Starting Insanity 10/26/09 - Who else?

I just ordered the Insanity work out dvds and we are planning to start it here at work on the 26th. I am happy to have people to workout with in real like but would also like some buddies here in case I end up doing it alone.

I am a little worried since the success stories all talk about people who were once athletic but got out of shape. I have never been really athletic but I have been working out and I am ready to step it up a notch. I am not sure how well I will do with the workouts but I am committed to giving it everything I have for 60 days.

Are you ready to try Insanity with me?

Hi, Lorraine.

I am so glad to find someone (or a work group in this case) who will be starting the same day. I am actually expecting my package today according to UPS tracking. When Insanity came out a couple of months ago, I was already abut five weeks into P90X Plus. I had just completed Round 1 of P90X and wanted to keep it going. In the meantime, I was reading the Insanity message boards just about everyday to better prepare myself for this 60 day challenge.
Before doing P90X, I was taking spinning classes and lifting heavy weights. Naturally, I thought I was in good shape. However, I WAS WRONG. Beachbody has totally opened up my mind to what fitness is really about. Now, I can do things with my body I never thought possible. You can definitely count me in for mutual support. However, don't expect a picture until we are done. 2009 has actually been rebuilding year for me all the way around. From career & relationships to health & fitness, I project 2010 to usher a whole new me since I will be turning 40 in late March. Anyhow, lets keep in touch and hopefully more people will join our bandwagon. If you happened to count the weeks until we are done, you will notice that we should be done around Christmas. So, we could not have picked a better time to start!!!
Take care,
Caesar (Dana Point, CA)

It is great to have others on the same schedule for support! It is going to be a good year for me too, I just turned 40 in July and things are getting better already. I lost 20 pounds so far but I have 30 more to go so lots of opportunity for the Insanity to work. I am doing a few P90X videos while we are waiting to start the Insanity, tonight I am doing the Kenpo so wish me luck. I will let you know how it goes.

Great job on the 20lbs!!

Good luck tonight with Kenpo. Have you completed the 90 days of P90X? I have not, but know many people who have.

Yeah, great job on the 20 lbs.

The one thing I learned from previous Insanity message boards is that we are likely to add a reasonable amount of leg muscle. Now, although our new sexier legs should help facilitate fat loss, the additional muscle weight will also most likely offset the fat weight that we are definitely going to lose. In other words, we need to try not to pay too much attention to the scale as it may be deceiving. Either way, our midsections should shrink considerably along with improved definition all over our bodies. Besides that, it will be awesome for each one of us to call ourselves "Insanity Grads" going into Christmas!!!

Thanks all for the support! The dvds arrived while I was out of town and I am so looking forward to starting on Monday. I have not done the complete P90X but a coworker has the dvds so we are doing them until Monday. I want to do something while I am waiting on Monday to arrive but I don't want to start the Insanity early. We might follow the Insanity with P90X, I checked the dates and we will be done on December 27th, just in time for New Year Eve and we could start P90X in January or start the Insanity again.

I was not going to take measurements but after everything you all said and the other message boards I have been reading, I am going to on Sunday. I still have quite a bit of fat to lose so I expect to end at a lower weight but the added muscle will be great too. I am glad I lost the first 20 already, a good starting point for this program.

Did you all get your dvds yet?

Hi all. I just ordered my copy too. I am in the boat of, once upon a time i was semi athletic, . I was a cheerleader in high-school. Then i had a baby, then two more. Anyway, I wont be evasive. I got chubby. I am a stay at home mom; whose once slender, 5' 4" 125 pound frame has went up 50 pounds. I need this program to work, and I need some great buddies. I have been trying to find someone to call me and give me a 5 am eastern time wake up call on Verizon cells. But to no avail. My mom keeps telling me she will wake me up. And for those of you with little kids, you know that if you dont do it in the AM BEFORE they are awake, it wont happen. I am fat, tired, depressed, and cannot wait to get out of my slump. But i NEED you all, I need help:-). So thanks, and i will be starting with you all
Thanks for inviting me. So, how do we go about adding each other as exercise buddies. I am so new to this. I look forward to the achy muscles, sweat, tears, and results.

I am very excited to say that yesterday I came home to my Insanity program. Yippee!! And now the fear and shear terror sets in...I quickly tore open the package to read through the Nutrition guide and all other information. The food is not so bad, but wow it sure seems like I will be eating all day long. I know that the program is set to get your body burning through the food you take in.

dmcmillan - I feel like you took the words out of my mouth "I am fat, tired, depressed, and cannot wait to get out of my slump." Somehow in the last few years I have let everything get away from me. Last Decemeber I moved 45 minutes away from my work, so that means that I have to get up earlier and it takes me longer to get home, so working out has become a thing of the past. It is my goal to be up and beginning my workout at 5am. This is the only way I will get the workout in during the day. Problem is I am not a morning person, so it will be a challenge just to get out of bed. I know in the long run i will defintiely feel better...but I am sure that the next month will very difficult with the exercise and adding in day light savings time in Novemberwill make it that much harder.

I am new to using a site like this so I look forward to beginning this journey with all of you. I can't wait to get started.

I believe that each and everyone of you are going to do great. As long as you do your personal best, the results will certainly follow. In fact, you will not have to wait until the end of the program to feel better. That will come after the first week alone. I was preparing to join another long-standing thread, but I would love for this one to match the comraderie as the others. So, none of you dare drop or give in to that little voice telling you, "it's too hard." This endeavour will pay off and the next two months may very well be the turning point in one, some or all of our lives where a better, stronger and/or healthier life begins.

Hi All,

My Insanity is expected to arrive tomorrow so I am in for the 26th start date. We seem to have an epidemic of entering our 40's together on this thread! I'm excited to start the program and will be taking measurements on Sunday too. I will also be taking a beginning photo but definitely won't be posting it emoticon

I am most interested in strengthening my core. I hope this program helps in that area. Good Luck to all and please don't bail...I don't plan on being able to keep up 100% but I will be doing what I am able and capable.

I havent taken a photo of myself yet. Although seing myself au naturel in the mirror the other day prompted me to step on the scale. I had bene treading along for over two years at 168, now, I am suddenly 175. I also have Polycistic ovaries, which makes me even more depressed. My hormones are so messed up. I will post my photo more than likely, but only because I know that you all wont judge me.

Maybella,
I know what you mean about not finding the time to do the workout. I tell myself everyday I can do it while they nap, but nap time turns into me napping most of the time. I am not in my 40's, I am 25, and i feel like i am 50. I cant even keep up with my mom who is 49.
I am so glad we are building this group. We all need it.

Welcome Nikki and Grace! It is great to have this group and I know we will be able to encourage each other to stick with it. I am going to take a before photo but I might wait to post it until I have an after one too. I do plan on posting my fit test scores, if for no other reason than to make you all feel better about yours. emoticon

I plan to do the workout as it is suggested because I have nothing else going on at this time. A trainer sounds great and I for one am happy you can join us a few days a week. You will have to let us know how it goes, I might want to do it that way come January.

I am on weight watchers and I picked some meals from the Insanity nutrition guide and they agree on the amount I should eat so that was encouraging. I am planning to use the suggestions in the book with the WW program because I have had success so far. The only difference is I am not going to be focusing on the pounds as my measure of success, I will be looking at the inches!

Have a great weekend everyone, I can't wait until Monday!

loinga: Thanks for starting the thread. I am really excited to learn and share with the rest of this group.

Grace: That is awesome. So happy to have you part of the team and ready for the 26th! That is pretty cool to have some 40-somethings in our thread. Maybe we can compare some 80's music sometime. Ha! In regards to your "before" pictures, don't even sweat posting those. I believe the "before" pictures are more important for your own personal reference. When you have completed the program, then you will be able to better appreciate what you have accomplished when comparing to the "after" pics. If you feel okay about sharing at the end of the year, then feel free. Otherwise, the most important thing is that you gave what you could each workout. As you will see (or what you may already know), it will be a day-to-day thing that can EASILY be affected by diet, sleep and/or mood. No matter what, you will be burning calories, building muscles and turning your body into a machine!!! As for your core, that is where you are likely going to see the most change. In fact, even the most fit post-P90X grads saw little change in their weight but additional inches off their waist when they thought they had already peaked. Either way, the fat weight will disappear if you have it to lose. Lastly, you have already won half the battle by simply saying, "I will be doing what I am able and capable."

Dmcmillan: When I first started Beachbody back in April, I also traded in the wine bottle for a juicer. My intent was to both help strengthen my liver for more effective fat/protein/carb processing and maximum nutrition to fuel my workouts and speed recovery. As I continued to educate myself on the variety of organic veggies and what they were providing me, I began to experience positive changes both physical and mental that I was initially not expecting. To date, my energy is off the charts, my sugar (and wine) cravings almost non-existent and my optimism has not been this high since I went away to USC and joined a fraternity. Two months after I started juicing, I bought my Mom a juicer and advised her on what she should start consuming. At the time, she was suffering severe depression (work and family related), excess weight and poor digestion to name a few. She is in her fourth month of daily juicing now and I am actually shocked about the transformation. Her weight, blood pressure, digestion and most importantly her mental health are better than I can even remember. Two days ago, she even bought Chalean Extreme! I am not saying that a juicer is the answer to everything, but I am a firm believer in the power of the sound nutrition it can provide. Now, I could write a whole book to you here on what I have learned (through testimony, books, daily internet research, experience, etc.), but all of it can be quite overwhelming. Even more, nutrition includes all the other important stuff like whole grains, fruits, lean meats and so on. However, I will suggest that daily juicing of a variety of organic greens, roots (radish, beets, carrots, etc.) and fish oil (Omegas) serve as a great catalyst and would do amazing things for you or anyone who doesn't already. It is really the body that heals itself (hormone balance included). Nutrional support through this medium just help give your bodily organs what they need either directly or indirectly to succesfully accomplish this. One reason I say indirectly is because of the benefits that daily detoxification can do for your body. My Dad would argue that he could get the same from eating a big salad everyday. My counter is that even if he did, his body would excrete a lot of it (whole) whereas the powerful juice of live enzymes, minerals and vitamins are over 90% absorbed within half an hour by the villi in your intestines. What is even more exciting is that the benefits keep on coming for months and years later. Anyhow, if just for the sake of Insanity, an eight to ten ounce juice with whey protein powder following each workout would be advised anyway. If you are interested, I can suggest some web-sites for more information or you can simply punch in "juicing," "juicing benefits," or any other similar keyword combination in a search engine to research yourself. However, if you already know all this, then I will feel really stupid after you respond. Otherwise, I hope my own experiences may offer something to help you on your upcoming journey. As I have only been this pro-active with my nutrition for close to seven months, I am really looking forward to where I will be on the one year anniversary of when I started this path. Like I mentioned, the benefits keep on coming.

Take care,
Caesar

LagNiguelGuy - Interesting info on the how juicing has made major changes in your life. I don't know too much about it and will certainly look into that further.

Everyone - I am very excited to have all of you as a support team. I think having to be somewhat accountable to you all during this process will certainly help me stay the course. I don't think I will post my before photo yet, but maybe later as I begin to see the results I will not be so reluctant. I will however, share my fit test results on Monday. Don't be shocked when they are pathetic..LOL. But at least it is the first step in the right direction.

Everyone enjoy the weekend!

Darn! I was all excited to do the Fit Test today and then I realized it starts tomorrow. Good luck to everyone tomorrow!.

As for the juicing...I have done it every day since I got my Juicer for Christmas last year. I love everything about it and couldn't live without it. I pretty much throw everything in it (celery, carrots, radishes, beet, spinach, kale, romaine lettuce, cucumber, apple, and broccoli). The apple and carrots sweeten it up. If you buy one of those BLENDER or GNC drink bottles, throw in some ice and shake it up...it is almost like having dessert. ALSO, if I plan on making any type of spaghetti sauce I will juice any of the above (MINUS the cukes and apple...hold off on putting these items in) and toss the pulp into the sauce. It's double duty for nutrients...you get both the soluble and insoluble...and it doesn't really alter the taste of the sauce.
