Alright.. So for over 2 years i have really hit the Beachbody Programs created by Tony Horton. Programs like P90X, X+, Tony’s One on One Series and these programs have been INCREDIBLE. They are very well balanced and combine Cardio, Strength, Flexibility, Balance, and Core excercises. I find it hard to believe there is a better Functional Fitness program out there.. PERIOD!!!

Recently, however, i have suffered an AC Shoulder Separation and have found it difficult to do many of the strength moves ( ie pull ups, push ups, dumb bell presses, etc) . In fact, this injury is 2 months old and has gotten worse due to my stubborness in not wanting to rest it.

IN COMES “INSANITY”

I have made a choice that the new Shaun T workout, INSANITY, which is also a Beachbody product, is the way for me to go the next 60 days. I have made a CHOICE to fully commit to a complete 60 day round of INSANITY and CLEAN NUTRTION. The program is just more fitting to my injury status. It’s got insane cardio and plyometrics along with a small amount of strength in the form of push ups (which my shoulder can handle). I have no doubt that this program can get me results in a short period of time and it is RESULTS that i’m looking for. All i can say is BRING IT!! BRING THE INSANITY!! I REFUSE to let a shoulder injury completely deter me from staying course with my fitness and nutrition and refuse to use it as an excuse to go backwards. So INSANITY IT IS!!!

You are welcome to join my on the next 60 days as I report my weekly workout progress. Join in by starting Insanity with me, or commit yourself to a program of your own. Either way, let’s do this TOGETHER!!!

TIME TO ROCK!!!

Good Morning INSANE People!!! The sun is shining bright here in Ohio and I am DEFINATELY ALL JACKED UP about this round of INSANITY!!! It's been a while for me since i've felt this Excited to do a ROUND. I think it's so easy to get so many workout videos and then to just mix and match and hybrid this and that and before you know it your routine can be somewhat "lost". That's the point i got to this fall, doing whatever workout i wanted whenever i wanted. What we need to remember is that these programs are put together in certain orders for a REASON.. they are put together by people who KNOW AND UNDERSTAND WHAT THE BODY NEEDS TO GET RESULTS!!! This past summer I was talking to Helen Heynan, aka Canadiangirl, aka P90X Infomercial, and we were talking about how our BEST RESULTS have come when we have seriously just FOLLOWED ONE SPECIFIC PROGRAM AND DONE IT COVER TO COVER!!

Well, that's what I'm doing with INSANITY.. this is gonna be COVER TO COVER. I did my fit test, the results are in my basement so I will get those and post them here in a Bit. and I have finished Day 2 PLYO CARDIO CIRCUIT emoticon I am also doing my nutrition at 2,000 calories per day, trying to get 5 meals at 350-400 calories + a Recovery Drink. Here is my intake from Day 2

Day 2 Intake Monday 11-02-09

Meal 1: 2/3 cup oats, 1/4 cup sugar free syrup, 1 banana (350)

Meal 2: 1 scoop shakeology, 1 scoop chocolate whey, 1 tbsp peanut butter (370)

Meal 3: 1 Whole grain tortilla, 3 oz trukey breast, 1 sliced tomatoe, 1/2 cup FF Cottage Cheese (350)

Meal 4: 1 P90X protein Bar, 1 scoop Whey w. water (390)

Meal 5: 2 cups Ground Turkey Chili (400)

Misc: 2 scoops Recovery Drink *(220), 1 TBSP Sugar Free Creamer (30)

Total Calories: 2110

Workout: Insanity Plyo Cardio Circuit

SWARM!!!

Brother, I am SO GLAD TO SEE YOU AGAIN!! I really got a lot out of being on your P90X board!! I am excited to go along for the ride with you on this Insanity journey.

I will tell you that I have already completed 1 round of Insanity, and am currently doing a hybrid round of X/Insanity/running in preparation for a Bridge Run I am going to try in December!!

I need to do MUCH BETTER on my nutrition, and I know you are super keen on that yourself, thus you can help me too.

Sorry to hear about your shoulder injury, hope it gets better soon.

I actually did Plyo Cardio Circuit myself this morning!! Killer workout.

Great to see you again, and I'll check in here daily my friend!!

You were and still are ON FIYAH!!

Tommy:

As promised, here are the results of my Fit Tests:

Day 1/Day 15:

1. Switch Kicks: 60/62
2. Power Jacks: 61/64
3. Power Knees: 92/103
4. Power Jumps: 44/60
5. Globe Jumps: 10/13
6. Suicide Jumps: 12/16
7. Push-Up Jacks: 25/34
8. Low Plank Oblique: 42/46

As for my story, started out with TMT a little over a year ago. Completed a round of P90X in May and a round of Chalean Extreme this summer. Got my Insanity package a couple of months ago and was just experimenting with the workouts. Really allowed the intensity of the workouts to psych me out. I was ready to quit by the time I went out to the garage and push play. So I decided it was time to truly commit to this craziness and here I am today.

My weight loss isn't as significant as yours. I have only lost 50 lbs, and that was mainly through switching to a low carb lifestyle. So about this time last year, I wasn't fat. Just not in shape. That's when I started working out like a maniac. Have had my own share of struggles along the way but have to say it's been an amazing journey so far.

Hope your shoulder holds up for you.

Cheers,

Darren

Good morning Swarm!!

Hope you are going to Dig Deep today and bring thunder with your Insanity workout!!

After Insanity yesterday, I was supposed to run today. I decided to get on the elliptical instead (it's dark, wet,and creepy at 430am) so I did a "homemade" workout where I'd do 5 minutes on the elliptical (changing the resistance every 1 minute) then I'd jump off and do a 3 minute circuit of the following exercises: Push ups (P90X style- regular, wide, decline, diamond all with push up bars); Pull ups (P90X style- alternating hand position each time), Power jumps+ Pulse squats, Shoulder press with dumbbells, and bicep curls.

After the 3 minute circuit, I'd jump right back on the elliptical and start again!! I had everything all set up beside each other, so it was really easy, quick transitions.

#'s for today's workout: 41 minutes, 144 Avg HR, 594 cals burned, 33.20 minutes in zone!!

Tomorrow is back to Insanity!! Can't wait...I think I'm addicted to Insanity b/e even when I have a good workout with another form of exercise, I feel like I didn't get the "killer" workout like I do from Insanity!! Anyway, got a meeting with Shaun T in the morning at 430...

Swarm- how is the shoulder holding up? How are you liking Insanity? Which is your favorite workout from Month 1??

FELLAS!!! SO GREAT TO SEE YOU HERE!! emoticon jhahah.. man, I was starting to feel "alone"

Krav: Old Friend!! Bro, yeah, our paths have crossed and i have no doubt that we can work to encourage, motivate, and support each other through all of life's struggles. Whether it be workouts, nutrition, or just plain ole LIFE... let's ROCK THE LIFE FRIGGIN HOUSE DOWN!!!!

Darren: Brother, 50 lbs lost and getting RIPPED is a VERY SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENT!!! That would be like me saying that MY weight loss wasn't as significant as Dallas's Weight loss because I lost 110 and he lost 190.. honestly, it DOESN'T MATTER.. the fact is that i respect ANYONE who has taken the Bull by the horns and said "TO HELL WITH THIS, I CAN'T LIVE THIS WAY" There are SO many people in YOUR BOAT that identify with YOU. I have a good friend (Jeff) who was at my class reunion. He honestly is around 40-50 lbs overweight and something about hanging out with me inspired him to say "ok, NOW is the time". Last night he and I met at this local Cardio Kickboxing Class with another classmate who happens to teach group workouts here in town (she rocks, and she now has a sample disc of insanity to try emoticon ) The point is this.. It took just as much for HIM to make the CHOICE.. and watching him workout last night i know he had just as many doubts going through his mind as I did when i first started. YOU are to be commended... because you went PAST the THINKING to the DOING and past the DOING to the REALLY DOING and past the REALLY DOING straight to THIS IS HOW I LIVE!! so ROCK THE HELL ON BROTHER!!!

I gotta tell you and any of the other 75 people who are snooping around on this thread.. I FEEL THE FIRE!!! I think there are many emotional ups and downs and i felt that fire, felt that perfect disciplined nothing is gonna stop me fire for so long and once i got to 7% body fat and RIPPED it was like "NOW WHAT" and for the last 6 months i haven't been terrible but i haven't been "perfect" and "on fire".. WELL, I am FEELING THE FLAMES And honesty getting on here and seeing the two of you JOINING ME just dumped about 10 truck fulls of gasoline on this b*&ch and We are about to bring some EXPLOSION!!!

With that Said Day 8 of Insanity is GONE (yes, i started last week) and the shoulder is feeling a bit better without so much weights/pull ups/push ups etc... not as much tension during sleep with it.. My legs also feel the burn, and the beginning warm up yesterday I struggled mentally but pushed through without stopping.. here is my accountability

TUESDAY 11-3-09

Meal 1: 2/3 cup oats, 1/4 cup sugar free syrup, 1 scoop whey w. water (370)

Meal 2: Recovery Drink (220)

Meal 3: 2 Ground Turkey Burgers (320), 1 arnolds select bun (100), 2 sliced pickles (10), 20 small pretzels (100)

Meal 4: Shakeology, 1 scoop whey (270)

Meal 5: 1 1/2 cups Ground Turkey Chili (300)

Meal 6: Recovery (workout #2) -- (220)

Meal 7: P90X Wildberry Bar (260)

Miscellaneous: 1 tbsp sugar free creamer (30), P90x multivitamins, performance plus, omega 3

Total Calories: 2200

Workouts: Insanity Cardio Power and Resistance (A.m), Cardio Kickboxing Group (p.m)

all in all it was a good solid day, worked out twice because my friend wanted to start somewhere and was invited to this class.. he owns p90x (got it a year ago, has just never used it) and i told him i'd join him and help him anyway i can, even if it means me showing up to this class with him once a week and him coming to NOFC (Northern Ohio Fit Club) once a week... and yeah, if you are in Northern Ohio or near there or have friends that want to join I started NOFC which is on Thursday nights.. you can PM me for details emoticon

actually, some of you may not know who i am.... so i guess i will just "introduce myself" and give you my BB Street creds .. hah..

Tommy Mygrant, lost 112 lbs doing X/X+, men's 30-39 MDB game finalist and $50,000 winner last year, spent a LOT of time on the message boards with my own threads and after the contest things got sooooo crazy, just hundreds of emails, facebook started for me (yeah, that alone is enough to fill my day talking and chatting about X and the company and the opportunity, etc).. I've been honored to represent Beachbody in Washington DC when Congdon asked me to join their cause and use my testimonial, i've also been so honored to appear a few times on QVC live with Tony Horton, who is my good friend and an incredible role model not only in fitness but in life. and YES, that is me on the front of the Website.. it's crazy to just be an everyday small town guy who at one point was just very desperate and wanting to lose weight... it can also be a self identify crisis when you feel like you have to always live up to an "after" picture (totally another topic that i'm glad to discuss)...

The reality is that like many many people who have successfully had amazing transformations there is a HUGE "WHAT NOW" saga that they face.. it's been about weight loss for so long and all of a sudden it is NOT about losing weight.. it's about maintaining a lifestyle and just being active and healthy. With that said i have been 180-185 for the last few months.. not terrible, but not where i was in that "after pic" 9 months ago. In fact, I was 160-165 in that pic.. so I'm about 20 lbs off and fighting to just maintain an active and healthy lifestyle.. I think that SOMEWHERE IN THE MIDDLE is about where i want to be.. 160 was wayyyy to thin for me, i felt weak, i looked good in pics but in person people were worried about me.. and above 180 I feel self conscious and fat and bloated. I spoke with the renowned Mark Briggs and he said "Tommy, pick a 10 lb range and try to live in it.." GREAT ADVICE.. so for ME that range is 170-180 .. so my goal with Insanity is to cut back to 170-175, i started at 184.6 so there, that's MY STORY!!! You can here more about my initial journey and transformation by just clicking my pic on the front of the website, or you can take my name, Tommy Mygrant, and find me on Facebook

ok.. heart on the sleeve right there.. I am READY TO FRIGGIN ROCK!!!

Man I'm so glad to be in touch with you again!! I love it when you are fired up...it gets me fired up. Your energy and enthusiasm are contagious brother. Your passion is genuine and people can tell that, it's what makes you the great example and leader you are. Is the 112 lbs weight loss impressive? Sure, but what continues to motivate people is you!! The effort that you went to (going to the kickboxing class with your friend) is just the type thing that you do for others that shows your fire, willingness to help...it's not just talk, it's action. That's what I love about you brother...you don't ask us to do anything you haven't already done twice!! You are a ROCKSTAR!!

I've got to get my nutrition under control!! I am trying to learn to use my fitness pal(technically challenged), so I can keep up with my calories, protein, carbs, etc.

In my 1st 5 weeks of Insanity (round 1) I didn't lose any weight!! but I went down almost 4% in Body Fat. I do the work, I put blood, sweat and tears into my workouts and really try (check my stats, I post them daily and usually there is some significant calories burned, high HR, etc) yet I've not lost that weight that I'd like to. I'm 5'10", and I vary from 199-202 lbs. I have almost NO BF on my body, except in my gut area, which went down significantly with round 1 of Insanity.

Since then, I've been doing a hybrid and working hard, but my eating is 75% good and clean, but the other 25% kills all my hard work and effort!!

I like your and Mark Briggs idea of finding a 10lb range to live within...

I have a Insanity workout in the morning and I'm jacked up for it!!

Tommy - thanks for inviting me over to this board. It is great to be working out with you with Insanity because your enthusism helps push me harder. To introduce myself, I am a regular over at Swarm's Chalene board and a lurker on his X board. I started my weight loss journey in July 2008, and I am now down seventy pounds. I am currently six pounds from by doctor perscribed goal weight. I probably should have reached that goal a while ago but when I added X to normal workout last Christmas, I really messed up my diet. It wasn't from eating bad but from not being able to determine my calorie burn. I floundered for seven months while doing P90X and Chalene. I got in great shape physically but no real weight loss. It wasn't until I found out about the body bugg and Insanity did I break my plateau. During Insanity, I lost 19 pounds.

I almost wish that Insanity was a three month program like X or Chalene but I don't know if my body could take that intensity that long. I hope that he comes up with a sequel program. Right now, I am in my second round of Chalene Extreme. On MWF, I do the resistance workout, ARX, and one of the first month Insanity workouts. On TTS, I attend a 1.5 hour fit camp.

uark88: welcome friend. I've seen you before over on the Swarm P90X board! Man...congratz on your weight loss and HUGE success in getting in shape and staying in shape...you are a warrior and example for us all!

Got up this morning and knocked out Cardio Power & Resistance!! It was BRUTAL!!! I really pushed hard. No stats...my D@mn watch battery is getting low, so I look down during the warmup and for over 2 minutes, it registered "00" as my HR, then it shot up over 200...got to get the battery replaced. Anyway, stats or not, I pushed hard, was drenched in sweat and didn't want anymore after it was over (that's how I know when I give it my all or not).

Feeling good, eating some Proatmeal here at work and ready for a great day!!

Swarm...where you at brother?? Are you ready to rock the house today with Insanity??

KRAV and UARK: Fellas, i am sooooo humbled by all your kind words man!! the truth is that we are IN THIS FIGHT TOGETHER!!! I've missed these boards and teh friendships created through them. Insanity is the first program where I am truly doing THE PROGRAM and can commit to being here.

Krav: dude... 4% body fat is sooooo low.. i think we sometimes get fixated on the scale that we fail to realize just how far we've come in so many other ways. Think about how much more FIT AND HEALTHY you are NOW!! That alone is an accomplishment to be proud of. The one thing i will say is that usually when weight is just stagnant it comes down to NUTRITION.. I can't emphasise just how important good disciplined clean eating is to RESULTS.. if you want that extra amount of result, the nutrition is where the exra amount of effort has to come from. So seriously, take time to really think about what you want.. if your goal is to maintain then 80-20 eating does that.. but to get results it better be 90-10 or better emoticon

UARK: wow man.. 70 friggin pounds!! hahah.. HOLY COW BROTHER!!! and 19 during 60 days of insanity ALONE?? YOU are a ROCKSTAR my friend!!! LOVE IT.. knowing that you rocked this program will definately help ME stay the course and get it done.. i'm loving it so far and day 11 is COMPLETE!!!

here is my accountability

Hi Swarm, great to see you doing the Insanity workout. As you probably have forgotten, I have been doing 3 rounds of P90X and got amazing result, but I have stopped doing it for 2 months and just doing quick exercises (push ups, pull ups and ABS moves mostly). Because of that, I have gained around 2-4 Lbs from what I achieved from 3 rounds of P90X (this is amazing, usually on other diet or program, people will gain a lot more when they stopped doing their diet or program). Right now, I am on day 5th of Insanity and my legs are very sore. I have to modified the workout schedule because I play badminton 2 times a week. It is a very intense sport and usually when I play, I will play for more than 4-5 hours a day, sometimes 10+ hours including breaks (burned up around 3000 or maybe more calories in total).
I started playing badminton again after finishing my 3rd round of P90X and saw a great improvement in it. Stamina, strength, flexibility, agility all got improved by large amount, but because I was only doing badminton and just a little bit of workout, lately my performance has been degrading. Then I decided that if I want to improve more, I have to start working out again combined with badminton practice. So, right now, I am on my day 5 of Insanity, even for only 5 days, I can already see the improvement in my badminton playing and actually lost the extra Lbs that I gained because of my laziness. Can't wait to see how much improvement can I gain from 60 days of Insanity.

BRING IT!!!

Krav - I appreciate the welcome. What is protomeal? I have seen you mention it before.

Neo - you ain't seen nothing yet. Sean T keeps upping the bar gradually and you don't even realize it is happening except when you change from month one to month 2. Workouts that I struggled with before Insanity are now easy. I can now work on form instead of surviving. I was never able to complete all of the exercises in ARX before Insanity.

Swarm - Insaniacs. I like that. ARe you able to complete the workouts without breaks yet? Even after being a graduate, I still have to take 10-15 second breaks throughout the workout. Not so much to catch my breath but to get rid of the lactic acid build up in my muscles

Cardio circuit tomorrow along with Push 3. After tomorrow's workout, I will be half way through this Chalene rotation. I'm beat and calling it a night.

Tommy:

Thank you for your kind words. Yes, dropping the weight was a huge accomplishment for me. It was an incredible experience. Have to say though that the past year of working hard to be fit has been an even more incredible experience for me. A year ago, I knew I couldn't do P90X, but I wanted to get better muscle tone and to improve my overall fitness. I have been a hard-core tennis player since I was a kid, and I have played every weekend for at least the past 20 years (yes, I'm older than dirt!). So my lower body was always in decent shape. From the waist above, however, has always been a different story.

So in October 2008, I ordered TMT. It looked like something that I could actually do...it was realistic for where I was at. I set up a corner of our garage with matts, hooked up on old pc I had, wrapped the cardio belt attachment to one of the 2x4's on the shelves and started working out. I told a co-worker of mine (who is a fitness fanatic) what I was doing, and she challenged me to do P90X. She had gotten the dvd's but couldn't stay motivated to get through an entire rotation. I reluctantly agreed, and on Jan 4, 2009, we embarked on a journey that has changed my life!

The day I received my P90X package is a day I will remember for the rest of my life. I put my left hand on top of the box, got a Sharpie permanent marker out, and drew an outline of my hand. I then wrote, "...I will do this..." next to the outline of my hand. That was the moment I committed myself to do something about my fitness level. For the first week of P90X, I thought I was going to die. I hadn't done anything that intense in my entire life. But with daily encouragement from my friend at work as well as my on-line buds, I pushed myself like never before. It wasn't always pretty, and it certainly wasn't always perfect, I managed to get through the entire program. I continue to struggle with Yoga and abs--these are my weaknesses.

Once I had completed P90X, I then took on Chalene Extreme, and had a blast with it. I could see even more definition in my arms/shoulders, and I continued to struggle with abs and flexibility! At about that time, Insanity came out! I vividly remember seeing a preview of the program and saying, "...oh HE__ NO....he cannot be serious!" So when it was released, I immediately ordered it!!! As soon as I got Insanity, I started experimenting with the workouts and was truly amazed at how hard they were. This was my first mistake as I allowed the workouts to psych me out. I would start a workout, and give up half way through the warmup because I knew how hard the actual workout would be. I also got fixated on the timer that shows how much time is remaining until the next break! So I went for a couple of months of excitement and disappointment until I figured out what I was doing wrong.

Finally, about three weeks ago, I decided that I needed to adjust my mindset to get through this successfully. It is simply applying the same principles that Tony Horton has preached from day 1..."do your best and forget the rest." This is week three for me, and I am hitting the garage every morning with a sense of purpose and determination. Haven't looked back since.

I was telling some friends at work what I have been doing and have started a weekly Insanity Challenge in our fitness center. For the past month or so, I've been gathering a group of fitness friends to try a different Insanity workout. We've been having a blast, and I have found that having a group of people in the room with you doing the workouts is a great incentive to push yourself to the max. It's a lot harder to take a break when the person next to you is going full throttle.

Day by day, I am seeing some subtle changes to my body. I am feeling so incredible empowered right now. Can't believe I can actually complete some of these workouts. I am feeling like there is nothing I can't do. What an amazing gift from Shawn T. and Beach Body. Not sure where I will end up after this but am definitely enjoying the journey.

Best regards,

Darren

UARK: I am really looking forward to the challenges in Insanity. I really want to improve my physical ability, become faster, lighter, but still powerful and I think Insanity is the workout that I need for that.

Sasuke: Having friends to do workout with you together is very fun. Every time I work out with my friend, I usually able to push harder than when I am working out alone. It is fun to have someone to cheer on to each other because you might be able to do pull ups like Tony Horton do, but your friend can't. So, it is really motivating each other to push even more than they normally do. I did plyoX once with my friend side by side and usually, I would rest a little bit longer than the DVD, but that day, I was able to do the same speed as the DVD.

UARK: I was wondering if you could talk a bit more about your use with the Body Bugg. I bought one when I hit a plateau last year with P90X. I dropped some weight and then nada. "Floundered" if you will. It always showed I was in a defecit but nothing. So I shelved it. I just started wearing it again when I started insanity. I'm beginning to think I'm the "RESULTS NOT TYPICAL PERSON". Any tips or advice? Can you share what kind of calorie burn you average daily and how many you consume?

Thanks,

SWARM

Swarm: just to clarify, I didn't get down to 4% BF! I DROPPED 4% BF during the 1st 5 weeks of Insanity (round 1) but didn't lose 1 lb!! That was the point I was making...nutrition has to play a role in how hard I work out, yet see no difference on the scale!!

uark88:

Uark: Proatmeal is the oatmeal/protein/fruit/nuts recipe used in the Insanity meal plan. It's really good, easy to make, totally filling and full of healthy stuff. I eat it 7 days a week!!! I'm a creature of habit.
