Starting November 2nd -- for a 3rd Round!! -- Getting Lean for 2010!

Hi, all!!

Join me as I start a 3rd round of Chalean. This will be the "Extremyist" one yet!!!

I started Chalean Extreme in January of 2009 and did two consecutive 90-day rounds (I skipped the Lean for Life phase in between). During the program, I lost 11% body fat and 5 pounds to get down to 112 pounds!!! (Not bad for a 41-year-old mom of 3!!)

I took a few weeks off, and then DH and I started Insanity (I MUST have been insane). I got injured about 1/2-way through, so I stopped and have been trying to get better ever since. I've thrown in a few days here and there of the Chalean workout, and I realized that 1) I love this workout, and 2) I lost a lot of strength switching to something else.

I love lifting weights, and I'm so looking forward to a 3rd round of this program. We're starting on November 2nd and ending near the end of January -- roughly around my 42nd birthday. Some of us have done P90X and/or Insanity, so the plan is, during the 2nd and/or third months, is to throw in a P90X or Insanity workout in for the cardio days. Don't worry if you just want to stick with Chalean. The more the merrier.

Will you join us??

I have tried to get her to post too, but she just does not get into doing the sharing thing online - she leaves all that to me. I share with her what others are saying and doing and show her the results others are getting, etc,.

We got our delivery of CE yesterday!!!! I started doing some reading and I think I am gonna like this one. The importance and stressing of technique is one thing I like. It can only help in any other program that we do in the future. Now, just need to finish up this Insanity and we will be ready to go on November 2!!!

Hey I'll join ya. I tried CE before but bailed for Insanity after a month and not losing (I didn't give it enough time huh). Insanity is great and I have one week left. I was thinking of starting CE with month 2 but I guess I'll stick with you guys. I definitely will add in a little more cardio. I lost 5 pounds with Insanity but that's about it. I do appreciate your honesty (i.e. 11% body fat and 5 pounds) the commercials show people who lost 40 to 60% of their body fat but it's not saying that they probably did "several" rounds. I am excited that I was consistent with Insanity and with the meal plan (I was consistent with CE but not the nutrition) so I should do much better this time. I look forward to joining you in a week emoticon

Oh, I'm 40, a mom of 2 (age 3 and 6) and weigh 130 (would love to get to 120 and tone up)

Welcome, Kimmykc! (Just Kimmy??)

The more the merrier.

Glad to have you on board. Yes, one month may not have been enough with Chalean. I didn't lose ANY weight the first month of the program. I simply lost the body fat. In fact, I think I only lost 2 pounds by the end of month 2, with the remaining weight by the end of the third.

I think it all depends on how much weight you have to lose, really. You don't seem like you have a lot to lose, but I know this program can really get you into shape. I know you'll see some results.

So, welcome!!!

Oh I forgot to mention that I'm 5'1. So I'm just at the high end of normal for my BMI 24.7 - LOL (don't like being neighbors to the overweight BMI).
Looking forward to joining you all on 11/2.

Hi guys,
I'm going to jump in too! I actually did my first CE workout this morning, so I'll be a bit ahead, but would love to have an active group to bounce things off of. I just finished 90 days of P90x, and am looking for a little more lean and a little more weight lost. I'm 5'8.75" and 150 pounds. I dropped 9.4% body fat (from to 22.8% to 14.4%), which I was extremely excited about, and not a single pound (-.4 pounds actually LOL). I have 3 year old and a 22 month old. I missed 2 workouts total on P90x, so I'm really excited that this is going to only be 5 days at 30-40 min. Would be really open to advice as to what to "add in" to CE workouts? It looks like maybe P90x abs and plyo may be good choices? I am really looking to tone my butt/thighs/abs. Looking forward to it all!

I would love to join too. Have started several of the programs but have not completed one since P90, which was about 4 years ago. Had health issue that went undiagnosed and derailed my fitness attempts. Now ready to get in shape. I am marking my calendar. Need help with accountability. It is always the getting started part that is the worst.

Sarah, I'm excited about the shorter workouts but will add in daily an ab workout or a 20 minute cardio. Karen, I know what you mean about accountability emoticon

Hi, Sarah and Karen. Welcome!

So, from how it sounds, it seems like only Kimmy (besides me?) has done any Chalean at all, right? (Except that Sarah has started?)

OK - as far as adding in any workouts, I don't think that you have to supplement this program with ANY additional workouts to see results. That is, you don't have to add 20 minutes of cardio on a particular day or anything. In fact, that might be counter productive as far as strength gain.

That said, I think a few of the group MIGHT substitute a few of the Chalean cardio workouts with a P90X or Insanity cardio workout. So -- nothing additional, just substituting. Make sense? That's only because I know some of the group just finished Insanity, and so the cardio level of that program is way above Chalean. However, you get a GREAT cardio workout with Chalean, so DON'T feel like you need to do this at all. And, I really feel like you will get the best results by sticking as close to the program as possible.

Second - sorry if this message sounds a little spacey disjointed! I've had the flu for the past week, and I really feel like I'm moving in a fog. So, I'm so glad I have another week to recover before the official start!! emoticon

Okay - is anyone interested in doing a little "homework" for Chalean?

Please watch the Healthy Eats & Kitchen Makeover DVD for this program. Here's a challenge for you. In the DVD, Chalean talks about clearing off a shelf at eye-level in the refridgerator. On that shelf, this is where you should have the snacks and stuff your family SHOULD be grabbing. I did this for my first go round, and this shelf has sort of stuck with us. I bought some low-fat string cheese and, in a small tupperware-type bowl, I separated each cheese stick and have them stacked standing up in the container. When I would buy berries (in season), I washed and put them on this shelf. (They went fast - my 10-year-old would always eat them). I boil eggs and put them on this shelf, too.

In the pantry, Chalean talks about bagging your snacks in individual packages. This worked for us, too, for a while. This was more for my husband. I don't snack on pretzels, etc -- I really follow the Chalean guide and most of the snacks included veggies, which were in the fridge -- so try this, too. I didn't keep this up, since it was just my DH doing it. He would go in and grab 3 or 4 bags or more, so I got tired of doing this for him. But, if this helps your family, please try this.

Read the Fat Burning Food Guide and start getting familiar with the recipes. Mine stays in my kitchen next to my knives. So, when I go in to the kitchen in the morning for breakfast, I grab the guide to see what I'm going to make. So, get familiar with this so you can plan your shopping accordingly.

OK - this is all the homework for now. I'll have something else in a couple of days for anyone who is interested.

Hi,

I'm using this week to finish up my profile, take the pictures, review the meal plan, etc. Hope to have my CE materials in time to start with you on Nov. 2. I just ordered over the weekend.

I have an overall goal of losing 30 pounds but want to get healthier overall. I think this is the program for me. I'm committing to regular daily exercise which is new to me. I've been pretty sporadic in the past. I will be getting up an hour early each day (5 am).

Thanks Coachchi for the feedback on workout substitutions/add ins. Coming off of P90x it just seems like the workouts are so short! But I'm sure I'll happily acclimate to that extra 30 min of sleep every day, LOL. I've only done the first burn workout, and it seemed a bit easy to me, so I need to push myself harder tomorrow. P90x does two sets of everything, I need to max out the only set in CE I learned. Now, having said that, I am a bit sore today, so obviously must have done something. I was going to do P90x Pylo tonight, but am going to use your advise (not to add in), as an excuse to not do it. I'll go through this first week exactly according to the schedule, and then go from there.

Hello,

I'm hoping I can join! The group seems like a great mix. I am 36, 5'7 and 140. I am about 8 lbs up from my lean state. I did about 8 weeks of P90x this summer then dropped out so I could train for a triathlon. I then got in a bicycle accident late August. I'm OK except my hand is messed up and most likely will have a surgery end of year or early next year. So I'm going to TRY Chalene and see if i can lift weights. I did do some light weights the last two nights. I have really gained weight since my accident so I need to get back to lifting. I did pushups tonight and man have I lost strength.

So I will hop and hopefully be able to go along with you. I will most likely do running along with the workout as I want to keep my endurance up.

P.S.
I am a mother of 2 (6 & 9)

Hee, hee! Anything to not have to do as much! emoticon

But, seriously. It's true. You really won't have to do as much. Just do what you said - make sure you are lifting enough to MAX out at 10-12 reps (1st month), and you won't have to worry about much more!

That said - I wanted to let everyone know what my experience was the first go round with Chalean. From what I read back then, this is similar to what a lot of people experienced.

Month One - Started at 117-118 pounds and 18.8% bodyfat. At the end of this month, I was STILL at the same weight. However, I had dropped to 16.7% bodyfat (hence, losing 11% bodyfat overall).

Month Two - Still at 16.7% bodyfat but dropped 2 pounds by the end of this month - down to 115.

Month Three- Still at 16.7% bodyfat and dropped down to 112 pounds. Could NOT believe I got that low. I am 5'3". I think for women, that percent bodyfat is pretty good. And, I hadn't been at 112 since before my first child (I have three kids - ages 5-10).

So - get prepared to see results, but GRADUALLY. I think that's the best way, anyway, because then they are more likely to stick.

Please note - I think a few people -- those who didn't really need to lose much weight -- even gained a pound the first month. Don't worry! You are building muscle mass. Just make sure to take your bodyfat percentage, too, when doing your measurements.

Speaking of which -- Day 1 measurements were 36 1/8 hips and 26 2/8 waist. By the end of 90 days, I was down to 35.5 hips and 25 waist.

So, as long as you are following the food guide and doing the workouts as Chalene tells you to (maxing out - going HEAVY as you can), you WILL lose!!

So how would adding in cardio be counterproductive or rather what does it do to your body? I guess for me, I only did one month of CE before and lost nothing - that said, I didn't follow the food part as I should have so that might have been my downfall - ya think emoticon With insanity I'm following the nutrition guide so I should not have any problems starting back with CE. I guess I just want to burn it off fast emoticon But I'll give it a try without the cardio first.

Hey, Kimmy:

I know what you mean about wanting to see results fast, so it's tempting to add in the cardio.

I guess, because this is a strength program, and if you add in more cardio, especially on the days you are weight training, you are not giving your body a chance to "recover."

Yes - the key is the food. You can do all of the exercise in the world, but unless you follow the eating, you will not see the results you want.
