOVE FOOD! I take it one day at a time ...

Have a good day everyone!

Short answer.... Let's just say, it will undoubtedly give you something else to complain about.

P90X should not be compared to Insanity (or visa-versa). They are two different programs with two different methods and end goals.

If you do want a comparison, X Plyo is not as intense as Insanity, but because of the length of the workout, you can feel it afterwards. It really depends on the intensity you put into it.

Again, making comparisons between a strength and a cardio based workout/program is an act of futility.

If you want a really good cardio & strength workout, try croc wrestling.

MY biggest hurdle is and always has been time. Nutrition was a concern going into my first round of insanity in July, but I think I've got that figured out. I'm taking in almost 3,000 calories a day right now, with the perfect mix of carbs, protein, and fats for lean muscle gain. I think I'm more adequately prepared nutrition wise for this program of doubles than I ever have been. I actually made a nutrition chart with the nutritional value of everything I eat in a day, and tweaked where necessary to get it right.

So, yeah.. Time. I work from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM with a one way commute of about 45 minutes. When I'm done working, I go straight to my son's school and pick him up, then it's ull time dad duty until the wife gets home around 6:47 to 7ish. Then dinner, and since I work so early, after dinner is typically the only time I have to get a workout in. It can be rough. But since T25 is only 25 minutes, I'm getting it in before work, and still using my post dinner time for some resistance stuff.

It's alot, and it's hard sometimes, but it's working I suppose.

Evening all

Feelling a bit rough at the moment as I have just had an old filling replaced and my face is still numb. Starving as wellas I had no evening meal yet and it will be a couple of hours before the numbness goes to allow me to eat. Also cost me £49 (about $75) for one filling and polish - rip off!

Still got my Max cardio workout in with 584 calories in 47 minutes - plus 1.5 litres of sweat.emoticon

Back to my least favourite tomorrow with max plyo on the horizon.

Got to keep pushing though

Haha thanks. Actually I was hoping it was more strength based. I'm getting my cardio through T25 and it's only on my custom schedule because I want to do the muscle / strength building in the afternoons. I just wanted to be sure I wasn't going to be doing 2 cardio workouts today since I already did T25 this morning.

Thanks though.

So true eh. And really, it's impossible to have a workout--at any time of the day and wish that you hadn't done it. (unless you hurt yourself, but that's another story). I got up earlier than normal today so I could get my workout in, and although I sure didn't want to, I felt like a million bucks once it was done. Felt like a million bucks for the rest of the day too! It's funny how there are people out there who will avoid working out (for whatever reason) but will still eat loads of chips and crap to the point where they feel soooo freaking guilty about it--and yet still do THAT over and over again. I have done that myself, too many times, and have vowed not to do that anymore. I am so glad I have found you guys, as you all motivate me each and ever day. Can't regret doing things like this, things that make you feel healthy and strong eh.

So, hope you all had a fab day!! Guess what! I'm going OUT tonight! Yahoo!! PINK is in town and a girlfriend and I are going to the concert. We're going out for dinner beforehand, so that should be fun. And, it's supposed to storm like a bugger her tomorrow, so I guess I'll be digging out from a pile of snow again, haha!

John: Fillings are no fun! Hope you're feeling better tomorrow. Well done with that cardio!

Sounds like you're super dedicated though, which is awesome. It just goes to show that busy people are able to get workouts in and eat right--it's all about time management. And 3000 calories--I can't help but feel a bit jealous haha. The recommended calorie intake for me on my P90X plan is 1500 calories, so it takes some planning to make sure that I don't go over. (although I honestly don't think I could eat 3000 calories in a day, haha) And yeah, I wouldn't call the P90X plyo a "cardio" workout per se. Lots of squats and lunges with some jumping.

Cynt: I hear ya! I LOVE food too!! Salty, sweet, breads...the list goes on. Thank God for the internet though--as now it's possible to find some good meals that are still healthy. Way to go with all those workouts today! You rock!

Sam: I'm doing the Classic version right now. I'd love to do more but I just don't have time. I think I'll add in the odd Insanity workout here and there to get my sweat fix!

Really liking doing dual workouts back to back. This one wasn't as bad as CVX/Dynamix, but it gave a good overall workout. Slowly getting better following Tony's calls on 3.4 Run.

Coach - hope you enjoyed Pink and did lots of dancing about

Max Cardio Intervals really kicked my butt this morning i was really struggling by the end the good news is so long as i press play tomorrow i'll be the furthest along in the programme than when i've tried before. I was actually talking to myself at one point this morning (maybe that's why it's called Insanity).

Try not to think too far ahead in the program, but getting through the next day. That is what got me through many tough weeks.

W2D3 - P90x3 Total Synergistics: I burned 313 calories this morning. I knew yesterday was too good to be true. I am t-i-r-e-d. For the most part i see some improvement across the board. Pull-ups are so hard for me and they reveal one of the weaknesses I have in my fitness. We will keep at it improving as I go. I felt more comfortable with the routine today as I am sure the next time it will be even better.

Happy Hump Day everybody. Keep your head up, your mind in the game and pushing play. Day by day you are creating a better you. Remember Rome wasn't built overnight so hitting your goals won't be that fast either. Be blessed.

Decide. Commit. Succeed.

W1D3 - T25 Full Body Circuit / P90X Shoulders and Arms / Ab Ripper X: The full body circuit this morning was pretty good. It seemed to be a good mix of cardio, plyo power, and upper body stuff. My lower back has been a little stiff (again), but man that pike sequence really loosened it up. That felt great.

Last night's P90X Plyo - Worked up a good sweat, got my heart rate up, felt the burn in my legs, but didn't feel like I got wy too much cardio for the day. I liked it, but I'll probably skip the "bonus" section next time. I modified what I was doing a little though., adding more squats. Like the thing where you just do 180 jump and turns, I just added low squats when I landed.

@Coach - haha.. I know.. 3000 calories seems like alot. When I saw the calculation I was blown away... I was taking in 1800 during my first two rounds of insanity. But since my goal is no longer to drop weight, but to gain it, it makes sense. Not to mention I'm doing doubles, so the increase makes sense. I didn't think I'd be able to eat that much, but with the amount of calories I burn every day, I kinda have to. I never feel overly stuffed at all. Here's my "menu" if you're curious.

Hey all. Happy Hump Day!!! It's soooooooo much fun to run!!! (I can't believe I just had fun & run in the same sentence!!! haha) Did another 5km/3m run this morning. Did the 1st mile quite fast, at about a 8min mile and then slowed my pace to try not to overdo it. It was very enjoyable........again) Thanks Chrissi for the reminder to change directions around the gym. I typically want to run in a counter clockwise rotation, but have been mixing it up to good effect. I am very pleased, and quite surprised that I have absolutely no knee discomfort or shin-splint like symptoms at all. I have always had those running in a gym. Here's hoping that it will continue.

Coach - I failed yesterday to respond to my struggles that I have found. Right now my HUGE struggle is in my nutrition. Actually......it's not much of a struggle because I'm not even trying to nutrition up properly. emoticon So that is my trial right now....to find that frame of mind to make that change. I have never had the challenge as to doing my workouts. I have set a time each day that is my time to workout and I just do it. To make sure that it doen;t ever get interfered with, I made that time early early early, getting up at 3:30 each morning to make it happen. It has been going on now for long enough now that it doesn't even cross my mind to not get up and workout. I have also struggled in the past with not much support from those around me. Even opposition. From friends. From work associates. From family. I got so that I just never made any mention of my efforts to any of those negative influences and didn't make a fight of it when it did come up. I just had to quietly go on with my plan. Now it is not only accepted by all those nay-sayers, but I am encouraged and cheered on for the most part. But there for a while it was quite a lonely world.

@Paxx - good for you for not acknowledging the nay sayers. It's just down right crazy that it can come from so many different places.

Anyway, I wanted to mention that since I started with insanity in July, there's been a cascading effect. First my wife joined me for my 2nd round, then her co-worker decided she wanted to do it when she heard my wife talking about it, then my wife's boss, then her husband, their friends, and it's up to about 15 people now that are starting up various beach body programs. I wonder if they'd ever have started if I didn't decide to in July.

Evening all

Max plyo tonight - my least favourite for some reason. Very nearly made it through three rounds of Level 3 drills tonight but my arms packed in on the 14 / 16 pushups of second set of last set - face plant into floor.emoticon

Not happy with the FT7 HRM monitor as it dropped off again half way through so no accurate reading again. I just wonder if it is a warning about your heart rate as it just says "check your heart rate monitor" - not sure. If any one else has had problems let me know - might send it back.

About 700 calories burned as a guess though so pretty good but it doesn't half make you sweat.

Looking forward to recovery tomorrow now.

Becca Your back - where you been girl? Nice to hear from you again - getting lonely being the only brit on here at times.

W3D3 - P90X3: X3 Yoga

Very good workout. Not only am I getting more familiar with the poses (I should, been doing most of them since P90X), but my Warrior 3 has gotten noticeably stronger on my weak side. But the thing that gave me the biggest smile, was for the first time ever, I was able to hold a Crow pose for 3-5 seconds. For those not familiar, that is where you put your knees on your upper arms and balance.

Pretty happy about that.

Oh, it's good to dream eh!! emoticon

Hey Team!

How did your day go? Hope it went well!! Is it Friday yet, haha!! Well the storm blew in and out pretty fast, so that was good. My aunt and uncle drove in from their farm (about 4 hours drive) and part of the drive was complete white out conditions, but they made it in safe and sound so that's good. This winter has been nuts! You guys wouldn't believe the amount of snow we've gotten here. It's crazy.

So I had planned on getting that workout in today (the one you can do on the rest day--the name escapes me and I'm too lazy to get out of bed to find the schedule), but I'll be back with the Total Synergistics tomorrow. I think I'll get up early and do it again before the morning circus begins.

Sam: Okay, you are AWESOME! I can't even come close to doing the crow and I know if I did I'd end up with a bloody nose. You are officially my hero. Way to go!

John: Yikes! Face plants are no good! And I'd check into that HRM issue. They are supposed to be way more dependable than that. Is it still on warranty?

JOHNATKINSON12:

Ah you're too kind!! And John Smith all the way!! I sure wish we could get it in Canada. Have tried but to no avail. However, I still plan on getting my boy over the pond before long, and my family don't live too far from where you are, so we'll have to meet for a pint! And that is so true about the gym eh. It's winters like this one that make me thankful for Beachbody haha.

AP1916: Wow that's awesome news about all the people around you starting up BB programs! You've started a mass revolution! And thanks for sharing your spreadsheet too. Looks really good! Although I have strayed away from tracking my calories, I do know that when I do it--I stay on track much better with my diet. And yep, you're working very hard these days, so you need that fuel to rev you up!

Paxx: I think you'll be able to get your nutrition back on track. I go through phases like that too, but eventually it will click and you'll get back there. I was actually thinking about you the other morning when I got up early to do my workout. When you first started going to your cave at 3:30 am to get your workout in, did you ever find it tough to do it? Did you wonder what the heck you were doing--or were you always able to get out of bed that early no problem? 3:30 is EARLY so I just admire you for being able to do it. I'd be in a coma by 10:00 am if I got up that early haha!

R-Dub: Well done with that Total Synergistics! I know what you mean too, as pull ups are the bane of my existence. We do what we can though eh!

Chrissi: Yay for making it so far with the program! You rock! And don't worry, it's when you start answering yourself you know you have a problem haha!

Okay guys, I'm off to do a bit of work before my boys home and chaos erupts again, haha!!

Have a good night!

@Sam - That's awesome about the crow pose! Those things are tough.. Every time I see that coming up, I just laugh.. because I look like a fool struggling and pretty much just rolling around on the floor until the time's elapsed. I'm glad he tells you to put a pillow down, because I'm pretty sure my nose would be flat if I didn't heed that warning the first time. lol.

Got a really good workout yesterday from Shoulders and Arms and cardio abs. (I did cardio abs instead of ab ripper X becaue I have to do T25 ab intervals today). I'm trying to lift heavier on everything. Mostly because it helps me keep my rhythm without having to change weights every exercise. Even if I can't get through some of the 16 rep moves and only get to like 12, I thinking lifting heavier and getting less reps is just as beneficial.

I have extra time this afternoon, so I actually slept in a little and am going to do T25 ab intervals and then P90x back and biceps this afternoon.

John - well done on those drills even if you didn't finish very elegantly - i'm doing level 2 instead with the pressup modified otherwise by the time i've done the 16 pressups it's over.

Wouldn't say i enjoyed the plyo this morning but felt about it than yesterday - one day at a time
Really good 5 mile tough hilly run last night with club - it was dry for once - made it around in an hour which i was really pleased with for that route.

Hey all......Happy Almost Friday!!! Did a nice easy run this morning. Kept my HR under 80%(which is 148) and after 5.5 miles I had to quit because my hour was up. I didn't even get out of breath and it felt sooooo fun and relaxed. I really wished I could have continued. (I had some great music playing and was kinda in a LaLa land) I'm loving this!! I couldn't believe I had gone soooo far because it felt like I wasn't even exerting myself. Just one of those good days. Next time out I'll probably get my Butt kicked!!! emoticon

Coach - I am sooooooooo envious!!! I would love to see Pink in concert. She is one of my heros!!! She is sooooo talented and freakin' buff, energetic, and seems to be a very down to earth person. She is truly one of my most favorite performers!! She's got s "I can do anything" attitude, and doesn't seem to care what others think of her. I LIKE THAT!! Soooo......I'm envious!!!

That's an interesting question Coach. I've always enjoyed mornings but NEVER that early!! When I was deciding when to work out and could see that that was the only time I could consistently make it happen, I really questioned myself as to whether I could commit to that or not. It didn't come easy, as I don't make commitments light hearted. Whatever I commit to, I always do my best. And so after weeks of tying to find another time I finally made up my mind to bite the bullet and do the early early morning thing. I can honestly say that I have never once had trouble rolling out of bed when the alarm goes off. And after getting to the cave, I am pumped to go!!!! I take my pre-workout drink. Do some stuff for 20 minutes or so and then hit it hard. Sometimes in the middle of Max Interval Plyo or in the second set of Pullups I might think "What the heck am I doing?" But it's always a good "What the heck am I doing?" even if I feel like I'm dying!!!! emoticon Soooooo.........in short.......Nope. Never had a problem with my feet hitting the floor at 3:30 every morning and heading out to the 'cave'. I am truly an addict. "My name is Paxx. And I must confess that I am a workout-aholic."

Sam - Way to go on holding that nutso crow pose!!! That one is the one I have the most difficulty with by far. Hated P90X's & X2 Yoga as he does 'crane' (the same thing) for like 90 seconds!!!! Ya Right!!!! So good job my man!!!!

Chrissi - YOU SOOOOO ROCK!!!! I have thought of you every day this week as I have been running. You have truly inspired me, as I can sense your enjoyment of the run and I think it is rubbing off!!! Actually KNOW that it is rubbing off. I am having a tonne of fun as I'm not focusing on push push pushing, and just on making it fun. That's a very new frame of mind for me. I've always pushed myself in everything I do. Today I was determined to keep my hr down and just sing along to whatever was playing!! It's working. Thanks for your posts daily for you inspire, whether you know it or not!!

AP1916 - Thanks my friend!! It was discouraging at times, but never to the point of making me think of quitting. I too have had influence on many people to start their fitness journeys. A lot of family members actually, several work associates, lots of friends in the community have taken up exercise, and my 'boys' of scouting. Many of these report to me often on their progress and repeatedly tell me and thank me for my example. When they get all "you're my hero" on me, it embarrasses me and I'm not sure how to respond. But it's all good!!! We really can make a small difference beyond ourselves just by DOING!!!

R-dub - You are such a modest guy, and very inspiring!!! You have come soooooo far and can do soooooo much more than you ever thought possible, and you still bring it everyday!!! Yet, you keep looking onwards and upwards and keep focusing on your weaker points, and not your strengths, so that you can keep getting stronger and better. You truly are a ROCK STAR!!! Thanks my friend!!!

Well, gotta go!!! Keep pushing play. Play hard. And take time to smell the roses and share a laugh with someone today!!!

Hey team!

Here is a video/recipe for these great energy bars. The video/recipe says to mix them in a vitamix blender but I'd assume that you could use a food processor too, just process longer.
These protein snacks will keep around 5 days in the fridge. Also, if you don't have cacao nibs, cocoa would do just fine too.

Recipe Ingredients:

- 3/4 cup nuts - you can use cashews, almonds, brazil nuts or any other raw nut
- 1 cup of dried fruit - your choice again
- 1/2 cup of trail mix (Pura Veda)
- 2 tablespoons raw cacao nibs (Loving Earth)
- 1 tablespoon of hemp protein (Lariese)
- 1 teaspoon Maca Powder (Loving Earth)
- 1 teaspoon Greens Superfoods

Recipe Instructions:

- place ingredients in your Vitamix 5200 blender
- pulse ingredients 5-6 times on pulse speed 5
- Increase speed to 10 and work mixture with tamper each time the machine has a high pitch "free spin" sound. This makes sure that all the mixture is well blended. Stop when the mixture forms a consistency similar to dough.
- Turn the container upside down on a clean surface, spin the blade or tap the container to encourage the mixture to fall if need be.
- You can roll the dough into balls or use a rolling pin and flatten out the mixture and turn it into slices. You can present the mixture however you wish. Sprinkle with coconut to taste.

AP1916:
AP1916:

SamMan58:

For me, the biggest challenge has been my nutrition, and getting it right... and staying on top of it and making the seemingly constant adjustments needed (however small).

-Sam

It's funny to hear that as I always admire your commitment/dedication/willpower with your diet.

Chrissi:

Not sure yet. Think I will probably finish off the T25 month 2 dvd's and then see what happens.

Have not got room in garage to do the P90X workouts as very low ceiling (nearly bang my head every time I do diamond/tuck jumps) so limited on what I can get through.

Hey Coach

It's great to be back and even better to see some regular faces!! Well done everyone you are truly rocking this!!

Well I have hit Insanity again. I was pretty pleased with myself if I may say so...why you ask? Well. You know when you order that new work out programme and your waiting for it to arrive and your all stoked and pumped with energy and excitement. The big day arrives and the box is delivered. You can't wait to get your work out gear on and bust the moves being shouted at you from the T.V.....Soon that excitement can fade, generally week 3/4 with Insanity right. But you've come so far and been doing so well giving up is not a option, so you push through (a large part also due to the great guys and girls on here. Well, I had none of that feel this time when I dusted off that Insanity box...nothing, zilch, zero.....but I still done it. Yay me!! Lol! And I have to say, it may only be day 3...but I'm starting to feel real good about this. So fingers cross Insanity round 4 may just get completed. Heres hoping Ha ha ha!

It's great to be back. Missed you all

W3D4 - P90X3: The Challenge

Managed to hit all the numbers, with some effort. Started pull-ups non-assisted, jumping up on the last couple to do negatives. After a couple sets, I had to add an assist band, again doing the last couple jumping up to a negative (when my chin dipped below the bar). For the burnout, no band, but did negatives.

Hey Team!

Hope you all had a great day! It was a good day here in Zarnoville, and a little chaotic. My boy was home "sick" today so I had to juggle getting my work done and keeping him entertained. He had a sore throat that magically got better and better as the day wore on. Needless to say, he'll be back at school tomorrow!! ;) Ah well, we all need a mental health day once in a while eh! emoticon

You guys would be SO PROUD of me today! I got up early AGAIN to get my workout in!! Yahoo!! Total Synergistics today. I suck at some of the moves...those plough thingies are just useless, but I still got a good sweat on anyway. I think the more I do it the better I'll get--especially balance/coordination wise.

So here is a Totally non-fitness related question for you guys. Have any of you heard of the Mars One Mission? It's a project where this team is planning on sending groups of people to Mars every 2 years (starting in 2022---I think) to develop a permanent settlement there. It's a one way ticket, and the goal is to develop a permanent colony. Groups of 4 people will be sent every two years. A lady from Winnipeg was short listed to go, which is crazy!! I had never heard of this before, and although it seems quite fascinating, it kind of freaks me out saying goodbye to my friends and family to hop on a shuttle to Mars, knowing that I'll never see them again.

Here is the link to their page: http://www.mars-one.com/

What do you guys think of this?? Would you go?

Sam: Well done with your workout!! I sure wish I could do an unassisted pull up. My arms are SO weak in that area, it isn't even funny. I bow down to you!

Becca: Great job!! I'm so happy to have you back here!! You're going to rock this round as always!!

Cynt: Ya Pink is awesome eh. She is a true testament of what we can do if we want something--no matter what our age is. My boy now wants to learn how to play some Pink songs on the Ukelele haha. (his name is Luke and he called the Uke the Lukelele, haha!)

Paxx: Wow that run sounds awesome!! I've got runner's envy now! And you are my total hero for being able to get up so early. Seriously! I know so many people who need to make changes but refuse to make even the smallest changes in their lives, so the fact that you are rocking your workouts at 4 am--well you are awesome!

Chrissi: Well done with that run!! We have an awesome group of runners now--which is very cool!! We rock eh!! emoticon

AP1915: Yep, lifting heavier with les reps is a great thing!! I can't wait to see your after pics once this round is done!

Okay guys, I'm off to send some emails now! Have a great night!

Ploughs are very good for stretching the lower back and spine. If you sit at a desk all day (like me), they are a welcome relief. Why they were combined with boats, I have no idea, but did young Bruce Lee question his master? emoticon

Hey all. Yay!!! It's Friday!!! Did another easy 5k this morning. I would run/jog about 1k then walk for 30 seconds and repeat till I was done. It was very enjoyable. I was in new shoes today and so it was a bit different. Went to Runner's Soul, a local running shop (very similar to The Running Room) and tried on, and ran in 6 different pairs of shoes of all brands and ended up settling on some nice trail shoes (I run alot of gravel) made by Asics. They fit my feet the best and this will now be my 3rd set of Asics in a row. And it helped when I found out at the till that they were 50% off!!! They have removeable metal posts (kinda like more blunt football studs) that make them great for Canadian icy roads. I ran in the gym this morning, (without the studs in of course) and can't wait to try them outside on some icy roads....will let you know what I think when that happens. In the mean time, my inside run with them was awesome!!! Love the way the feel!!!!

MY internal fire was lit yesterday!! I was talking to someone here at the school about my new found love of running and how I am planning to do a half marathon in the late spring and then considering a full in early fall. A fellow work associate, who is has done a half before along with a few ironman/tough mudder type runs, and has done P90X during the same months that I have been doing them, happen to overhear that comment of mine. He just kinda snorted and said "You can't do it." Man.......let me tell you, I'm not sure if it showed on my face but IMMEDIATELY I felt a fire light and a resolve harden deep down within me, with the thought in my mind "You can't tell me what I can and can't do!!!..... And I don't need your permission to do what I want to do!!!! Just Watch ME!!!!" Well, here I am after a day and a sleep and is my resolve any less? Am I less resolute? I can tell you, most assuredly, NO!!!" My resolve is hardened. My will is fierce!! My Focus is keen!! And the fire is burning hot and bright!!! I am focused to train properly and carefully to avoid injury. I am focused to learn everything I can to get myself prepared physically, emotionally, mentally and nutritionally. I am resolved to do all in my power to do this thing that I WANT TO DO. AND.......I am determined to have fun!! To stop and smell the roses, enjoy the scenery, take in the joy of running and being outdoors. To make it such an experience that I will want to do it again!! AND......I can't wait to hang the 'Bling' I receive from completion of these events in my Office for all to see.
I told my 28 yr old daughter about this yesterday and she just smiled and said "I'm just like you dad. Just tell me I can't do something.......I dare you!!" She understands!!

Well......kind of a rant!!! But a real life rant to me!!! Sooooo in my quest and drive to do this, any advise, tips, stories are welcome and wanted. Thanks for listening!!!

Have a great day today. Enjoy pushing play today!!! Play Hard!!! And make someone laugh today!!!

Paxx - i hate that attitude how dare he emoticon but just maybe he's afraid your going to show him up ???? I have every confidence you can do a half you certainly have the determination being able to run 5k + around a gym is not something to be sniffed at the boredom alone would kill me. My road and trail running shoes are both Asics and i've stuck with the brand for a while now they seem to suit me.

Coach - i saw a guy on a news programme over here ealier in the week who is waiting to see if he's been selected for this Mars programme. He was a Physics student so i guess that's why he wants to go. Just sounds way to weird and far fetched for me.

Recovery this morning and it was a lot better than last week, i modified were i needed to and went at my pace for some of the exercises and spent rather alot of time in childs pose ;-)

Short run tonight, rest tomorrow then another 16 miler planned for Sunday.

Have a good weekend everyone x

The weather keeps going up and down here so now both the hubby and I are suffering with head colds . In fact a lot of people at work are going through the same thing! I must admit I feel a whole lot better after working out. Hopefully the weather will stablize in the coming days.

Paxx, Like Dan says in Combat SMASH IT!

I have the sneaky suspicion that I am just as bent and unorthodox as can be. My flexibility is shot, but at the very least I am doing the best I can. It may not be pretty but we are truly working. Last night I got my T25 Ab Intervals and P90X Back and Biceps in. T25 Ab Intervals - I really liked this one alot. I like how there's actually an incorporated section specifically devoted to your back. That I think was one of the problems with insanity in general. Essentially no back work. P90X routine went as normal. I continue to get better with my pullups. Each time I do it I can do a little more before I start using my chair. I actually made it to 5 corn cobs before I had to use it. That's huge for me.. lol. I've upped the weight on Congdon Locomotive too, so the only conclusion is that my back is getting stronger.

Got my T25 Cardio and Lower Focus in this morning. I got alot more out of the cardio this time than I did last time. More familiarity with the moves meant less time stopping and looking at the screen and saying to myself, "wait... what is he doing?" That obviously means more time to just get after it.

Lower focus - between this one and the p90x plyo, plus playing hockey every week, I'd say my legs are getting what they need to. Ow.. My... calves.

P90X Chest, Shoulders, and Tris tonight. Then looking forward to some yoga and less intense stuff over the weekend.

Been thinking about investing in some selecttech 552s. I seem to recall some of you having these. Worth while investment?

@skolvikings7 - a fellow minnesotan? That profile picture looks like the Como zoo conservatory. lol.

@Paxx - You are more aware of naysayers than most. This is what I've come to discover about certain types of naysayers. Those of them that are in relatively good shape, like the guy who told you that you can't do a half or full marathon, like to think that their achievement are not obtainable or matchable by others. In short, their fitness accomplishments are obtained for only one reason. So they can say "look at me! I'm better than you!" when what he should be doing is encouraging and supporting you in the challenge. For whatever reason, the accomplishments of others and the ability of others for some reason somehow undermines their accomplishments. It's a mindset that makes no sense, and is completely falsely premised, but people think that way none the less. They'd like to think that they are the only ones who can do certain things, and that it's somehow a threat to them if others prove themselves capable. They are simple people who need exclusion so that they can feel special and strong. Teach him a lesson and prove him wrong.

@skolvikings7 - nothing compares to insanity. T25 is perfect for my current goals though. Im trying to gain weight, so 25 minutes of cardio is plenty. T25, at least the alpha phase, is comparable to insanity's pure cardio. The ab video is better than insanity though. But yeah... theres nothing like month 2 insanity. So far t25 is less intense, and half as long. I like it, and its nice to change things up. I needed a break from insanity.

Hi Everyone.

Hope your having a great weekend!

I have a confession to make...I didn't work out for 2 days!! Well I didn't do Insanity for 2days. I did a workout with a friends yesterday. so instead of today being my rest day I completed Pure Cardio..I have to say this is my lest favourite of all the Insanity workouts. I have never smoked, sing loads (only out of ear shot these days. Lol!) and always been pretty active but my lungs are awful..IT SUCKS!! When I work hard I end up with a cough of an 90yr old that has smoked heavily all their life. Once my body gets use to the exercise it does pass, so guess its good to give the old bellows a clear out eh.

Anyway here is my plan for this Insanity round and I would like to know what you think. Insanity is a challenge full stop and I by all means do not find it easy in any way shape or form but I want to stretch the challenge, give me something new to aim for. This is my plan what do you guys think?

1st 2wks doing weeks 3 and 4 workouts of Insanity 60 days workout calendar(I'm through 1st wk. Yay!)

wk 3 and 4 doing weeks 5 and 6 workouts on Calendar

Recovery week

wk 5 and 6 doing weeks 7 and 8 workout on Calendar

wk 7 and 8 doing weeks a mixtures of workouts from month 1(AM) and month 2 (PM)

Thanks for reading. Keep pushing play and kicking it HARD!!

Morning All,

Today is rest day. so I popped in a dvd from my pre BB days. It was mostly cardio and it used to tire me out. Well, I added as much intensity as I could to really work up a sweat, but it did not tire me out. After I completed the workout I decided to lift weights while watching the news. I am going to do Les Mills Pump after i finish this round of Combat. As soon as I finish this post, I am going to order it!

R-Dub, I am rooting for the same two teams. Not necessarily a Manning fan, except when it comes to his baby brother ( I like rooting for the underdog and when you have a big brother like that, you are the underdog). I did root for Peyton when he was with the Colts becasue I have always been a Tony Dungy fan and followed him from team to team. My hubby is a Patriot fan, so you know it will get intense in our house during the course of the day. My oldest son is 49er fan and I always root for them because of him!

Have a good day everyone!

Haven't gotten a workout in today, but I think I'll throw my kid in the tub after supper and workout in the hallway by the bathroom while he's playing. A girl's gotta do what a girl'd gotta do eh!!

It's funny too, in the past the weekends where the times when I struggled the most with my diet, especially when we watch movies. How can you watch a movie without treats!! But this weekend I didn't have one single craving for a treat, which is pretty cool. I can honestly say I ate quite well all weekend.

Good points. I used to work at a specialty running store so I met runners of all abilities and I met quite a few runners who considered themselves "Elite" and were quite snotty to the lesser crowd. The irony of it all was that many of those 'elite' runners went on to get injured (b/c they pushed harder instead of listening to their bodies) and can no longer run anymore. Talk about ironic, especially since the slower runners are still plugging away, injury free.

Paxx, I'm totally with you! And I have no doubt that you will kick ass with both the 1/2 marathon and full marathon! That guy can go suck it. Like AP1916 says, there are some runners out there who think that they are a tad bit better than everyone else. I know you will show him what you can do!!

I had posted some running info a few threads ago for Stu, and if you guys want I can post it again here. It's got some training info that you might find helpful.

Becca, that looks like a great Plan!!! I like changing things up!!! And like Coach said, you've done insanity before so you know what your up against. Changing things up helps to break up what could otherwise become monotonous. I think you're brilliant!!! I'm here cheering you on!!!!

LOVE your new profile pic!!!!! Must be you and your amazing daughter??!!

And....I'm keeping up the running. Rest day today, but yesterday I did a fun 5K/3m. I did the 1st mile at a very easy 10:30 pace. The 2nd I did at just under 8 min, and the 3rd back to 10:30. It was a really enjoyable run. then that night I went with a big (150 or so) youth group of kids from 12-18 yrs old, and we went skating for 2 hrs. I think I was the oldest skater the ice but I spent a lot of time tackling and mock fighting some of the bigger guys, as well as chasing and being chased as I would horse around with them. It was a super fun time. I had my PA gear there at the rink and we had music pumping (being the audio nerd that I can be, I pulled out my SPL (decibel) app and saw that we had the music hitting around 95db for most of the night. I love my PA gear!!! hahaha Anyway........the kids had a great time. Of the leaders that were there, only one other leader was on the ice for the time. It's fun to have a tonne of energy and be able to play hard with those kids. Still gotta unload my gear and put it away though!! That's another workout in itself!! emoticon

AP1916:

Zarno

Thanks AP1916 and Coach!!! I agree that this work associate is one of those that loves his accomplishments. He is really a very nice guy, but loves to be THE guy that does this big marvelous things. Although he knows that I'm in great shape, he thinks of me as 'old'. Not tooo long ago we had some staging setup under the basketball hoops and backboards at the school. We had the whole school there setting up for an event and he called me up onto the staging and challenged me to a pullup contest in front of all these kids. Now....he knew that I hadn't been doing pullups as I was in the last month of insanity, and he was in month 2 of P90X at the time. Let me tell you, he was surprised, actually Very Surprised when I was still going when he was done. I only did a couple more than him and then quit, not wanting him to look bad and all in front or the kids. He commented several time afterward that I surprised him, especially for 'your age'. emoticon

So, I am sure he will be surprised again when that Half and then Full marathon bling is hanging on my office wall!!

Coach I would love to you dig up that info. I remember when you posted that, but not running at the time, nor thinking I would ever want to 'really' run, I just scanned the info. SOOOOO.......... that would be awesome!!!!!

Well, new training week starts tomorrow!!! Wooooo HOOOOOOO!!!! Love this running. Looking forward to starting to build up some miles. But I'm not going to go faster or quicker than is wise. I'm determined to be safe and not over train and become injured. THAT is my 1st priority right now!!!

Everyone have a great day. Play hard!!! Laugh Lots!!

I'm so excited - we've booked our holiday 2 weeks in sunny Lanzarote just after my 2nd marathon in June - i will be so ready for some r&r by then.

Max Cardio Conditioning this morning and it was hard on my legs after yesterdays run. I did 16 miles again but this time on the hilly muddy forest trails near where i live so much tougher going than on the road but i love the peace and solitude you can find out there. I really must try to take some pictures when i'm out running and post them up here so you can see part of the reason i love running so much (i really don't think i'd of ever become a runner if i lived in a city). I'm so lucky i live where i do.

Paxx - love that you beat the guy in pull ups no wonder he's trying to put you off running he's terrified your going to show him up again - ha ha you go show him.

Morning All,

Combat 45 and a long yoga today. Today is a Holiday and now I trying to decide what to do besides get a haircut. There are two parades today and I LOVE parades emoticon.

The one thing that I am that makes me proud of me, is my determination! No matter what, determination has gotten me through a lot. From being a single mother and raising 4 kids (3 boys and 1 girl) on my own. To packing up my troops and moving from Maryland to California, and leaving my support system. I'm proud to say my daughter has that same determination and it looks like one of the grandgirls is showing that same trait. Even though that could just be the terrible twos! emoticon

Have a good day everyone and by the way, GO BRONCOS!

Well, Monday is here!!! Another week ahead. What's behind us is behind us and we can become whatever we want to starting today!! Had a great day off yesterday and then hit a 5 miler this morning. A nice easy just-under-10 minute mile pace. Feels great. Still can't believe that I'm enjoying running soooo much. It's a new world!!!

Chrissi, just curious as to what marathon training plan you are following. I'm excited that you are doing your 2nd marathon!!!! YOU ROCK!!!! I'm aiming for a fairly local, low key half in June to be my 1st attempt at it. I'm sure my time will be not very notable, but that isn't of importance to me at this point. Just want to run it and have fun.

Coach - You ask crazy questions.......you know that right? What m I good at.......hmmmm...... I've been told time and again that I am one of those jack-of-all-trades kind of guys and I add that I'm a master of none. My 28 yr old daughter summed me up really well on saturday when I was at her place helping her with a few repairs/ etc on her home. She said she was telling a friend of her about me and said that "My dad is one of those guys that sees something new and shiny come along that he gets interested in and he learns all he can about that skill/hobby and attacks with all his energy until he has become good at it and then he sees something else new and shiny come along that catches his eye and he dives into that with all his energy. And cycle continues, and has continued all his married life. He is one of those guys that has skills and talents and knowledge in just about anything that is out there. He's a little A.D.D. in that he moves on before he becomes a master at anything." I laughed and laughed when she told me that!!! She knows me waaayyyyy too well. She's impressed that I have stuck with my life of fitness and wellness for so long and that it is ever evolving!!! What can I say??? I'm addicted to feeling good and having energy!!!

But I do have some accomplishments that I am proud of in my life. I designed, built, and test piloted a very successful 130mph 2 place low wing airplane from the 1st initial drawings and dreamings to the finished product. I have built my wife her 5000 sq ft. dream home. I have fathered and raised along with my incredible Mrs. Paxx, 8 wonderfully talented, smart and responsible children. I love music and play a myriad of instruments and have played in bands most of my life, writing many albums worth of songs along the way.

Well..... those are a few of the things that I feel I have done well in my life. It's kinda weird to be patting myself on the back.........sorry..........hope you all take some time to brag too!!!!

have a great day today!!! Press Play!!! Play Hard!!! And make someone Laugh today!!!

Two things come to mind right away...
One is my artistic ability, and being able to think abstractly. I never was a very good traditional paper & brush artist, but very talented musically (kind of dropped it after my surgery). Was able to pick up just about any instrument and teach myself how to play it. Today, my artistic ability manifests itself in the camera lens, and also in web design.

The other one has always been to be able to quit/stop anything of my choosing (the exception being food). I have never had what I would call an addictive personality, and could just decide to stop a behavior in an instant (and let me tell you, I've had plenty of bad ones over the years). The latest has been alcohol. Decided one day (a few months ago) I no longer liked the feeling it gave me... the very next day, dropped it. Haven't had a drop since (ok, one shot on new years).

Paxx - my next marathon in April will actually be my 5th (i've completed 2 and had to pull out of 2 at around 16-18 miles because of injury in 1 and illness in the other horrid to do but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger right) April is a flat city road marathon (Manchester. Then June is a trail marathon local to me (my illness DNF) then October is the Snowdonia marathon so road but big hills (1st time i tried it was my injury DNF but i did complete in 2012).

Most people would not count DNF but i do because i had a go and tried my best and that's what i'm most proud of that i attempt these challenges because as a youngster i did not do sport fullstop and when i started running 7 years ago i couldn't get even a 1/2 mile without stopping.

W3D1 - P90x3 CVX: I burned 419 calories this morning doing CVX. This is not cool. Yesterday I had the Challenge and I woke up stiff this morning from all the push ups and pull ups, then Tony pulls this things where we have cardio with weights. You are killing me man!!!!

I need mercy!!!! Please???? LOL... There is no progress without pain, so I will put in work and stop crying about it. On a more serious note, today we celebrate the legacy of a civil rights leader Dr Martin Luther King Jr. Though things have improved greatly in race relations, there is still a need to be intentional in getting to know others, refraining from judging books by their covers and continuing to live in peace and harmony rather than in ignorance and prejudice.

My prayer is that humanity will seek to appreciate the value of human life in every person on the earth and we learn to embrace our differences rather than try to ignore them. I appreciate each of you and the common things we share on this thread and hopefully we will take the principles of this cyber community - openness, acceptance, encouragement and concern for others and live them out in our natural communities.

Hope you all had a great day! I'm just getting ready to make some supper before a race meeting tonight.

Did the agility workout this morning and wow did it feel good. I totally needed that. I had hoped to be able to do yoga after supper tonight but I have this meeting instead, emoticon . Ah well, duty calls eh.

And thanks for answering my question!! I LOVE your answers!! And today's question leads us to tomorrow's rant, so stay tuned!! emoticon

If I had to pick something I'm good at, or something I'm proud of, I think I'd have to say that I'm proud of the fact that I am not afraid to try new things, and learn new things. I haven't been able to go to a traditional job for the past few years, but that hasn't stopped me from creating my own home-based business. In the past few years I have learned how to build websites, blog, shoot youtube videos, etc...and I have grown so much as a person because of it. I love a new challenge... figuring out how to do something. I just got a video studio and now I'm busy trying to learn how to light it properly so the videos look decent. I only have a couple of lights, but I'll get there!

Well, I'm off to make supper. Have a good night!

Hey all.....Tuesday is here. Did a 6M/10K run this morning in a bit under an hour. It was a nice run with lots of energy at the end. I am sooooo enjoying this!!!

Chrissi - You ARE MY Hero!!!! I am soooooo impressed that after 2 DNF marathons that you're running again and not just running, but are running marathons!!! That Soooooo ROCKS!!!! I appreciate that you shared that with us and want you to know that it inspires me. I had to laugh when you said that you couldn't run even 1/2 mile without stopping......A few years ago when I was trying this running thing I felt great if I could get in 1/4 mile!!!! emoticon Today I ran the 1st mile in 8:30 then did the next 3 at a run 1/2m /walk 20 seconds, jogged the 5th, took 30 second walk and then ran the last, even sprinting for the last 1/4 mile and for some reason my gait was easy as was by breathing. Even at the end of that sprint I had even breath.......Not Sure What's Wrong!!! emoticon Anyway........I look forward to your posts of what you are doing.

Coach = that is such a great poster for me!! Thanks. I have had a few haters, non-believers and doubters in these past couple weeks, and over my life of fitness, as well as in adventures of my own life. You should have heard them when I decided to design, build, fly my own airplane!!!! But HA!!! The proof is in my hanger!!!! The song starts at about 1:30 if you just want to jump......

Okay now isn't he the coolest guy ever??

Hey Team!

Hope you're all having a fab day! Yoga is on the menu for me today, but I'm not sure if I'll do it. As crazy as this sounds, one of my toes on my right foot is in excruciating pain. Like searing, make you cry and swear all at the same time pain. I have no idea what I did to it, but if I sit down for a while and go to walk, the pain with the first couple of steps makes me want to barf! Go figure! So, I have to take my boy to Karate in a bit and I'll see how things go when I get home. I didn't bump it, drop anything on it--have no idea why it's sore, so we'll see. I HATE going to doctors, so I hope it just goes away.

And, here's my rant for the day!

I bought this video studio stuff, and I have to say I am super frustrated here. The background is white, but looks grey. Sam-you're a photographer right?? Any tips? I was trying to do some chroma key work with it too, but in every video I come out with a blue outline around myself. Very frustrating.

Okay I'm off to Karate. I'll be back later! HiYA!

W4D2 - P90X3: Dynamix

Nice relaxing workout.

Coach...
It really comes down to your lighting. A white background (bg) can be totally white, or almost black, depending on where/how the lighting is set up. A brightly, evenly lit white bg is going to be pure white (if the light source is balanced). The further away you move the light away, or turn it down, the bg will become grey (even black). In your video, it looks like you are just using one light on the bg. Where the light is focused, it is white, but as it falls off, the bg starts to darken. Two lights, one on either side would work better. For chroma work, you need to have the bg as evenly lit as possible. It doesn't have to be brightly lit, just even. You want it to appear to be the same color all over. Then you want as much distance between you and the bg to prevent bleed back onto you. Also, you want the screen/bg to be as smooth & wrinkle free as possible. Wrinkles will cause shadows, making it hard to key them out without painstaking work using garbage mats.

Hope this helps.

Awesome, thanks! I had 2 lights going, but I must not have set them up right. I'll keep practicing and see where it takes me. And yeah, the frustrating part about the green backdrop is the wrinkles on the backdrop but I have to take it down after I use it all the time and it gets wrinkled up again. I'll keep practicing though!

Good job Tracy! And I know what you mean about the cold weather eh. Can't WAIT for spring eh! And just think of where you'll be in 60 days--progress wise! Keep it up!

Hey Team!

So, here's a recipe for you, but I want you to take a look at it and tell me if your healthy self would make/eat this?? I'm just totally curious. What are your thoughts about this recipe? emoticon

Have fun!

Zarno

~ Baked Sweet and Sour Chicken ~

The chicken coating:
3-4 boneless chicken breasts
salt + pepper
1 cup cornstarch
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup canola oil

The sweet and sour sauce:

3/4 cup sugar
4 tbs ketchup
1/2 cup distilled white vinegar
1 tbs soy sauce
1 tsp garlic salt

Start by preheating your oven to 325 degrees. Rinse your chicken breasts in water and then cut into cubes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Dip chicken into the cornstarch to coat then dip into the eggs. Heat your 1/4 cup oil in a large skillet and cook your chicken until browned but not cooked through. Place the chicken in a 9x13 greased baking dish. Mix all of your sweet and sour sauce ingredients in a bowl with a whisk and then pour evenly over the chicken. Bake for one hour and during the baking process you will need to turn the chicken every 15 minutes.

p90x plyo last night. I like that one. Plyo power without as much intense cardio. I continue to modify this workout to maek it work for me. adding in squats where they make sense instead of just twisiting and such.

T25 Speed 1.0 completed this morning. Rhythm was a little better with up and overs this time. I treat Speed 1.0 days like a recovery day though. It's definitely still my least favorite so far in T25.

I've decided to only take the maltodextrin after intense weight training though. So, not after plyo, plus I'm not going to take as much of it either. The whole point is to quickly spike my blood sugar immediately after a workout for a very brief period. I don't weigh alot, so I don't think I need a full serving.

Looks good overall...

The one thing I would change is the canola oil to something like rice bran oil. The other thing I would be mindful of is the ketchup. Be sure and use a brand that doesn't contain HFCS (high fructose corn syrup, which 99% of the major brands do).

The photo reminds me of the Mandarin Orange Chicken we get at Trader Joe's on occasion. It is kind of one of our guilty pleasures.

Hell all!! Happy Hump Day!!! Was gonna run outside this morning and was all ready and went out the door and it had started snowing!!! UHG!!! SOoooooo.......did 5K/3m inside this morning instead. Did it in 27 minutes and just totally enjoyed myself!! I tried doing something really easy to see what kind of pace it gave me.......I ran 2:30 walked :15 for the whole 3 miles and ended up with a pace of 9:00/m. A whole lot better than I thought it would be. I was expecting more around 11 or more. So that made me happy as well. And with that strategy I didn't even get breathing hard!! HR stayed below 80% and so only got 300 calories burned. Was doing a bit about 3/10ths of a mile per run session.

Is your gym quite large i can't imagine running laps around the small hall we have but i have seen them on TV with indoor running tracks?
Had to laugh when you said about the snow - being in Wales i'm very used to running in the rain, i hate running in snow if it's compacted and slippy on the ground, but just falling or on brand new snow is kinda magical (we don't get much compared to your guys though)

Coach - not sure about that recipe, i'd probably just dry fry the chicken then bake it in the sauce, it's better than alot of sweet and sour recipies i've seen and loads better than a jar of sauce or a takeaway.

Hey guys,

My name's Calvin, 24 year old and I'm from the UK, I've just started the Insanity programme...again after having to stop last year on week 7! Just completed the 4th day today, Pure Cardio Tomorrow!

The legs were aching after the first two days but are gradually getting better! I'm actually looking forward to the work outs and not dreading them...yet! Haha!

I've planned all my meals and I've been sticking to them strictly. My main aim is to get my body fat percentage down and burn off this belly fat, I know it won't happen over night and a lot of work has to be put into it! I was told to buy almonds and peanut butter because it has good fats in it which helps you? Is this true? How many times a week and how much of this should I eat?

Any information and tips would be a great help so thanks - I'm still trying to get my head around what food to eat other than chicken, fish and veg! haha!

Thanks guys!

Welcome & congratulations on restarting the program.

Fat can be a tricky area. While peanut butter and almonds do contain good fat, even that can be over done. I would suggest going with almonds over peanut butter. I have a love/hate relationship with peanut butter... I love the stuff. A couple of months ago, I would dip a spoon into the jar about 2-3 times per night. Needless to say, my fat consumption was way too much. I've stopped myself and now only have it (a tablespoon) once or twice a week.

I have almonds just about every day, but in limited quantities. On my 'heavy' days, I'll have 14 nuts, but lately I've just been having 7. Every other day or so, I'll have 1/2 cup of almond milk with my post workout drink.

It's been a while since I've done Insanity exclusively, but if I remember, fat is only like 20%-30% of your daily calorie intake (if I'm wrong, somebody please correct me). It doesn't take long for that to add up.

You want to eat good fats, but keep an eye on your daily intake of it.

30 minutes of cardio. Very much like Insanity. Put in as much intensity as you want. I can tell this will be one of my favs. Some of the moves were changeling, like Plank Walkers (hold plank & move in the direction Tony calls) & Plank Circles (hold plank and circle in direction Tony calls). The hardest was saved for last... Donkey Kicks (start in squat, kick both feet up, land on one foot & cross the other foot in front. Repeat on other side).

I'm beginning to see why Ab Ripper was not included in the base program... It is not needed! When I was done, my abs were red, like I had dragged them across a carpet.

Hey Team!

Hope you all had a great day! Life was good here in Zarnoville! My foot felt way better today so I did the yoga workout. I would always skip this workout when I did the old P90X routine, but I actually quite like this one. Felt good, as always.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the recipe. I always love trying new recipes, and this one caught my eye. I had made a recipe similar to it years ago, but the sugar content was out of control. I wonder if one could cut down the sugar in this one or at least replace it with a bit of honey or agave. The nice thing about recipes is that we can always tinker with them and tweak them to our liking eh.

Well, I'm going to get the old video studio back up tomorrow, so if I get the lighting right I'll make another video for you guys! Plus I dyed my hair tonight so I can show it off, haha!

Tomorrow is a busy day so I will definitely have to get up early and get my workout in. I hate getting up early. I must be a suck or something b/c I hate it. Oh well, it's gotta be done eh! emoticon

Very good advice. The thing with nuts is that they're like chips. We can eat a ton of them in a short amount of time without realizing how much we've consumed.

Some other good fats include things like avocado, coconut oil/butter, black olives. A good book to read is called "It Starts with Food" by Dallas and Melissa Hartwig. It outlines how foods impact our bodies and lists some good ideas for healthy fats as well as gives some good tips on meal planning.

The Heinz corporation is one of the leading offenders of using HFCS in their products.

We have been told that HFCS is just the same as sugar, and our body doesn't know the difference. This is simply not true. Natural sugars are taken into the intestines, processed/converted, where HFCS bypass the intestine and go directly to the liver and triggers lipogenesis (the production of fats like triglycerides and cholesterol).

One of the more fun things it does is...

High doses of free fructose have been proven to literally punch holes in the intestinal lining, allowing nasty byproducts of toxic gut bacteria and partially digested food proteins to enter your blood stream and trigger the inflammation that we know is at the root of obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, dementia and accelerated aging.

True, pharmacologic doses of any kind of sugar are harmful, but the biochemistry of different kinds of sugar and their respective effects on absorption, appetite and metabolism are different.

Cane sugar and the industrially produced, euphemistically named "corn sugar" are not biochemically or physiologically the same.

HFCS often contains toxic levels of mercury because of chlor-alkali products used in its manufacturing.

Not to mention, the corn used to produce HFCS come from GMO crops.

Dangers of HFCS

Consume whatever you wish, but I'll choose to keep my intestines intact, mercury levels at bay and my cholesterol levels down, thank you. Honey is the sweetener for me, and if I'm in a pinch, cane sugar.

Hi all......It's almost Friday!!! Another in school 3m/5k run. This one at a 9:30 pace. I'm working on keeping my cadence fairly high. Studies have been done, elite long distance runners have been watched for years and it has been concluded that there are very few elite long distance runners that have a cadence of less than 180/min. This fairly quick cadence helps to shorten the stride length and prevent over striding which has a TONNE of negative impacts on the runner. Things such as causing injuries to knees, quads, hip flexors, lower back, shin splints, and in general, a loss of a lot of wasted energy. So after all the studies they have found that the magic number is somewhere at 180 or so and above. It is interesting to note that most olympic 100 meter runners have a cadence of over 270!!! Crazy!! Anyway so I have been monitoring my cadence and this morning tried to keep it at or above 180. I finally got the my new HR monitor/GPS/Running watch that was a doubly returned gift from Santa!! I ended up with a Garmin Forerunner 220 and so far I love it!!! It has a built in accelerometer to measure distance, pace and cadence indoors. Anyway, so this morning's run was good. I kept my cadence up pretty good. This watch automatically uploads the runs/workouts to Garmin's site for a very well done analysis afterwards. Here is a photo of the cadence summary. Not the low spikes.....those are looking at the HRM, head scratches, drinking water, toweling off etc. The blue is 175-185 and purple is 185+. I'm quite happy with my cadence. Now I need to slightly increase my stride length to quicken my pace a bit.

Chrissi - YES.....Chrissi you do inspire me, even if you feel like you are plodding along!!! As for the snow here, it snowing nice and softly with temp just under freezing, but the snow had covered up all the hidden ice sections and I didn't want to run on fresh snow over un-see-able ice!!! And my gym is unfortunately not one of those indoor tracks. It is fairly small and could become very monotonous!!! It takes 24 laps to the mile!!!!! Now that is quite small!!! It's nice to now have a watch that can keep track of my indoor distance and pace. I just need some time to get it calibrated

Coach - In my search for knowledge and info and guidance on my new found enjoyment of running I have purchased several books and perused the online info to death!!! I've seen a couple videos of Jeff Galloway online and he would be an interesting guy to meet. I have one book by his along with books from Luke Humphry & the Hanson Brothers, David Whitsett, Matt Fitzgerald, and Tom Holland. I am encouraged by all these athlete authors in helping me see that a marathon is truly doable!! I have read a large part of a 3 yr long blog by a guy who has followed the Galloway training and it has been very interesting!! Anyway, regardless of finishing times, I am enjoying myself and am determined to keep it that way and not get caught up in the competition and end up pushing it toooo hard and get injured!!

Calvin = Welcome aboard!!! It's great to have you here and to see that you already know the importance of nutrition in the life of fitness and health. They DO say, "Abs are made in the kitchen." The sooner we know that and then live by it, the sooner the abs will become visible!! Still my goal as well!!!

Paxx - 1 mile = 24 laps emoticon you are now officially my hero i really don't think i could do that. And i don't blame you for aborting the outdoor run if it was icy that is not safe at all.

So last night we ran 6.3 miles and this morning i did Max Plyo. Sam Heinz Ketchup all the way (except for HP brown sauce on bacon sarnies)

John

-Sam

Thanks for the advice, I'll give the peanut butter a miss! I've been pitting 5 almonds mixed into my weetabix for breakfast every day after a work out. They taste amazing so not picking on them during the day is tough! Haha!

I'll get my head around the whole fat intake saga, I guess it's just a learning curve to begin with and you'll know more as you go along?

W4D4 - P90X3: Pilates X

Joseph Pilates... fitness genius, or sadistic bastard. I haven't decided which he was... Maybe a little of both.

Talk about getting out of your comfort zone. Pilates focuses on your core, but doing so in an unconventional manner. All the moves were difficult, but became more so as the workout progressed. Spelling the alphabet with your extended legs was actually one of the more fun moves. The last, The Pretzel was a killer in terms of being difficult to do. As the name implies, you are pretty much bent into one.

Right after the workout, my core didn't feel like it got worked too much, but as I sit here typing, that feeling is starting to change and my entire core, front to back, top to bottom is becoming tighter.

It will take me a few times doing this workout to become comfortable with the moves. It will actually be one of the workouts I look forward to.

I like this!

Hey Team!

Hope you all had a fab day! Today was my long work day so I got up early and did the CHallenge workout. I suck at pull ups, but I put a stool under the bar and still feel like I get a good burn. Felt a wee bit stronger than last time, but by the end my arms were useless haha.

And I have to say, I generally hate getting up earlier, but I think I'll actually get up a wee bit earlier tomorrow too so I have time to cut all my veggies for the day and make some protein bars. I know this will help my diet in the long run. I was thinking of all you hard core early risers as I was trudging down to the basement this morning, haha!

Sam: That workout sounds hard core! (pardon the pun haha). So I have a question for you. One of my team members who isn't on the thread isn't liking the program so much. Doesn't find it terribly challenging. (she's still in the first block). Would you say block 2 is tougher/better? Just curious. She really liked T25 cardio wise.

Cynt: I can't wait for you to start pump--I haven't tried it so I'll be totally curious to see what you think of it!

Chrissi: Well done with those workouts! All your running is making me want to get out there again! Oh and I took a picture of our walk home from school today. I'll post it at the bottom.

Paxx: Ohhh Garmins...they're wonderful eh. I have an old one that I take out on runs with me, although it doesn't have the indoor goodies. I actually met Jeff Galloway before he spoke years ago, and strangely enough he had a giant 2 litre jug of pepsi that he was drinking like an addict all day. Kind of weird actually haha.

R-Dub: Good job with that workout--and I sure hope you're feeling better soon. There seem to be a few nasty flu bugs floating around these days. Take care!

Zarno

I haven't started Block 2 yet. Next week. In my opinion, X3 will not be a cardio program like T25 or Insanity. I was questioning the intensity of Block one (still am on some level), until I started to understand the goal of the program. I believe the primary goal is to improve your balance, which in turn will strengthen your core. The other weight moves are just icing on the cake, if you will. If the intensity is not feeling like it is enough, go faster whenever you can. You don't have to stick with Tony & the crew. I do think that Block 2 will see an increase in intensity. Accelerator is pretty darn close to Insanity. CVX, if done correctly, with intensity is another good one.

If she can do all of the moves in Agility X without touching a toe/foot to the floor (for instance), then go faster with the entire workout.

It has looked to me, following a couple of other X3 threads, that if someone was having problems/difficulty doing the moves in a workout, they would say they didn't like it, as if giving them justification to not do it anymore. That was the issue with X2. It took a while to get even halfway good at the moves, and people didn't have the patience.

I'd say, just give it time, try not to judge or compare it with other programs.

I will add that I am doing the doubles schedule, so that in itself increases the intensity. Still, I should be able to make assessments of the individual workouts.

Hi!
My name is Eve and I would like to join your group. I'm 32 from Québec, Canada. My first language is French so I will probably make a lot of mistakes and weird sentences! I have a 5 months old daughter and I want to get back into the shape I was before I got pregnant.

I completed a round of Insanity in January 2012 and after that I did some P90X and Asylum but I didn't complete those programs. I also love running and I did several 5K and a 10K in 2012.

I started a P90X and Insanity hybrid on January 2nd and I completed 3 weeks of it. I gained some strenght and cardio back and today I decided to start a round of Insanity instead of the hybrid. I don't know why, but I've never been able to do more than a month and a half of P90X. I really like Insanity better (must be Shaun T!).

So here's my accountability for today:

Day 1 Fit test
Pretty pleased about my results. I compared them to the first fit test I did in 2012 and I did better this time on most of the moves. I'm not that out of shape after all!

Coach, I love the videos!

I will try to post here everyday, but I find it sometimes difficult to write in English (especially after a hard workout!). So most of my posts will probably be shorter than this one!

Good night!

Don't worry about your English or mistakes...... It is MUCH better than my high school French that I might remember after 30+ years!!!! So exited that you are here!!!

Insanity is awesome!!! It kicks your Butt and makes you wonder if you're gonna be able to pick yourself up off the floor at the end!!! I too have done a Insanity/P90X hybrid. As I really love strength training, I have done P90X 6 times and end up mixing in Insanity cardio because Tony's cardio isn't even close to hard enough!!! But right now I have caught the running bug and am putting together a program of Marathon training mixed with P90X strength training. I am LOVING the running right now!!! It's really strange for me to be able to say 'love' and 'run' in the same sentence!! emoticon

Hi all. So glad Friday is here. Been a busy week. Got another 3m/5k circular oval in today. A bit over 9 min/mile. It's been a fun week. Knees, calves, hip flexors, shin splints, back all feel great. No pains anywhere. After 2 weeks of 6 days a week running that makes me happy!!!!emoticon

Cynt - I spent a winter in oklahoma and a skiff of snow hit while I was there and it shut down the whole state!!!! I built a snowman and put it on the hood of my car and drove around town. A state trooper pulled me over and after looking at my driver's license he chuckled and said, "I see you're from Canada and so can drive WAY better in this stuff than I can. However, everyone else here is an accident waiting to happen in this stuff and will be distracted by the snowman on your car. Would you please remove it so as to not to cause any further possible accidents? Thanks so much." I laughed and said 'Sure' It was kinda funny!!!

Enjoy your 'Ice' day!!!

Coach Lighting is looking good!!!! And love the hair color!!!! Way to get up and hit the 'cave' early!!! Might make you a believer yet!!!

Interesting development from the physically fit Nay-Sayer co-worker yesterday. He came to my office and started some small talk and then saw my books on running sitting on my desk and asked me what I was up to. I showed him my books and then lightly touched on my running plan that is formulating and a bit about my running in the last couple weeks, to which he surprised me and totally had my back!! He was "If you had to run a Half next week, you could totally do it!" Then asked me what runs I was looking at doing and was "Those will be awesome and you'll do great!" Then gave me some good sound advise, from his personal injury experience, as to how to train and avoid doing the mistakes he made which gave him injury after injury. I was sooooooo surprised!! Not sure what has made the turn around, but I enjoyed a face to face conversation with someone that has some experience and gave me a bit of support. Not sure what to expect next conversation. emoticon

Well, Everyone have an AWESOME Friday!!! Push Play today. Bring it hard!!! Play Hard. Laugh Lots!!

Hey Paxx!

Congratulations on starting your Marathon training! I really admire everyone who commits to such a program and runs that mythic distance! I also love running now but I used to hate it! When I first started running, I was running too fast, like I was in a competition all the time. I was exhausted at the end of each run and I didn't like it very much. I read a book that helped me a lot and I learned to run at the right pace when I'm training. So now I really enjoy it and I feel great and free at the end of my runs. I can't wait to run my first 5K of the season (probably in April or May, when it's warmer). I will start running on my threadmill very soon (there's no way I'm running outside when it's -25C!) but I want to see how my body reacts to the 1st two weeks of Insanity before I add some running to my program.

Keep pushing play and keep running!

This is a pretty telling post from Steve Edwards about X3... Note the second paragraph.

I'm pretty certain you wouldn't lose fitness in a full round of X3. There's enough variety and new things that you're still going to have an adaptation period and gain fitness in some areas. So overall, no matter who you are, you're going to get additional fitness benefits.

That does not mean it's the absolute best way you can train. It's probably not. I think you'd get more adaptation by mixing the X system around a bit, using workouts from X and X2 on days when you have more time. The categories are pretty simple and go like this.

As stated, Yogas match, as does Pilates.

Mobility, Dynamix, X Stretch are similar

Weight training also stays a constant, as so the "cardio" style workouts.

Then you have the full body "synergistic" workouts that are less about adding weight and more about body balance.

Finally, you have the Complex and PAP workouts in X2 and 3 that should be done at the end of most programs to integration strength into movements.

Now just plug them into the schedule rotation of your choice.

Voila!

Just like swimming, but wetter...

Really starting to get the hang of the moves, and that is letting me bring more intensity. Endurance felt stronger tonight. Even though I am not getting a sustained high heart rate, it regularly shoots up higher than my max doing Insanity. Lower back is just a little sore, but I know that is from Pilates last night and will remedy itself in a day or two.

Welcome to the group! Yay another fellow Canadian! Well done with that workout too! And it's great to have another runner in the group too! Nothing beats that floating feeling that a good run can bring eh. And I'm actually kind of pumped that French is your first language--as I'm heading to France next September with my Dad and sister, so maybe you can help me learn some of the language! I'd like to learn some to be able to get around as well as some Polish as we're also heading to Krakow Poland for a few days. My dad is 76 so we're going to do a WWII tour and also see Vimy Ridge and Auschwitz.

Sam: Well done with that Agility. I know what you mean about getting better and being able to increase the intensity eh. I've never been quick on my feet so this is really working me. And I agree with Tony too--good court shoes are a must! Good post by Steve Edwards too. Oh and also, thanks for your take on the intensity of the program. It's interesting how different people feel about different programs. I don't find this program terribly intense, yet I can see a difference in my physique already and had the same experience with P90X, so overall I'm happy with it.

R-Dub: Great job with that Agility! We're getting better and stronger each time we do this eh!

I know Insanity and the other BeachBody Programs including my team here will help me get it together again. Everyone continue to push play!

Alina

Yay! Welcome back! Glad to hear that you're doing better! And don't worry, now that you're getting more active and watching your diet you'll be able to get those pounds off. Keep checking in with us and we'll get you there! When is your wedding?

Paxx: Yay! I'm so glad your 'naysayer' came around. I bet you have really impressed him with your commitment and work ethic. Most people get grand ideas in their heads and never follow through, so the fact that you are making goals, doing the research and the work has probably caught his attention. I'll post that stuff about running tomorrow, although it may not be new info now that you've done some research already!

Cynt: Do you get freezing rain and that kind of thing often down there? And yeah, those kinds of conditions can be more treacherous that snow and cold weather. Glad you stayed safe. Can't wait to hear your review of pump!

Oh and hey, check this article out at this link. Tonight in Winnipeg a man who is 105 year old is breaking a swimming racing record!!

Here is the link to the video: http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/multimedia/video/local/at-age-105-jaring-timmerman-swims-for-a-world-record-in-winnipeg-241776761.html

Okay guys, I'm off to do a few things before bed. Tomorrow is an early day--gotta get my race work done and a bunch of other stuff.

Have a good night everyone!

Zarno

While I still have some reservations about the program, I am starting to see some of the benefits from doing balance moves. My opinion of Block 1 is that of a beginning level geared towards those new to working out, although it has some harder workouts. Block 2 remains a question. I guess I'll get a better handle on it in the coming weeks.

Steve Edwards post is certainly telling, saying that it would be better suited to be included in a hybrid made me take notice, coming from one of the top BB people. To be honest, after reading that, I wanted to start on my next hybrid, but I'll give it another month and see how it goes.

Hi All,

Shock Plyo and Core Attack this morning. After browsing through a few pump dvds yesterday, I may do the flow workout later today. I love yoga.

Chrissi, I love the punching and kicking in Combat and like Insanity will always be one of my go to workouts. I think you will enjoy it.

Coach, good job on getting up early to do your workout. You better watch out, it could become a habit. As for your question about icy conditions we don't get it that often in Houston. In fact they had so many accidents and stranded people yesterday. They don't keep de-icying agents here because we rarely get anything like this. A dusting of snow will (2-3 inches) shut us down. We have a fit over temps that drop below 60 emoticon.

Paxx, I like your story. When I moved to Houston in 2001, I thought people were wimps when whining about the weather here and I lived in California for four years before moving to Houston. Now I am one those wimpsemoticon

I have been bad at posting but good about getting the workouts in. Today it was cardio power and resistance. Looks like I need to dial back the eating! I have one month to go until vacation and don't want to bring my belly along!

Sounds like you are all staying on track. Have a great weekend!

Saturday's 'long' run in the books. Went out at the start of daylight and embarked on what I had planned on being a 6-7 mile run. It turned into a nice easy run with me setting my pace by doing a 3 min run, 30 second walk and it took me a couple miles to really get loosened up and get into a nice easy rhythm. When I got to the 6 mile mark I was feeling really relaxed and was sooooo enjoying the run that I chose to extend the run and ended up doing a 10 miler this morning.

The route I ended up dong had the 1st 3.5 miles a steady uphill and on gravel. Then hit pavement for the next 4.5 miles and then the last 2 miles was on gravel, uphill and really quite icy roads and so I took it easier. Ended up with a 11 min/mile pace and feeling great at the end. Kept my HR down below 80% and the breathing was easy. So, I enjoyed my run......Can't wait for next week's. Did a total of 30 miles this past week and looking forward to really starting my training with some upper body strength training mixed in again and the running a well!!!

Chrissi - You GO GIRL!!! "Ran 6.3 miles this morning....." You are awesome and make it sound no big deal!!!

Eve - Thanks for the encouragement and positive support!!! It means tonnes coming from another runner!!! We are lucky here in that the weather has been pretty mild for the most part. It was above 0 deg run today and sun shining. The crazy thing is we will get dumped on about once every couple weeks and make things seem like a pretty hard winter is here and then the temps rise and the snow melts again and we enjoy our Chinook here in the slopes of the southern Alberta Rockies. The Chinook winds come are pacific air masses that come off the Rockies and blow like crazy......I mean we had 128 km winds here a weeks ago!!!!........ but it raises the temps sometimes into the double digits above 0. And so the snow melts......no running outside on those days though!!!!emoticon But today was absolutely gorgeous!!!! And so I'm Smiling!!! emoticonemoticonemoticonemoticon

You are kicking BUTT on Insanity!!!! You ROCK!!!!

Sam, Cynt & Coach - glad you liked my snowman story. It was pretty funny to see even the State Trooper chuckling!!!

Alina - Good to have see you back!!!! You're gonna kick some BUTT and get to where you want to be before the big day comes!!!! We are here to cheer you on.......AND......you Do know that YOU ARE a ROCK STAR, right??? Because you are!!! You're here and determined!!!

Tracy - I think that is the biggest hurdle for all of us!!! The eating sabotages me waaayyyyy toooooo often!!! You can do it though. The 1st step is knowing that you need to change something, and you're already there!!!! That's awesome!!!

Well, got a grandson anxious to ride the quad around in the snow!!! So off I'm going to have some fun!!!!

Have a great weekend everyone!!! Press Play. Play Hard!!! And Laugh Lots!!!

Insanity Day 3: CPR
Good workout. I struggle with the floor work in all Insanity videos. I modify some of the moves and it works fine. For example, I do as many moving push-ups as I can (about 4) and I get on my knees the do regular push-ups after that. And the floor "sprints"...more like floor "light jog"!

Coach: That's a nice trip you have planned with your dad and sister! It will be my pleasure to help you learn useful words in French. Here's one sentence you'll probably need when you go to a french restaurant: J'aimerais avoir un verre de vin (I would like a glass of wine)! I saw on one of your posts that you're from Winnipeg. I lived there for a year about 10 years ago and it was a lot of fun (except for the winter temperature which was cold and WINDY!) I was working in a French Immersion school in Lorette and my job was to help kids learn French in a fun way!

All: Does anyone ever tried the 10 minutes trainer program? What did you think of it? I am thinking about buying it for my boyfriend. He has neck problems and cannot run or do a workout that has a lot of jumping (like Insanity). And I don't think P90X is a good idea for his first workout program because it's more than an hour long and I don't think he will commit to that for now. I saw a video about 10 minutes trainer and they were using a band and it was attached to the door. Is the band and the attach included in the package? Is it possible to use dumbells instead or is the program using bands only? Thanks!

Eve - i modify alot especially the floor moves think i'm a bit stronger than when i started though

Paxx - way to go 10 miles fantastic

Yesterday the running got scary - it was windy when we set out and began to rain quite soon into the run and the wind picked up strength fast strong enough for the gusts to start to nearly stop us. Only a short run so we weren't too bothered and were finding it quite fun fighting the wind and it was going to be behind us on the way home (which was also mainly downhill). On the way home the rain turned a bit heavier but then as we started out along the most exposed part of the route a storm hit hard, hail thunder and lightning it was so scarey the intensity. A couple of friends were caught in it as well and they said they were terrified too. Also found out later that a walker had been rescued (we saw the helicopter go over) as he'd been very close to a lightning strike and it had paralysed his legs. Still i'd much rather be out living than slowly killing myself as a couch potato.

Coach, I've been seeing on the boards the last few days, more people "feeling unmotivated" and wanting to quit, because they have been doing a program for 2-3 weeks and have not seen any changes. It really made me think about your video. People want quick fixes, plain & simple. When they don't get them, they want to throw their hands up in the air and quit. Sad, really.

Evening folks

Its been a while since I poisted on here and I must admit the workouts have droped off completely over the last few days.

I am still having family issues at my parents house and it has really got me down to the point where I just dont seem to be bothered, or have no energy (just been sapped out of me) at the moment.

So in combination of the above and the really heavy workload and long days I am expecting over the coming week I have made the decision to scrap the last two weeks of this Insanity round (basically this week and next) and hopefuly redo them once I get through next week.

I feel like I am letting the side down a bit but I just have to get through this little hump.

This is no excuse for any of you lot to stop pushing though so keep going and push harder.

My legs and shoulders are on fire! That "recovery" is tough and it's my least favorite workout in month one. Hi all. Nice rest day yesterday. 5 mile run this morning. Not outside though. Mores snow and -15 in the dark. So around and around the gym. I have a problem in that I really want to work in strength training and give myself breaks from running, but every morning I just want to run!! It makes me a little depressed to think of not running for the day. Not sure how to make this work. As much as I DO love strength training I can't get that to feel more satisfying than doing another run. Sooooo I gotta work on that somehow.

John - I am soooooo sorry you're going through such a tough time. Hang in there my friend and know that 'this too shall pass' and then you can re-focus and be ready to give it your all!! Know that we are here and have your back. AND......you're in my thoughts and prayers my friend!!

Eve - I haven't had anything to do with 10 minute trainer but my son did Power Half Hour for a bit. This is a 30 minute per day truly mini-P90X. Very similar workouts, just shorter and not quite so intense and I think that there are only 5 different workouts total, for 5 days a week for 2 months or so. He quite liked it compared to P90X because of the 1/2 hr a day thing.

I find that my early version of Insanity was made up of alot of modified moves!!! But things get better as we get stronger, eh? It's not that the workout gets easier, it's tat our ability to do it becomes stronger!! Way to give all you got!!!

Chrissi - Wow......I don't have the dedication to run in rain like that!!!! I admire you AND I agree that "i'd much rather be out living than slowly killing myself as a couch potato." WeLL SAID!!!!

Sam - You remind me of world's atomic clock........steady, dependable and always ticking!!! emoticon You just keep bringing it day after day after day!!! You ROCK!!

R-dub - "While others are sleeping we are working. While others are eating we are burning calories. While others are blowing up we are trimming up. We are the few, the proud, the fit." Very well articulated my friend!!! THAT is what makes the difference!!!! Well said!!!

Becca - I have to laugh a bit!!! I'm a pretty slow runner!! I have always been the kind that competes to be as good as the next guy......push-ups, chin-ups, sit-ups, plain old cardio, but I am slow........but at least I know it!! emoticon I do bring it everyday as far as Paxx is concerned, but I will never be a placed runner and that is all good with me!!! BUT....YOU ROCK MY FRIEND!!! With all that is going on in your life, you are pushing play and taking time for yourself everyday and that is awesome!!! Thanks for the inspiration!!!

Well, gotta get at another day!! Had a great weekend with my grandkids!!! We played hard, wrestled alot and just enjoyed being with each other!!! It was all good!!!

Push Play today!!! Play Hard!!! Make someone Laugh Today!!!

Last few days of Combat. This morning was my least favorite workout Combat 60 Live. I can honestly say that I worked my ass off this morning emoticon. What a way to start the work week!

Who motivates, who revs me up to do better? My HUBBY! The pride he has when I hear him telling someone about my workouts makes me want to do my best.

We had great weather yesterday, in the 70's. So far this morning, we started out in the 60's and it goes down hill from there. By tonight we are going to get rain and the temp is suppose to drop to 20's. So we are back to the ice again and maybe with a little snow. By Friday we will be back to the low 70's. This is Houston weather at it's finest emoticon

I have 3 sources or motivation.

1) is this group right here!!! You all help me to see that everyone struggles and can overcome!!! That inspires and makes accountable.

2) The Nay Sayers!!! Go ahead.....tell me I Can't!!!! I DARE YOU!!! This is a massive motivation for me!!! "I don't need your permission to do what I want to do!!"

3) Myself!!! Once set upon a path I have a tremendous drive to go, do and finish!! It is in my core!!

That's my motivation in a nutshell!! Thanks for the question of the day Coach!!

Ugh.. I've been absurdly sick since Wednesday. I've managed to get all of my workouts in though besides Chest Shoulders and Tris on Friday afternoon.

Man.. That double day with lower focus and ab intervals for T25 is a good one. I'm really liking lower focus and P90x plyo. Building large leg muscles = burning more fat faster. This morning was T25 total body circuit, nailed that one. Tonight is P90X Chest and Back, then Ab ripper X. I've got about a week and a half to go for the Alpha phase of T25, and all my weight and pullup reps continue to increase during my p90x workouts.

Definitely need more weight... Soon. Select Tech 552s seem more appealing to me every day.

Who motivates me? well, myself.. and my family. If you're not self motivated, you won't push yourself. period.

Cool eh! What's on your mind? Haha!

Hey Team!

Well, it's been a busy day here in Zarnoville. Took my boy to the dentist and he did awesome! The dentist has been a source of stress for us in the past, but he is slowly getting better at going and being comfortable with the whole affair. He even allowed them to take x-rays, which is pretty cool.

So, I got up this morning and did The Warrior workout. Good one. Although I definitely need new shoes. I have good running shoes, but as Tony says himself, this workout requires different shoes--definitely not running shoes, so I think I'll hit the stores on the weekend and get some good court shoes. My right foot/toes are sore so it's time to make the switch.

And thanks to everyone who shared who their inspiration is. It's good to be able to draw inspiration from some source, whether it's from someone else, or from within. Draw your energy from something or someone and let it push you farther along the journey. Well done guys!

John: I'm so sorry to hear that you've been so down and out--and having troubles with your family. That stuff is so stressful, so know that we're all here for you when you need us. We're just an email away too. Hang in there, my friend!

R-Dub: Well done with those push ups and pull ups! You're making progress each time you do this, so keep up the great work! And thanks so much for the kind words too. I am the blessed one--blessed to have you and everyone here on this journey with me. You guys are the motivators for me.

Tracy: Great job with that Pure Cardio! It's a tough workout eh! And yeah, the diet is a challenge eh. I find in the winter I struggle in a way just b/c it's so cold and sometimes the last thing I want is a cold salad. Are you still eating primarily paleo?

AP1916: Sorry to hear that you've been under the weather--hope you're feeling better soon! And yep, sounds like you're definitely going to need those select tech's eh! Glad to hear you're enjoying the plyo etc.

Pax: Love your sources of motivation! And I love the fact that the nay'sayers really push you--as they can often have the opposite effect on people. And that is sooo cool that you're loving the running so much! You're awesome!

Cynt: That is so cool that your hubby motivates you and tells others about how great you're doing. That's awesome! And that is some crazy weather you're getting eh! In Canada it's understandable to get cold weather--but down there it just seems strange. I might have to mail you a toque and a pair of mitts haha! emoticon And thanks for the kind words on the hair color. It's not quite as red in real life, but I still like it.

Eve: Yep, I think we've all swore at Shaun T a few times over the past year haha!! That's how you know you had a good workout I think!! And that is sooo cool that you lived in Wpg for a year. I'll have to get to work on my French. My hubby and I were batting ideas around about where we'd like to have a holiday next year and the idea of going to Montreal came up. He loves the car races...Formula one?? And I love the history. I've heard it's beautiful there, so I'll have to get saving!

Becca; Great job for getting those workouts in! We know you're busy, so just check in when you can and we'll be here cheering you on, every step of the way!

Okay guys, well I've got some emails to send before the bedtime circus hits. Hope you all have a great night and I'll be back tomorrow!

W5D1- P90X3: Eccentric Upper/Accelerator

I think I'm going to love & dread Block 2...

Judging by the first workout, doing dual workouts (doubles schedule), is really stepping it up this block. Eccentric Upper is very similar to a P90X workout, but you concentrate on the negative portion, with a slow count of 3 on the way down, and then back up as fast as you can. This is true with lifting weights as well as pushups & pullups (this workout covers the entire upper body). I had to back off on what I was lifting in P90X by at least 5 lbs., because of the slower negatives. It really makes the weight seem heavier.

Accelerator is no slouch by itself, and then when done right after EU, you really know you have done something. You may not be as winded as you would doing an Insanity workout, but at the end of these workouts, my muscles were so tired & drained that the last move (Donkey Kicks) was more of a comedy skit than a X3 move!

Total calorie burn for me was very comparable to an Insanity/Asylum workout.

Insanity Day 5: Pure cardio

Go slow but keep going! That's what I kept telling myself during the workout. Boy it's a tough one. Last workout of week 1 tomorrow yeah!

My dad is a great inspiration for me. He is 65 and still runs 5K, 10K, half-marathons and marathons. And he is fast! We participated in a few runs together in 2012 and I did my first 10K run with him (he crossed the finish line way ahead of me but we were on the same starting line so that was cool)

And you guys also motivate me. There are not a lot of people around me that workout almost everyday, most of them workout 2-3 times a week so it's nice to chat with you and see that I'm not alone.

See you tomorrow!

Hi All,
Power HIIT andnInner Warrior this morning. Today is an Ice day . It's not suppose to be as bad as they thought so the office will open at 11. I normally take the bus, I hate just sitting in traffic, the busses are not running though. They dont want people to be stuck, if they cant get you back. I have to decide if I want to drive. If I dont I can get another workout in emoticon.

Eve, that is so cool to be able to do races with your Dad!

John, hang in there.

I'm off to do some things around the house. Have a good day!

@Sam: haha. I'm having a hard time trying to imagine how a move called "donkey kicks" isn't a comedy skit anyway. lol. I've enjoyed reading your X3 reviews. considering giving it a shot next. You were totally right about me trying to compare things to insanity by the way. I don't know why I was always expecting to feel the cardio exhaustion from a workout that wasn't based on cardio. lol.. Calorie burns are similar, the workouts are just different.

Got through P90X Chest and Back / Ab Ripper X last night, and T25 Alpha Speed 1.0 this morning. I almost... ALMOST had my first complete workout of chest and back without using the chair. I only used it one time during the 2nd round of close overhands. So, from the beginning of my p90X / insanity hybrid until now (2 weeks into my T25 / P90x hybrid), I've gone from doing 8 unassisted pullups (and then using the chair the rest of the time) to 121 unassisted pull ups.

Made it through ab ripper X, for the first time, no breaks during fifer scissors. I think back strength is really helping me there as well.

Speed 1.0 was the same.. as soon as my heart rate starts climbing, lets stop and bring it back down. Month 1 insanity warmups for 25 minutes.

W4D2 - P90x3 CVX: Hey good morning all. Today is the day I got a breakthrough. It took three weeks of preparation and it finally came this workout. I feel totally pumped and as strong as a horse. Its been a while since my heart rate hit a high like this. At one point during the workout I hit the 170+ zone and I wasn't doing Insanity Month 2. CVX is a brand new way to do cardio if you ask me. I used 7.5-10 lbs the entire workout. Most of it was done with 10lbs, but if I felt like quitting, I would drop the 10 and pick up the 7.5's and keep pushing. Oh my goodness. GREAT WORKOUT!!!

I burned 429 calories doing this workout. This is the highest yet and I believe it was mainly because I am getting more of the routine down and I can concentrate more on form and quality of exercises rather than quantity. Now I wonder how I am going to feel later after I cool down and have time for the muscles to realize what I did to them. They are pretty much shocked like me I am sure, but reality will kick in sooner or later. LOL...

Hey have a great day gang and keep pushing play, your change is coming one workout at a time. Be blessed.

Decide. Commit. Succeed.

R-dub - glad X3 is finally clicking for you - your commitment is starting to pay off

Eve - I agree with Cynt it must be great running with your Dad, hope i'm still going at his age.

AP - 121 pull ups i'm in awe

Coach - i think your son has to be my inspiration for being so brave at the dentist. I get completely stressed out when i have to go (especially as they seem to have a high turnover here and just as i get used to one they leave) i can just about let them look in my mouth i totally freaked at the x-ray.

Didn't log on yesterday as i was having quite a bad day but all looking much better today. Actually enjoyed recovery today it flew by. Did manage a short run last night and it took me to my 100 miles in January target.emoticon

Man......... I have been fighting, and finally given into a very very deep chest cold. emoticon It is noooo fun, although my voice is about 2 octaves lower than normal and so that is a bit humorous!! My life long health nemesis has flared up again. Although I haven't had any issues or even signs of asthma over the last 2 years, this cold has brought all that back and I am fighting the what-used-to-be annual visit to the hospital with pneumonia or bronchitis that had plagued me for over 20 years running!! So, I saw the doc and got some antibiotics and am giving myself a day or so to let them kick in.

Soooooo..............no running or workout today.....and it's killing me because it is an absolute gorgeous day. I would love to get in a 5 miler or so!!!!

Ap1916 - that is totally Rock my friend!!! That is a huge improvement!!!

John - Keep hangin in there my friend. Still thinking of you and sending positive energy your way!!!

Eve - That is soooo cool to run with your dad!!! My dad was one of those naturally very fit and muscular guys and a memory of him was one of my 'aha' moments!!! He was taken from us a bit over 17 years ago now, and I still think of him most days and he lends me great strength! You are a fortunate and blessed gal to get to share your love of fitness with you dad!!!

Chrissi - Hang in there girl!!! Glad that today is looking a bit brighter!!!

Cynt - Enjoy the FROST day!!!! emoticon

Becca Girl - just thinking of you. Keep bringing all that energy and love of life!!! YOu rock!!!

Sam - Love your commentary and updates on P90X3!! Sounds like and interesting program.

R-dub - I always look forward to the poster of the day from you!!! They are always so inspiring and motivating. Along with your comments that are always so full of energy and committment!!! Thanks my friend. ANd hang in there!!! You will become stronger as you keep doing these X3 workouts and soon you will be kicking it and while maybe not loving it.....you will enjoy the feelings of kicking some BUTT!!!!

Coach - What would we all do without you, eh? YOU ROCK!!! Thanks for all you bring and give!!!

Well, everyone take care. Pres Play. Play Hard. and Laugh Lots!!!

oh gosh.. absolutely not. That's 121 total for the whole chest and back workout. The first time I tried chest and back a little over 2 months ago, I only did 8 unassisted wide fronts, and then had to use the chair for everything I did for the remainder of the workout. Last night I did 121 unassisted pullups total before I had to switch to the chair. Meaning I was a good 3/4 of the way through thet workout by the time I hit that mark. It went like this. Wide fronts round 1 - 22. reverse grip chin ups round 1 - 25, close grip overhand round 1 - 18. Wide front round 2 - 22. reverse grip chin ups round 2 - 21. Close overhand round 2 - 13 (ok time for the chair).

Straight back at you Paxx! - Think you need your recovery as well.

I am feeling better and more positive each day so it wont be long and I got great pick me up today.

I had to go to the hospital for another pre-op assessment (just got to finish off what they did last time) and you get sent for an ECG and then do various blood pressure checks and lung function / capacity check etc.

I was actually asked if I was an ATHLETE by the nurse!!!emoticon

Resting heart rate of 51 bpm (average is between 62-75 for a reasonably healthy person) and my lung function (basically where you have to blow hard and fast into a machine to check capacity and force etc.) measured 235 with anything over 200 being very good with blood pressure absolutley spot on as well. emoticon

No finer tonic needed.

I will be back!!

That's got to make you feel good! Next time, blow 250! emoticon

I've often wondered what my stress test results would be now that I've started this... but not enough to shell out a couple of hundred to find out!

Update: I take that back... At one of our local hospitals, it would cost $4,800. Cheapest is $1,250. Sheesh!

LOVE THIS!

Hey Team!

Hope you're having a great great day! Life is good here in Zarnoville!

Got up this morning and cranked out a Total Synergistics workout. It was supposed to be a rest day but I missed working out on Friday so I felt the need to work today. Felt really good, AND I was actually able to get my arse off the floor during the plough moves so I'm pretty pumped about that! Yahoo!! Although I think I got some rug burn on my elbows doing it, haha!!

And, as promised, here is

Zarno's RANT FOR THE DAY!

Hope you like it! I don't know that this little lecture applies to you guys, but there may be some lurkers out there, and if anything, it's food for thought.

Back later!! emoticon

W5D2 - P90X3: Triometrics/Dynamix

Triometrics is basically plyometrics with 3 levels of intensity. Each move is one minute long, and the intensity gets bumped up every 20 seconds. First level is not bad. Second level can sometimes be tough. Third level can sometimes be nuts. As usual, there is a strong balance aspect to this workout.

It wasn't as tough as Eccentric Upper, but still a challenging workout.

Insanity Day 6: PCC
Week one is in the books! I'm gonna enjoy my rest day tomorrow! I love the final stretch of PCC when Shaun says "Don't have your legs too wide, don't have your legs too wide...JOSH!" Makes me laugh every time!

R-dub: So true! The change is coming one workout at a time and I would add "one healthy meal at a time"! Thanks for the inspiration!

Chrissi: 100 miles in January, wow! And you're doing Insanity as well?

Paxx: Sorry to hear that you're not feeling well...I hope your rest day will make you feel better

John: Those numbers don't lie...all your hard work is paying off!

Good good advice eh!

Hey Team!

Happy Tuesday! (I actually just typed Wednesday haha, must be a bit ahead of myself!)

Just got home from karate and only have a few minutes before bedtime, so I'll just type a quick note here. Hope you all had a great day.

I have to say I'm loving P90X3. I know it isn't nearly as intense as Insanity, but the fact that it's only 30 minutes means that I have absolutely no excuse to not get up in the morning and get it done. Life is soooo busy these days that I basically run around like a raped ape all day, and it's just nice to get a full body workout in that works the core so well, in the midst of all the daily chaos. I've also started incorporating a lot of fresh vegetable juice into my diet and that feels really good as well. I really try not to put too much fruit in it, and stick with mainly vegetables and it tastes pretty good! Between the juicer and the vitamix, I can come up with some nice smoothies and juices!

Tomorrow is agility and I know I'll have to take it easy on my feet. It really makes my feet sore so I really do have to hit the store on the weekend to get some different shoes.

Okay, I'm off! I'll get up early tomorrow and post that running info for you guys too, before the craziness begins!

Have a good night everyone!
